One thing I noticed is that the people I see with waist length hair have medium to thick density hair. I have yet to see a fine haired natural have waist length hair. Everything breaks my fine hair off. even when I am super gentle. I don’t any room for error like those with thicker hair do

The truth is for most of us 4c-z ladies this will be a 3 to 4 year journey and maybe more.
Our hair grows, but a big chop, to healthy, to waist length, doesn’t happen in a year.
    Heathy hair will grow.
    It takes time for us.
    Don’t give up hope.
Stay consistent if this is your desire to have “ lady Godiva” length hair.
Your determination will be your own reward.
    Peace ❤

Very well said. I must share for anyone who can use it. When I transitioned to natural, I never did a big chop. My hair has always been past the shoulders. On wash day, I continued to do roller sets, just like with perm. I clipped my ends gradually, maybe every 2 months. Hair is completely natural now and growing very nicely. I stay away from direct heat. Occasionally I will use a hooded dryer. I am 4 years natural and enjoying learning how to handle my natural hair from my you tube sisters. I won't say it has been an easy journey but it is very rewarding. I will never go back to the creamy crack! Have a great day.

I am natural, now, but I won’t lie when I say I loved creamy crack. The only difference is I would always wear a short Jada/Halle Berry length cut. I loved my short permed hair. I love my natural hair, but It’s so much work for me. So I do braids. I just love it when my sisters are wearing their hair natural and long❤️

Nobody grows waist length hair from scratch in a year. Hair grows about 6 inches per year, give or take, no matter the texture. So yeah 3-4 years is a normal time frame. Factor in setbacks, and it might take a little longer though.

Forgetting about length and enjoying your hair at it’s current stage is the best thing you can do for your hair. Especially if you want length retention.
Plus some of us have more shrinkage than others (Before anyone starts telling how ‘real’ it is, I LOVE my shrinkage as much as every other healthy part of my body. We good over here👌🏾). My tailbone length hair shrinks to just below my shoulders.
Seeing my length isn’t really a priority for me because I know how much manipulation will have to take place for me to see it. I’d rather enjoy my volume over my length. So styles that showcase my volume always works best for me. And of course headwraps. Those will always be a staple 😉

Im close to waist length and I find that using heat to stretch my hair and washing once a month (I have low sebum production) has helped me retain length in a way that is more visible to me now. and it’s easier to see where I need to trim. Before I would try to do wash and gos and braid outs and I didn’t feel my hair thriving like it is now. @yourfavbecca yes. I use the revlon paddle brush dryer. But I recently bought the new Revair and I love it! Way less damaging to the ends and very little heat. I just wished over favorite CZcamsrs would tell us the time all of this work took and keep saying it. I have been natural for ten years and I’m at mid back. It’s possible for all of us even with the simplest routines.
But there are girls struggling to grow their hair and they think something is wrong but it’s really just TIME. Yea length retention and all that stuff but time is a huge factor. No one did this overnight and we have ALL had setbacks. I think if these types of videos were followed by the setbacks and how stressful it all was there would be less issues in our natural hair community.
Anyways. I love green beauty. I have followed her for many years but she makes it look to easy, “just scoop and spread”, which made me feel like something was wrong with me in the beginning of my journey as I have never seen a drop of sebum, lol

I'm pretty sure once I get the scalp routine down I'll get there volume I'm looking for. I used to have big hair without trying lol I miss those days. Knowing is one thing. Thank you! When naturals stop focusing on length and start focusing on health, results will show. It’s like watching paint dry. Your hair is no better than a natural with a TWA because you have waist length hair.

I got to BSL with minitwists. I'm now in a cold climate so I decided to switch to flat braiding and wearing a headband wig for the winter months while still washing and DC weekly. In my minitwist days i would redo every 6 weeks so I will do the same with the flat braids. In the warmer months I will minitwist. I'm tall so getting to waist length requires 22" hair. So 6" to go. I also oiled my scalp with noncomedogenic oils infused with auyervedic herbs. Enjoy the process. Thanks for this series it's renewed my resolve to get to this goal. . I will check out your product line.

You have a new subscriber here. I always wonder why I had single stand knots and my hair breaking off. I wasn’t stretching or doing any hot oil treatment. And… on my vacations I would get my hair done but somehow I feel like that hot water she would dip my hair in was the real reason why my hair was breaking off; because she would dip my natural hair in it. No wonder my ends were so stringy. No more…

Congrats on reaching your hair goal! I would love it if you could address scalp issues such as smelly scalp. I have to wash my hair every 7-10 days or so because by Day 4-5 after my wash my scalp develops an embarasing sour smell (that I know other near me can get a whiff of), without necessarily having any major build up. Washing once a month right now is a dream for me. I am mid-length stage. I have tried everything from Witch Hazel, to masking with essential oils, salicylic acid shampoo occasionally. My scalp just wants that water and shampoo.

Washing your hair weekly is a good thing! You’re cleansing your scalp and conditioning your strands on a regular basis, just like we have to cleanse and lotion our bodies. Scalp is still skin and maybe you sweat more than some. You could also see a doctor/dermatologist, it could be an underlying health issue that no one o the internet can diagnose or treat for you. There is a black dermatologist directory that could help you find someone

Have you tried diet changes?? Might be what you eat is coming through your pores there. Also hydration ?? And try eliminating using the shampoos and conditioner too much by perhaps only water washing in between or just condish in-between and eventually your hair might adjust accordingly.
