Formal upright? So no vet tape and wire? About the top that you guys removed, you could just make some fire wood from it. Or you could remove some of it's lowest branches, dip it in a rooting hormone and stick it into a bonsai soil and it'll make a good cutting. Next spring the stump will send an unimaginable amount of suckers. Let's hope it will bud along the stump too. It will be an amazing looking sculpture of a bonsai in 10 years if it does!
