Great video, if you set up vlc to play on secondary display (e.g. hdmi out on laptop), you can hide task bar and use neutral colour. Also you can still use your primary display while video is playing.
You could also dissolve in and out of the video instead of cutting. You could delay a few frames for that transition so you don't see VLC go full screen, or you could just start VLC in full screen before cueing.
To avoid the glitch at the start, I saw one of the vlc preferences was "Start Paused" - could you use the file names to "cue" the video so that it's first frame is full screen and paused and then use the play button to begin playback? If that works, maybe you could bundle that with a macro to set that input to program as well, essentially giving you an auto start like the BM Hyperdeck.
The Desktop flickering up before and after the videos plays bugged me so as a solution I delayed the camera switch=Cheers, Alex command by 500ms and that was long enough to change to the video once it had already started but quick enough so you don’t notice. Same with switching back to the live camera. Delay the camera switch by 500ms.
Good solution. You definitely need to leverage the capabilities of both pieces of software. I'm still looking for something better than VLC. Media Player Classic went out of development in 2017 so I'm skeptical to try it because it probably has a limited life.
I mostly use Windows but I will give it a try. On a quick look I don't see http or OSC controls. It may require another app to send hotkeys to the program. On the Windows side I have started to look at Zoom Player from www.inmatrix.com (Not the Zoom Web Meeting Software). Playoutbee is also an option. It runs on a Raspberry Pi and emulates a Hyperdeck. It accepts more standard file formats, has a web interface, Controllable via OBS and ATEM Software Control, API for custom integrations. gumroad.com/l/playoutbee Possibly a video coming on this.
ok will timetravel to sept 2023. Companion is now 3.1 beta and VLC module is now V2.32. To get that working you have to enable not only in VLC v3 web in main interface but also telnet and remote control. Not sure but also fill the LUA password. 😊
VLC is a fantastic player especially for its zoom and slow motion; most other players only have one or the other feature. BUT when will it ever be able to play 1080p BD movies?
What about playing on a secondary screen? I would think it would be okay to stop at end of play because I keep a black clean desktop on the second monitor.
I can't get this to work on my M1 mac mini to save my life. Totally frustrated because this would be huge for my setup. Getting error message in companion log of no server smh. I've tried multiple versions of companion and VLC as well

For the time remaining I just put $(vlc:r_hhmmss) in the Text field. Do you have the latest version of VLC? Are you running VLC on Windows? Is VLC running on the same computer as Companion?
@@smfmediadesign thank you very much vor everything. The solution was to change VLC language to Englisch (either one). Bitfocus has it on the debug list.
Under Advanced Settings go to Playlist in the menu. You would select "Repeat Current Item" but NOT "Play and ..." Stop, Pause, or exit. If you have one of the Play and ... options checked it will perform one of those actions and not repeat. Also don't forget to set the options and then exit VLC and open it back up again.
Followed to the letter 04/08/2021 but now VLC will not open on my Pi4. Any suggestions. I was finished "Add instance to companion" Could it be a password thing? I closed and restarted VLC on Pi4 but was not presented a PW option, result never opened.
Sorry to hear it stopped working. There should be a way to erase the config on linux. As for the password your browser should prompt you when going to ipaddress:8080 skip the username and enter the password you supplied. Hi, it seems to work with vlc but does not import the audio to my stream, do you know how to do this. Is it some HDMI config I have to do, and also what is the ISO key down you use, does not appear on my companion. thanks
The first thing to check would be other system sounds out of the computer using the HDMI as the output. In Windows you can specify the Output. Right Click on the Speaker in the taskbar by the clock and click "Open Sound Settings" From there you can choose your output device. If you can hear windows sounds through HDMI then VLC will work. There are similar settings in other operating systems.
It is new. I am running version 2.2.0 which is still in beta. I haven't looked at this feature in any great detail but it "allows you to recall buttons based on variables or time-based events."

that is called a stinger I think. I has to be possible combining commands send to the atem, macros and commands send to vlc. It requires some study and tryout on your part.

I implemented a most if not all of your tips. Thanks. One thing I cannot figure out is what commend in Companion to use to turn on the audio in the ATEM. I have it so it selects the correct video source and I have it so it goes full screen. But, I don't know how to switch the audio for that input "on" (except manually, of course). There are some firelight controls, but I must be missing something. Any help is appreciated!
incredibly confusing. i don't even have a tab called "instances" noithing lights up when i press buttons nothing happens at all and i have zero understanding of the language. is it even English? It's my firsat language but this makes zero sense at all and this is beginners???? i am fucked
This video was published in 2021 and references Companion V2.x and an older version of VLC.

im trying to do with using touch portal but it keeps saying plugin cannot connect to the http, any advice?

I did everything you did, but it wont connect. Says I need to enable Javascript, but all javascript is enabled...
What Internet Browser are you using? Have you tried another browser? I have not seen anything complain about javascript.
From the Facebook group it seems you may have fixed it. I hope it is up and running now.

Set fairlight audio input mix option. You will set your input, source type (stereo, mono), and Mix option you can toggle on/off.
