I'm a major Indians homer and even I know that was a travesty. Galaraga earned that one, and Jim Joyce (who was actually one of the better umps) completely blew it.
mattloveOHIOST5 come on man ease up. a perfect game is stupid rare and I'm sure he doesn't literally cry. But it's certainly still frustrating to think about.
The only excuse the umpire has on that one is the way he was positioned. From his perspective, he couldn't really see if Helton was on the bag or not. Still a shit call though.
I watched that entire 19-inning game between the Pirates and Braves. A wonderful game ruined by a horrible call at the plate (and I'm a Braves fan). The part I remember most about that play though (can be seen at 5:49) is that the batter-runner falls down going to 1st. If the call had been correct, he still had plenty of time to throw to 1st for a double-play, which ends the inning and sends the game to the 20th. Figure the umpire was tired and ready to go home.
@@anticipation2796 It isn't obvious from replays, and from what I can tell he's safe. However, the ump has the best view of the play, and on a close call like that I think his decision is most likely the best.
LMAOOO it's like he was sliding to a non existent base like 2 steps after running. I've never seen that in my life. That was more than slipped and fell, the dude took a huge tumble! LOL
Some of these calls at the end are actually really hard to tell, especially the last one, and really aren't warranted to be in a video featuring the WORST calls
The pirates blown call at home was so funny. The catcher looking left and right in sheer confusion. Then clint Hurdle coming out flexing and barking LOl. Im dying
The Pirate's catcher completely whiffed on the tag. You'd think the runner would be called out just because the throw beat him by a mile, but when you actually look at it the ump got it right.
+Jake Phlippeau You literally just proved his point. There is no human on this planet that can be a perfect umpire. Granted there were a few that were just... odd. But for the most part it was natural human error.
+Trenton Pottruff most of those calls weren't even close. I mean a team got their dreams screwed because someone fucked up is that fair? And don't feel bad for the ump, feel bad for Armando Galaraga who will be forever known as the guy who got screwed of a perfect game. Now people like you are oh no poor fucking umpire he made a bad call. And how in the fuck did I make his point.
Robert McNally I know he did....but apologies are meaningless. He knew there was only one more out for a perfect game so he should've been more focused. It was extremely obvious the guy was out and he called him safe. He will forever be remembered for this bad call. This is his lifes legacy.
I love in Minnesota and that call where hrbek pulled gant off the base is legendary! There was a giveaway of a bobble head where hrbek was pulling gant off the base! And there is also a statue outside the stadium of it!
+Collin Chesney if you watch videos like these, then you certainty won't. There are plenty of good mlb umpires. They are all really good, and I'm constantly impressed every time I see a play in slow mo and 19 times out of 20 they get it right.
+pilot88pro There needs to be some ability to punish REALLY bad calls by umpires, not during games because otherwise there would be no end to game delays. But following something like a game 7 AL/NL Championship Series where a really bad call happens, which after review is shown to be a really bad call, the ball clubs need to be able to submit reviews/ retraining requests against umpires. Unfortunately the area umpires make most of their bad calls is at the strike zone and its hard to correct those.
i was at the galaraga game. that shit blew my fucking mind. i know that the umpire later said that it shouldve been different, but he robbed that kid the best achievement a pitcher can have
The 4:15 one is crazy because there's an ump there whose ONLY JOB is to call that ball fair or foul. He's standing 20 feet away with a perfect view and he still misses it >_
Evan Nicholson Yeah he did. This video cuts off quickly but if you watch any other video about this game you'll see the catcher crawl over and tag Holliday on the leg while he's lying there.
I'll never forget watching that pirates game. I think it was like 19 innings and that ump blew that can intentionally without a doubt. the pirates went on a ridiculous losing streak after that.
Am I the only one who noticed how many times the Yankees benefited from these blown calls? Speaking of which, one you left out was in the 1977 or 78 World Series against the Dodgers on a double play ball, Reggie Jackson not only stood in the baseline after being put out at 2nd, he leaned his knee into the throw breaking up the DP.
+3ptSpecialistx3 Are you blind and can't read? He was talking about the LAST play in the video.. you know the one where the video ended right after? A close play like that is always going to go in the runners favor so I would've called him safe too. It was inches..
Last two were both REALLY close. Sure the second to last one was on the line, but it was leaning closer to the foul side, which would make sense why they called it foul.
mattrules24 like I said, I know it was fair but I mean when the ball whizzes by you only have a split second to see where it hit. Plus, the replay function isn't used as much as it could be in baseball.
+Alejandro Tejeda I completely agree. The last two were so close I don't think they belong on this list of "worst calls." Wrong, sure. Bad, sure. Worst, I dunno about that.
the one with the rookie and the padres isn't a bad call. that is the right call. the Catcher must retain the ball for the out. if the ball pops out at all , the runner is safe
+CreeperGamer 21 I understand everyone thought that he didn't tag home(he totally did) but even if he didn't he did step on it after and they never tagged him again
As a pirates fan I still want to know how much the braves paid meals to make that bs safe call at home in that one game because if i'm not mistaken that one call cost the first winning season in 20 some years
Extra inning game and I'm sure he wanted to get out of there. I'm a Pirates fan myself and I remember it like it was yesterday. That game alone cursed the Pirates the rest of the way.
I play rec ball and just tonight I was up to bat and a pitch was called a strikeout on me and on the next batter a ball, then my teammate up to bat was struck out on a ball that practically skimmed him. We lost the game because of this....
5:12 worst call I've ever seen. You can tell SO clearly he's out. Based on reactions you can tell the catcher knew it, the runner knew it, the fans knew it, and the announcers knew it. Disgusting. I sense bribery.
A couple of horrifying calls. The one where the first baseman was 2 feet off the bag, and the tag out 3 feet from home. The umps must have been day dreaming about after game activities.
The first play was the worst call ever
did you watch the rest? lol
I mean he robbed a perfect game which has only happened what, 20 times in baseball's history? That's pretty damn bad.
you are right, I didn't realize it was so few and far between.
Mega Knight oh my god
TheSpartyboy 3:06, guy was literally nowhere near the bag
#1 is easily the worst call in baseball history simply because of the implications. Took away a perfect game. Terrible.
Cardinals vs Royals cost St Louis the world series. if that's an out, they win and there's no game 7
Yeah...forgot about that one until it showed up
I'd have to agree. I'll never forget watching that game with my dad.
Totally agree. Out by 4 feet as well.
+Cam MacKinnon same
I still cry to this day about the Armando Galaraga perfect game.
I'm a major Indians homer and even I know that was a travesty. Galaraga earned that one, and Jim Joyce (who was actually one of the better umps) completely blew it.
Sxcred d
Than you have no life lol, crying over something like that? I'm sure Galarraga himself doesn't even cry,
mattloveOHIOST5 come on man ease up. a perfect game is stupid rare and I'm sure he doesn't literally cry. But it's certainly still frustrating to think about.
B T jokes on you my sister isn't 18
I feel like umpires were the kids in school that were never wrong.
Kids who got bullied
That Dodgers play almost killed me of laughter, Tod Helton was like a mile away from the bag.
+Omar Delabra hahahahaha
Ya agreed this was horrible
The only excuse the umpire has on that one is the way he was positioned. From his perspective, he couldn't really see if Helton was on the bag or not. Still a shit call though.
I dare all the girls to push whip cream pies in their face and put the video on youtube!!
i agree. that is by far the biggest no brainer call and the umpire still blew it. how even?
As a ump myself this is terrifying
Yes
+W.C.T Outdoors Right? If I made a call like some of these I'd probably be suspended and I do little league ball!
Thank god for reviews!
TheRealNoel2 the umpire made the right call there was no tag
Faris Dispensa no if you watch the replay in slow motion the glove giggles upon contact with the base runner. It was a tag.
That play at 5:08... are you EFFEN SERIOUS!?!? In what planet is that safe!? that's crazy...
It was a walk off too lol
Yeah I saw the "final" up in the score box and even the announcer couldn't believe the game was ending on that call. Crazy indeed!!!
didn't tag him, watch this video: czcams.com/video/YABX_zW-6Kc/video.html
I was sitting here wondering why McCutchen was pitching then I realized it's not who I thought it was
+SteelersLakersFan haha
same here
+SteelersLakersFan lol i was like who did McCutchen in some bleach
Me to
The reasons he called safe was cause it was the 19th inning and he was tired
Jerry Meals wanted to go home.
Lisa Miller He found out he wasn't getting paid extra
it isnt definitive
He missed the tag
@@thefungusamongus3958 idk but i think there's a chance he did miss the tag
@@anticipation2796 It isn't obvious from replays, and from what I can tell he's safe. However, the ump has the best view of the play, and on a close call like that I think his decision is most likely the best.
@ 5:13 WOW. The guy didnt even touch home on that "safe" slide
THANK GOD for instant replay
Brandon Driver yeah that one was hard to watch
He did at the end and the catcher never tagged the runner just search it up and view it over again you’ll change your mind
Demp 999 lol this call may have gone either way but it certainly was NOT a “terrible” call
#JusticeForMeals
umpires hate the angels
+NamesSimba they love the Yankees though
Jared Kensinger exactly
As an Angels fan I can confirm
Angels FTW
+Jared Kensinger Ya how many of those bad calls were in favor of the yankees, 5 atleast probably?
Notice a lot of them are Yankees
+Zack Arthur All of them benefit the Yankees
+Zack Arthur As a yankee fan, I also noticed that. #ConspiracyTheories #YankeesIlluminatiConfirmed
Money. All I'm saying.
Ikr
+Hunter Lewis there are 30 teams in the league
Lol at the one at 5:10 ish. That ump clearly just wanted to go home.
5:55 Did anyone ever notice the guy running at 1st slipped and fell.
+Revival333 oh my gosh hahah
LMAOOO it's like he was sliding to a non existent base like 2 steps after running. I've never seen that in my life. That was more than slipped and fell, the dude took a huge tumble! LOL
Dee Gordon did a slide like that on a bunt attempt before.
+Revival333 lol he was out of the base line too I think he is
+Eddy plays That's only if a tag is attempted that a baseline is established
The last one was a good call!!!
idk I agree
+Keanan Darnell It might have been wrong, but it was VERY close either way.
There were a few good calls but most I can't believe how dumb these umps are.
I know right, you can't call that a bad call if he made it there where even with the instant replay it was hard to tell
+Spartan Nation there is no rule and will never be the rule tie goes to the runner
the first one actually makes me really sad :( would have been a perfect game
Some of these calls at the end are actually really hard to tell, especially the last one, and really aren't warranted to be in a video featuring the WORST calls
Alex Tangen 🧐
The pirates blown call at home was so funny. The catcher looking left and right in sheer confusion. Then clint Hurdle coming out flexing and barking LOl. Im dying
This happens 3 years later and its a perfect game
The Tigers one still makes me sick
It's a bird... it's a plane... IT'S SUPER-UMP
The hero we didn't know we needed
"That is amazing!"
7:52 ever since kenan got fired from good burger, he has not found a decent job.
Nice
you can tell they know they fucked up when they don't toss any of the managers that are yelling at them lol
This is great I love how it's not just recent plays
The Pirate's catcher completely whiffed on the tag. You'd think the runner would be called out just because the throw beat him by a mile, but when you actually look at it the ump got it right.
good video until last 2. close calls that happen every game
Almost all of these sketchy calls involve the Yankees
mike matheny is a legend
I love how Escobar just goes "eh whatever" unlike the rest of them (even though they WERE bad calls)
If only these umps would follow the example of Mr. Gibson, and motion to *both* players, this could all be avoided.
that last one wasn't an awful call at all, maybe not the right one but no where near as blatant as the other ones.
That was too close!!!
Jim Joyce shall forever be remembered as the umpire who blew a perfect game.
And this is why instant reply is the best feature to be implemented in decades.
lmao I always crack up after seeing Helton run off the field like a croc.
I love how the Yankees are in half these clips
We can all agree that umpires are blind
The first one even the Cleveland player is shocked at Jim Joyce's call that cost Armando Galarraga his perfect game.
Half of these aren't even bad calls. There a few close ones and a couple that were even the correct call.
true
People just dont get how hard it is to be an umpire
+Jake Phlippeau You literally just proved his point. There is no human on this planet that can be a perfect umpire. Granted there were a few that were just... odd. But for the most part it was natural human error.
Did you even watch the video? Which one of these calls were correct and which besides the last were close??
+Trenton Pottruff most of those calls weren't even close. I mean a team got their dreams screwed because someone fucked up is that fair? And don't feel bad for the ump, feel bad for Armando Galaraga who will be forever known as the guy who got screwed of a perfect game. Now people like you are oh no poor fucking umpire he made a bad call. And how in the fuck did I make his point.
Watching the first clip hurts every single time 😭
I root for that team and he through a perfect game intill that
+Zedrique Ahmed Me too....that was the all-time worst call in the history of baseball. Joyce is a total fucking idiot.
+RapIsDeadly Jim ended up coming out and admitting he stole that perfect game. he felt like crap that he blew that call.
+Robert McNally True. At least he could be a man about it and say that he was wrong.
Robert McNally
I know he did....but apologies are meaningless. He knew there was only one more out for a perfect game so he should've been more focused. It was extremely obvious the guy was out and he called him safe. He will forever be remembered for this bad call. This is his lifes legacy.
That Pirates coach is *EXTREMELY* terrifying!!!
man. that Galaragga play just broke my heart for him cause it took away his one moment cause he never did much more after that.
Jim Joyce made the worst call of all time
+binz7 Agreed. Shame he is actually one of the best umpires out there, apart from that call obviously. Breaks my heart every time I see it
+binz7 At least he admitted he made the wrong call.
+Chad Infante Best? HA!
Reggie Gardner only a perfect game!!!!!! That's even more important than a World Series. A perfect game is a great feat.
Some of these calls are not that bad, others should have been very obvious.
+rizon72 The Pirates/Braves call was by far the worst. Guy got tagged a mile from home plate.
+jimvo the throw beat him but that tag was really fucking borderline.
The end ones were pushing it.
+jimvo First one was easily the worst the guy had a perfect game, once in a lifetime achievement taken away by Jim Joyce
5.00 that call at 3rd with two guys tagged is crazy, as were some other calls
Yankees HR call against the Orioles was pure umpire payback for the Alomar spitting incident.
some of those were close calls that anybody could easily blunder
The perfect game even if it's close you're out
+Redsoxking I didn't say all of them were close. I said some. that call was BS and if someone disagrees they are just tiger haters.
Stephen Meek I'm talking in general not about you people like to see perfect games
Who else notices that a lot of the calls are in favor of the yankee😂😂😂
I love in Minnesota and that call where hrbek pulled gant off the base is legendary! There was a giveaway of a bobble head where hrbek was pulling gant off the base! And there is also a statue outside the stadium of it!
I love how Helton just walks off like a kid who knows he got away with something haha
He sold it,incredible defensive 1st baseman, saw him alot at Coors Field, most underrated defensive 1st baseman ever!!!
These calls actually upset me. Cood compilation.
I've played baseball since I was four and I still have yet to find a good umpire
+Collin Chesney if you watch videos like these, then you certainty won't. There are plenty of good mlb umpires. They are all really good, and I'm constantly impressed every time I see a play in slow mo and 19 times out of 20 they get it right.

I know right
still pissed about the perfect game bad call at the beginning
Baseball highlights are my favorite sports highlights to watch
Last one was close so i give the ump the call
The last one was close. Not too bad.
+Alpha Dman Safe was the correct call on the last one. It was a great call.
Yeah that's what I thought. haha :)
+Justin Miller yeah same!
+Justin Miller no he,was, out by a mile because its just the screen, his foot was in the aie
Brian J. Biondo It's extremely close. If he was out, it was not "by a mile". I understand if you want to disagree, but no need to exaggerate.
The Belton call was hilarious
4:00 more proof that the Yankees organization runs the MLB
+MrHow2fail nothing wrong with that ;)
Yankees Are the best :) stay salty lol
Dont talk shit on the Yanks, it was a bad call but ya don't blame it on the Yankees blame the ump next time kid!!!
+Donkashane I'm pretty sure that being 6.5 GB isn't "good"
4:22 is worse
i was at the galaraga game. that shit blew my fucking mind. i know that the umpire later said that it shouldve been different, but he robbed that kid the best achievement a pitcher can have
+Andrew Franklin I will always suspect that he did it on purpose knowing he could just say sorry later.
notice how many of these calls were in favor of new york...
That dinger by Jeter will never be forgotten
this is why there should be genuine challenges and video replay in the MLB
The 4:15 one is crazy because there's an ump there whose ONLY JOB is to call that ball fair or foul. He's standing 20 feet away with a perfect view and he still misses it >_
the last one was a super close call, anyone couldve made that mistake
The first one is the worst simply because of the fact that it took a perfect game away from the pitcher.
LOL, I think that Pittsburgh manager's face turned a color that hasn't even been invented yet on that blown home plate call.
WOW! Yankee always have umps on there side
Matt Holliday still hasn't touched home...
And the catcher still hasn't caught the ball...
Evan Nicholson The catcher picked it up and tagged Holliday while he was still lying there... that's an out.
+Sean McGuire sure, he picked it back up but he never tagged Holiday
Evan Nicholson Yeah he did. This video cuts off quickly but if you watch any other video about this game you'll see the catcher crawl over and tag Holliday on the leg while he's lying there.
+Sean McGuire looks like he gets close but gives up right before he touches him
I'll never forget watching that pirates game. I think it was like 19 innings and that ump blew that can intentionally without a doubt. the pirates went on a ridiculous losing streak after that.
i would like to see a huge compilation of managers arguing with the umpires
Am I the only one who noticed how many times the Yankees benefited from these blown calls? Speaking of which, one you left out was in the 1977 or 78 World Series against the Dodgers on a double play ball, Reggie Jackson not only stood in the baseline after being put out at 2nd, he leaned his knee into the throw breaking up the DP.
There are other videos showing calls going against the Yankees, but yeah in postseason Yankee legends are made, sometimes by umpires!
that last clip that was showed idk about it was pretty close i would have called him safe too
He didn't even touch home until the end are you blind
+3ptSpecialistx3 Are you blind and can't read? He was talking about the LAST play in the video.. you know the one where the video ended right after? A close play like that is always going to go in the runners favor so I would've called him safe too. It was inches..
I would really just like to listen to the arguments had with the umps and coaches they have to be hilarious
That's why I love replays, now it's almost always the right call
Last two were both REALLY close. Sure the second to last one was on the line, but it was leaning closer to the foul side, which would make sense why they called it foul.
on the line is fair no matter what side of the line
mattrules24 like I said, I know it was fair but I mean when the ball whizzes by you only have a split second to see where it hit. Plus, the replay function isn't used as much as it could be in baseball.
Some of them where too close to be a missed call. Good thing there's replay now.
Replays were around for a good bit of these
+NightReaperGaming no they just added repalys some of these were from 3-4 + years ago
The perfect game call is why we now are able to challenge plays
And THAT'S why we can challenge plays now. It's a thing of beauty
name me another sport where u can get in an official s face and scream ur head off lmao god bless baseball
Hockey, football, basketball, soccer, etc... Basically any sport
+Big Mak Ok there buddy... You clearly don't watch basketball. Tim Duncan got ejected for laughing.
+Steve idk about some other sports but in football and Hockey u can do that
+Brett Baranowski And freestyle/Graeco Roman Wrestling. You might not win the argument, but you can definitely try.
+Big Mak No not so in Rugby... True gentlemens sports ;)
The last 2 are really tight, anyone could have made that mistake
+Alejandro Tejeda I completely agree. The last two were so close I don't think they belong on this list of "worst calls." Wrong, sure. Bad, sure. Worst, I dunno about that.
Always a good time to see some old fashion ball !
The Todd Helton one makes me laugh everytime
Notice how many of these benefited the Yankees...
Lol
Biggest cheats in baseball! Don't get me wrong I appreciate a good scam once in awhile but man the Yankees got no shame with the shit.
Yeah, I could edit together my choice of bad calls to make it seem that way, too.
yankees get all the calls and get all the praise
jumping off a bridge? playing with knives? jerry meals says its safe! i'll never forgive him for that.
That double out at third, the ump was like "wait wait, I forgot I was paid off"
I watched that first one as it happened. Wanted to throw the remote through the tv lol
That looks out?i dont understand?
+Aidan V2250 it was out, but it was a bad call. It should have been the last out of a perfect game.
Nearly all of these bad calls benefit the Yankees.
the throw beat him by a mile me and my friend say that every time we play baseball
5:08 was the best call in MLB history
the one with the rookie and the padres isn't a bad call. that is the right call. the Catcher must retain the ball for the out. if the ball pops out at all , the runner is safe
I'm a catcher and that is a hundred percent right, he has to tag him if he has to block a pitch on the third strike.
+CreeperGamer 21 I understand everyone thought that he didn't tag home(he totally did) but even if he didn't he did step on it after and they never tagged him again
+CreeperGamer 21 youre thinking about the wrong play....and the play when he caught the ball but blue thought it hit the floor was a horrible call
But they did review. There wasn't conclusive evidence that he had touched the plate, that's why it was over ruled
As a pirates fan I still want to know how much the braves paid meals to make that bs safe call at home in that one game because if i'm not mistaken that one call cost the first winning season in 20 some years
+Matthew Ford Yup. You're right. I'm not a Pirates fan but that was stupid. It was clear the catcher tagged him out. Meals was drunk or paid.
Lyd And Ally Well he did say the next the day he made the wrong call but only after seeing the replay
Matthew Ford xD.
Extra inning game and I'm sure he wanted to get out of there. I'm a Pirates fan myself and I remember it like it was yesterday. That game alone cursed the Pirates the rest of the way.
My guess is that mabey that game was rigged
That play with Todd Helton not stepping on the bag. I can't stop laughing. 😂
He sold it,the most underrated defensive 1st baseman ever!!!
The worst part about these is that the umpires defend these calls and probably even eject some of the players arguing for the call
This is why we need replay. These calls are just so bad. We don't need these in the game.
They do now
There is replay now...
Kory Page And some people don't like it.
Cody King that's because they're idiots.
Nope. Not even a bad call. It's really hard to tell if he was even tagged or not. Look it up.
Lmao he was safe the tag missed him sad how you accuse one of the most decorated umpires with “bribery
Faris Dispensa Its a bad angle. You can tell in this video at 8:37 he brushed him. czcams.com/video/9cWzyo5lsR8/video.html
that was gunna be a perfect game
the 1st one
A couple of horrifying calls. The one where the first baseman was 2 feet off the bag, and the tag out 3 feet from home. The umps must have been day dreaming about after game activities.
