That "private, hidden beach" (😂) Lucy said is actually called Blue Lagoon. Colloquially known as "Paryusan nu Pali" (Where priests bathe), it is locally known as "Huhmuren." There is also a small spring (something like that) on the other side of the road where the water is very cold, and the mountain on top of it is actually one of the places where ancient Ivatans lived. That particular "idjang" (natural fortress) is called "Maluidjang." Proud Ivatan here. ♥️♥️🥰

That store is the pride of Batanes. It reflects the character of the residents in that community. Unbelievably amazing. Even me I am astonish yet makes me proud as a Filipino.

i grew up in Batanes and my hometown there is Ivana.. i haven't been back to Batanes since i left in 1999.. Honesty Coffee Shop owner is actually my Aunt Lina...😊 Lucy and George Thank you for travelling to my home province and sharing this it's Nostalgic to me and it's Amazing how they manage to keep the beatiful views and culture unchanged..simple life like 20 years ago. Batanes is so amazing. It is so green! People worldwide should have urban developments of returning the greens in the cities. Batanes reminds me so much of my granny's hometown of pilillio island. Miss the laid back simple life and lush greens and really really fresh air.

That's right old England. When Daniel Marsh went there, he said it reminded him of Ireland as well. Spmeone said there was something similar to the Honesty store in Switzerland. Amazing place, Batanes, it seems. I have yet to go. Whenever we can go anywhere.

when we visited Positano, Italy , the tour guide was telling us about this lelmonchelo drink which took the italians 100 years to perfect the taste ... of course we tried it.... it was really good but the funny part is, we have the kalamansi fruit which have a natural taste very much the same as the lemonchelo ...

Batanes is the exit point of typhoons hence their houses are made of stone. Ivatans are just less than 10k population. Very hardworking and honest folks

Great vlog. Love watching the dailies. Honesty store started with just 3-in-1 coffee and hot water under a tree by the beach where the fishermen landed. Storms frequently hit Batanes islands so practically everyone there has planted sweet potatoes to help avert starvation when the rice crops get destroyed by storms. Transportation from the mainland is very expensive... there's only one 20 seater bus there and it cost about PhP 400k to ship that bus there.
Glad you made it to Batanes.. The island across Ivana is Sabtang. I hope you can go there, they have more stone cottages there. In ancient times, the Ivatans also had stone fortifications (Idjang) around their villages. Very medieval. Honesty Shop works well in Batanes. It's all fixed prices, no haggling, no discounts, no end of year sale. They are probably the most original "Filipinos" since they developed independently for much of its existence annexed to the Philippines by Spain only in the late 1700s.The Austronesians settled the area around 3000 BC. The decendants of this one group or tribe in turn settled the Philippines, Malay archipelago, Polynesia, stretching from Easter island to Madagascar, Hawaii to NZ. According to anthropologists, the Austronesian migration is the world's greatest human expansion (language, culture, genes) by the ancient world's greatest mariners. (Outrigger canoes, following trade winds, navigating by stars). It all started in Batanes. Batanes is like a world on its own. Great place to chill and regroup.Btw., Batanes was first on my list when you asked where else to visit in the PH.

For me the most interesting fact that I found here in this Island is the idea in that shop for being honest, and I hope honesty will spead in the entire country and not just in Batanes

We have a couple of farms here in Texas where they have an "Honor System" fruit/veggie stand. You take what you want and leave money in a little lock box. Nobody steals, and nobody take the lock box! It's amazing, but there ARE places in the world where people are honest and friendly. We would love to have you visit Texas sometime to see what you think about our special part of the world.

Batanes is well known for their stone houses. Check them out and see how these houses are made and how sturdy they are to withstand horrendous typhoons that hit islands yearly.
Learn also how they do with their farming and livelihoods. Quite interesting to dig into the culture of the Ivatans.
I like it that Lucy is giving all these information about a place and its culture and its people.

I think human nature is the basically the same everywhere. There are places in the Philippines where a store like that works well, and there are some other places where it wouldn't. Same with the England. There are places in England where you could have a store like that, and places where you couldn't--in my opinion. It's a lovely idea though. Very nice.

Here in Marbella, sad to say, I’ve been witness to a lot of British people opening cool boxes for sodas and Coca Cola, they drink , quickly finish it, then w@lk around the cookie and bread section, they Open the goods, quickly eat them.....they go to the cash counter pay for one or two items, and not declare what they’ve taken out. :) that’s Costa Del Sol for you. Still, I love the UK and the British, being married to a wonderful gentleman who sadly passed away. I’ll be there in July. See you both there?

Restaurant to check out...Beehan Cafe and Hudzan Cafe...its in Basco...walk at Abad St...this is their main place, they don't have big markets just little store on the side of the street of Abad St....restaurants and stores are there....you can walk at night ...very safe....

I love the older version of honesty store, more cozy and homey. The conscience store was sabtang's version of honesty store. I love the town of Ivana. We stayed there for a night and i will definitely return and stay more in Ivana. Love sabtang too.
You should have entered the cave on the left side of the lagoon, near the enjoy swimming sign. It leads to a white beach on the other side of the rock. It makes you feel like a survivor, finding paradise, once you get on the other side. Trust me it's worth a try especially if you haven't seen the the white beach (which has another access by the road) 👌

13:06 Houses there are built that way because it's a common storm path; it has to be sturdy and can stand the worst possible storms during the typhoon season.

The houses are built in stone coz Batanes is landed by Storms and only in the Philippines that a zero casualties during the stormy season and about 230 miles away from Taiwan.

The Honesty Store speaks much about the character of the Ivatans. Doors and windows of houses are open and no thief or any bad person will enter the houses to steal or do harm to the occupants. Only in Batanes and nowhere else. It is Heaven on Earth.
