    Hi Maddie, I've been working here for three years now as a teacher. I agree with everything you said. I think the challenge of finding a job here is another aspect resulting from the simple fact that this country doesn't get much outside stimulus. Friendship circles get formed in middle school, maybe even before, and it's hard for an outsider to break in. Family circles are even tighter. It's very hard to penetrate those circles and that adds to the challenge of finding a job. En Uruguay todos se conocen. That's the charm and the problem. I think it's a paralell problem to other issues of acclimation here.

    • @MaddieAle
      @MaddieAle  Před 2 lety +5

      Yes interesting points! I have found that here, everyone is generally super friendly and welcoming, but to break into the "inner circle" is challenging! Even with family if you have not grown up here.

I speak native Spanish and also fluent in English, what are the opportunities to be useful for the Uruguayan society working in the biotech or pharmaceutical field? Also would like to marry an Uruguayan girl and form a happy family there. Any ideas are very welcome from Maddie and from Uruguayans as well. Hi again, Maddie
    This was a very informative video. It is always interesting to compare salaries between countries.
    My understanding is that in Uruguay salaries are reported after taxes, and that people are paid for 14 months per year...is that right?
    I had heard about tech and call center jobs there, so that is interesting that there are English language jobs in a Spanish-speaking country.
    Thanks for the very informative video!

    • @MaddieAle
      @MaddieAle  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes i think its similar in many South American countries because... "the US is where the money is" so being able to speak english is a bonus! as far as "paid for 14 months" i'm not sure maybe someone can confirm in the comments. BUT I know you do get guaranteed holidays, but it will depend on the company hiring you. One of my English students is Uruguayan but he works for an international company here (hence the english classes) And he often has to work Uruguayan holidays. Not the major ones... but there are "optional public holidays" where most Uruguayans don't work, but some companies can make you. It's kind of a confusing system until you're IN it.

    I retired early a year ago, out of the IT profession, and I am wondering if there are opportunities in that arena. I really like the chill vibe of the place, from what I have seen and read, but have never been, since the lock downs. (not much Spanish, but I'm working on that now)
    Can you point me in a direction?

      yes there is quite a big IT industry and many companies are grateful if the workers also speak english, if they are international companies that is! I don't know any names of specific companies unfortunately, but if you do research and find a company that has partners in the USA or UK or even in Brazil, many will communicate in english as its a common middle language!

    Coming to you from the lady who can't speak Spanish but wants to sell you English language classes is her take on the job market in a location where she has been unable to demonstrate sufficient competence to secure a cedula after almost 2 years. Respectfully, I would avoid offering advice on subjects where you so obviously have not put in the work.

      Te criaste con chinos? Por tu falta de respeto es obvio! Lol stop being so rude and assuming or labeling the young lady as racist. If the complaining component troubles you, stop watching. But id say to you, she is becoming a common Uruguayo. Porque son re-considos por quejones.
      Deja quieto loca. Deja de mirar Maddie's videos. No seas tan cancerosa. 🤣

      Pero criticarme por intentar compartir información no ayuda a nadie. Espero que tengas un maravilloso día.
