    When my beardie is outside he is very aware of birds. The second he hears one his head goes sideways looking for it. It's an instinct they kept even though they are no longer in Australia.

    • @TheDethsight
      @TheDethsight Před měsícem

      it's amazing how much of their outback instincts are still intact. they have a "third eye", as well, to help them see shadows that go overhead. i would bet that that is on it's way out, at least in captive beardies. so, we may have a different species! in thousands of years lol.

    My beardie, lovely gal named Mirabar, just loves waving and pawing at her reflections. She's done a little headbobbing with me, and I've seen her gaping plenty of times. Figured she was breathing in the mist I just sprayed into the tank. She used to burrow under her rocks/food dish when she was smaller, but now lazes in her hammock most of the day.

    there is another "theory" i've heard about why some beardies get so defensive when they first go outside. it's that they have never really seen their keeper in UV light. at least not in actual full UV. yea, we provide them with UV(B) in their enclosures, but we can never match the sun. and that may scare them enough to get defensive. I have taken all 4 of mine outside before (2 younger ones under a year old and 2 older ones(3 and 4 years old)) and the older girls i have are much more defensive/mad at first. they do calm down after a few minutes when i hold them on the short walk we go on.

    I have two beardies. My one year old male is very laid back and totally chill. My three month old female is the exact opposite. I need help! She is extremely timid, skiddish and aggressive. She will back herself into the corner, hiss and even bite if I attempt to pick her up or pet her. My heart is just breaking. Getting the male, a little over a year ago, was our first experience with a bearded dragon and he was just so easy. Was he just a rarity? Someone please tell me something!

    Pretty sure our bearded just threw a mad fit.. my hubby who usually has treat in hand when he approaches the lizard came empty handed.. told him I dont have a treat.. he puffed his beard bigger than I have seen him ever do.. gaped his mouth wide open and stomped his front legs several times and turned his back to him... Can I consider that a temper tantrum? He is normally very chill and only puffs when I puff my checks at him.. and certainly has never gaped to the point of wide open and has never foot stomped! I'm pretty sure he was mad about the man not bringing him one of his fav bugs as a snack but spoke to him anyways??? I never knew a lizard could have so much personality and hope that's all it was.. Hes been such a joy the past 6 months we've had him...

    • @ColdBloodCreations
      @ColdBloodCreations  Před 3 lety +1

      Young bearded dragons can eat super worms, as long as the worms are size-appropriate! A good rule of thumb is to never feed a dragon insects that are larger than the space between the dragon's eyes. This is to be sure the insect can be easily swallowed. Hope this helps!
