They do those alerts at like 3 AM now and they’re always so scary if I’m up at that hour because it doesn’t play on the channel, it hijacks the entire cable signal with a gray screen that says “EAS”, at least in my area
I think my CBS station WJBK did run an EBS test on a Sunday morning for numerous times during the 1980s to compare with the other CBS O&O's WBBM Chicago and WCBS in NYC. WJBK rarely runs EBS tests on weekdays and it is the known station that runs mostly on weekends in Detroit.
I used to think Chuck D's 1980 ebs test with the ford escort commercial for the first second was the oldest ebs test on youtube, but when I saw this, I know see that we have a tie.
Yes , the way they do those tests even up to when the E.B.S was being replaced by the more advanced E.A.S, they do these tests periodically, although the attention signal is beginning to annoy certain viewers.
Now that I'm a grown ass man I heard the tone and stopped and said I remember that. I would like to know the results of that occasional 60 second Test what HZ is that? And how did it affect the human body and mind at that time.
Speaking of the WCBS video that aired on Sunday Morning, Chicago's WBBM airs EBS tests every Sunday Morning at 8:30am. I think WCBS does the same way like WBBM
EAS CEC All I know is WJBK in the early 1980s. It was a light blue background with a CD logo on the top left corner and the WJBK TV 2 logo on the top right with the words Emergency Broadcast System in between the logos and the test script underneath it. WJBK used that slide from 1978-88 when the second logo change of the ‘80s took place.
This is a John Tesh of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a Tesh!
Who's he
Beat me to that joke 10 years ago.
@@Precurefangirl he was the host of entertainment tonight, the John tesh show, and a new age or neo classical 🎹
The guy at the begining
He wrote the 'NBA on NBC' tune as well..
I didn't know that there was gonna be a test I didn't study
Wow, I can't believe that this was made in 1980 and this is older than E.T!!! 😮 This was made a couple years before the movie E.T came out in 1982!!!
If you think this is scary, just wait until you hear the Emergency Alert System

The EAS is a whole other can of worms I don’t wanna open
That's straight old school right here.
I wasn't even born yet when this was broadcast. I was born in 1984. These were less scarier than the Emergency Alert System.

Now they give you the RED ALERT over your cell phones!!!
The voiceover here was Wally King.

Nick albers Can you tell me what does the EBS Slide look like for WBBM and WJBK?
the same. but with a different header and screen
Damtendo's Vocaloid Channel, What Does the different screen look like on both stations?
In the Sixties, WBBM used a slide with the Civil Defense Shield. Beyond that, I couldn't say.

What happened to the line of "This station serves the ______ area"
Oddly enough, WCBS didn't include that line in their closing spiel until about the mid-80s.
Can I use this for compilation?
Sure, go ahead.
CONELRAD/Emergency Broadcast System/Emergency Alert System
Here’s a copy of the show this came from, minus the test: m.czcams.com/video/ZEt5hJbTmyk/video.html
