  • In this video I will show How it's possible to convert a Non-Ai aperture ring to Ai aperture ring in old Nikkor lenses, with a home made wooden tool and a Dremel / Proxoon multi tool.
I will use the cameras aperture ring (F-0) and the lens mount to measure how the correct mark should be set in lens aperture ring.
    Attention!
Converting the aperture ring in a lens is a NON reversal process, make
sure that you measure correct! and set the mark in the correct position.
And make the grinding very carefully! And work slowly.
You can of course also use a metal file to make this conversion.

Excellent info! That gives me hope for 2 lenses: A 50mm f/1.4 and a 28mm f/2.8. Much appreciated!

I did the same thing with (I forget the lens, east Europe uses almost exact Nikon mount) tofit the sliding tab of Nikon film and old digital.
I used a large file. I like how simple the mechanism is.
I enjoyed the trip to your workshop.
I tried using my cheap pillar drill as a mill , but the spindle has a lot of sideways movement.

It will be different on the marks if you compare the two different model lenses although same focal length and aperture because the mechanical linkage and construction of the aperture internal distance at f3.5 is different. Hence the markings will also be different. As long as the reading is accurate at f3.5 it is already very good. It will be a concern if the markings are different on two identical lens model after you have done the cut on the lens.
