Just a reminder that fans attend games to see the PLAYERS not the umpires. If you’re going to hold players to such high expectations, their on field counterparts need to be held to the same standards. An umpire screws up, he’s held accountable just like a player. A player doesn’t touch an umpire, an umpire doesn’t touch a player. A player doesn’t point at an umpire, an umpire doesn’t point at a player. I read a story where in either 1981 or 1983 when Angel was an A ball rookie umpire in Florida, he was jumped by two drunk angry fans for his bad performance and beaten. The damage resulted in 35% vision loss in one eye. He literally can’t see the low corners. He sued and the settlement out of court in 1986 was a job for life/until retirement.
