Got asked to supplement shoot some 35 for a friend wedding photographer a few weeks ago. Everything you guys said at the end about what a wedding photographer is, I saw her do on that day for the bride/groom/family... everyone, is so true. Great experience seeing her in action. Love this episode

So pumpd that Steven got an A7CII! I started shooting weddings on an A7C, which originally I bought for nothing but private shooting (and intended to never get more than one prime lens for it). After getting into shooting weddings, I’ve built a kit around the A7C and A7CII with a bunch of primes - so yes, a bunch of gear for sure. But I love shooting with it (don’t enjoy zooms), and with a leather dual harness and leather half cases on those cameras, it just feels like ME. I’ll admit I feel cool even just walking around with that kit on a wedding day.
And funny to see the JBL Clip 4! Eric, you turned me onto getting that thing by talking about the Clip 3 you used to use.
Shooting weddings on single slot cameras is wildly irresponsible.
@@BenHowlandPhoto I know quite a few people feel that way. But from all the research I’ve done, with current cameras and high quality memory cards, there’s not really anything to worry about. I certainly haven’t had any issues 50,000+ images (spread across three SD cards) into my photography journey.
I made the same switch and sold my canon r5 for a sony a7cii and it was the best decision because of those better video capabilities and custom luts on the slog3. BTW weddings are awe--some.

I JUST discovered this podcast, I'm in love! As a wedding photographer that shoots film, I really enjoyed hearing about how you two approach your wedding days. Have either of you tried the Pentax 645nii system for medium format? I'd love to know what you think of it!
I've been shooting medium format at my weddings with a manual focus lens, and i'm really feeling like it takes a little too long to get the shots for my clients. Especially since when I switch from digital AF lenses to MF, the pace of the shoot suddenly changes and I haven't figured out how to transition that very well yet.
I can't wait to binge watch the rest of the podcasts!
Ahhh thanks so much for watching & listening! Our studio mate actually has either that exact Pentax or an iteration of it. I've held it a few times (Eric speaking) - and I prefer the Mamiya 645AF as far as function goes. I believe Gene got rid of his Pentax, but if he didn't, he rarely uses it now, mostly because he's usually only shooting film on his M6 & Mamiya7. Agreed, the speed at which you can shoot is so important on a wedding day. Having an assistant to load film and help with other processes is so important if you're moving slower.

do you have any concerns about the single sd card slot in the a7cii for weddings?
I don't think I could ever trust myself with one card slot, given that I've shot with 2 for so long, but I know Steven trusts it through and through. -Eric

to the Sony comment. Sorry if that came across as insensitive. I think you're in a season where if you really focus on growing the business, that would be a massive thing for you to have a foundation to build more things. Wedding + Commercial to subsidize creative projects.
