    Would you normally do this work in the early Spring before the buds start to swell and how long would you leave it to graft before severing off the rear of the grafted branch?

      Hi Bob, you are welcome.
      Yes the timing you said is the best.
      Normally in June you can already cut off the rear, lets say September if you dont have so much experience. More info in my book

    I'd like to know how you direct growth into newly grafted branches? I have tried this technique of thread grafting on a fairly sparse tree with a few primary branches. Should I pinch early spring foliage on all branches apart from the grafted ones? Thank you

      Yes you have to let it grow freely until the graft isnt fixed and the callus are joined each other
