  • There was 6 Loose screws in this Canon EF-s 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS, but it's not that hard to fix, just be aware of the thin flexcables, and remember to set small marks on a few parts.

Thanks for another great demonstration. I should start looking for cheap lenses and cameras to try for myself.

I have that lens and it's sticking. It also happened shortly after I bought it so had it repaired under warranty. Now it's 10 years old so I'll give it a go myself this time thanks to your video. Just ordered the 222 so will do it in a couple of days' time. Never did like the way the lens would flop out by itself! Thanks.
    Edit:
I had to repair my lens because I couldn't retract the zoom fully so also couldn't lock it in place. I followed the disassembly instruction in your excellent guide until I found the culprit. Like the 1 slider guide lug you remove during disassembly, there are 3 further guide lugs that you don't really mention. One of them can be seen at 31:37 right above your thumb. One of these lugs had come out and was jamming the Zoom. Turned out the screw holding it in place had sheared so nothing I could do about it. I just reassembled with the remaining 2 lug in place. The Lens is working OK (I think), but with only 2 guides might give me problems in the future.
I missed your bit about the correct screws to undo when removing the AF unit. I took the wrong ones out but got away with it despite a tiny spring trying to escape.
    Thanks again.

Sorry for not showing the other details, but it's good you figure it out youself, and hopefully it will work as it should, but use it gently.

@@mikeno62 Actually the Auto Focus is struggling now. It can take a couple of seconds and about 1 in 4 times is way off. Is there a reset or re-calibration needed, or have i messed something up in the reassembly? I've tried it on 2 different bodies (500D and 50D) and it's the same.

Hi Mikeno, I wanted to know if you could have a solution to my problem. I purchased a Helios 44-2 Valdai version, but in silver colour. having a canon 5d first version I wanted to adapt the lens using the m42/eos adapter. unfortunately I read that some helios on this camera extend too much when focusing on infinity and the mirror risks touching and breaking. how could I solve it? Thank you

Hello, Don't know how to get a hold of you but I have some items you can use for your content. They are a Canon FD 50mm f1.2 with fungus, a Canon FD 100mm 2.8 with a gritty focus ring and a Sigma 150-500mm zoom (Nikon F) with dust inside that you can see in the pictures not that bad but still annoying. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks
