A few years later 50 series will be announced, by then 40 series will get some discount, and 30 series will receive a huge price cut, which means 20 series will be dirt cheap. And that would be the best time to buy the 10 series. Once my friend buys the 10 series GPU, I can get my hands on his 9 series to replace my GTX 760M. So excited thinking about it

    @Dave2D, a foolish question, I just checked iBuyPower, System76, etc., where a similar desktop build to the Blade 16 costs roughly the same. Still, the laptop has the added advantage of having a pretty good screen and portability(battery and a good keyboard). Can you please explain why the price is too high for the uninitiated? It is high but similar to a pre-built custom high-end desktop with remarkably identical specs.

    Nvidia used to have a "M" for Mobile moniker in their GPUs dedicated to laptops.
    A GTX 980M had less SM cores and was cut down compared to a GTX 980 desktop.
    Then for the 1xxx and 2xxx series, they dropped the M moniker as for once, the laptops and desktop chips were the same (just the frequency and memory were different).
    For the 3xxx series, the chips began to be different again with the laptop parts being cut down but they didn't reintroduced the M.
    And for the 4xxx series, they blatantly shifted their offering to be deceptive.
    A 4090 in laptop is actually using an ADA103 which is same chip as... the 4080 desktop.
    And again still no M moniker.
    You can expect a lot of 4090 in the Steam surveys this year that will be basically laptop versions and should in reality be 4080.
    Nvidia is really deceptive and I hate that part of the way they are doing their business.

    • @HNedel
      @HNedel Před rokem

      What do you think would change if they put an “M” next to it? People would say it’s too expensive for an M? Or that they will wait for the non-M version in a laptop? Or they would buy the desktop because then they will know for sure it’s not the same?
      You think if the laptop was the same price, and had the same chip, but was called 4080M, people would say it’s too expensive and refuse to pay? In case you didn’t notice, they are saying this right now with a 4090 on the label 😅

      and may I remind you for the 3xxx laptop chips, the wattage actually matters A LOT. 95W vs 120W variants can differ a lot in performance, and NVIDIA didn't even bother baking the naming on the chip, or even standardizing it's power usage to AIBs. Nvidia's laptop naming is either dumb, or just straight up evil.

      I think this is the wrong approach to achieve high framerstes, they probably sunk a bunch of money into it, and this could be a big reason why the new cards are so expensive. Or they think this will have such added value to gamers, that they will pay for it through the nose. The marketing sounds a bit like those “MP3 restorers”, which supposedly analyze and add the missing high frequency information 🤔 i know you can at least see it, like you can see interpolated frames on a tv that claims 400Hz interpolated framerate, but it is still fake, and your brain knows it

Same goes for the other Gpus, the 4080 is not the same as the desktop 4080, it shares more similarities with the 4070, because even the 4070ti beats it. The downgrade from 16gb (3080ti) to 12gb (4080) already tells us that they just named all of it wrong, just to charge more.

    Concerning DLSS, FSR and similar technologies; using a 4090 or some high end GPU might make the tech look a bit useless or unimpressive, but a laptop with a 3050 for example that might only be capable of running some games at 1080p medium might be able to push the settings a bit higher or gain some extra frames for a overall better experience.
    DLSS is exclusive for the RTX series sadly but FSR and XESS (Intel's version) is more open, and it made the new COD playable on my GTX1650 laptop, otherwise unless I heavily drop the settings and resolution its a powerpoint slideshow, A friend of mine is able to enjoy Overwatch 2 with a 4th gen intel CPU and a GTX750 thanks to FSR as well!
    I can see how upscalling 4K to 8K might be stupid, but 720p to 1080p for example on lower end systems is quite the boost.

I prioritise portability as I also need to bring my work laptop (sometimes 2), so I decided to buy the blade 14 last year. Decided to return it shortly after as I wasn't comfortable about the price I paid for it.
    Instead, you can buy a much cheaper laptop or tablet, much more portable, convenient with good battery, and simply use a stream-based Windows or gaming service. Get a Samsung tablet and connect to your desktop remotely instead if you don't want to pay a subscription.

    price increases for those will be. Despite widespread shortages of both chips and laptops at the start of 2022, there were still plenty of bargains to be had at the end of the year. I think you really undersold DLSS 2.0 for laptops. DLSS quality, even at 1080p, looks awesome, considering how bad some TAA solutions are in some games, it can be pretty darn equivalent to native. DLSS, even at quality, has a profound uplift on framerate, since you’re rendering half the pixels at that point.

I'll stick with upper tier previous gen hardware, and just ignore the Ray Tracing sliders like I've done my entire life. That 6800S GPU gives great performance on a 1440p screen. That is mind-blowing. Those time-spy scores are better than nearly every top-tier, last-gen DESKTOP GPU. In a laptop.
    At this point it's getting a bit silly, because this means that if you're sitting on anything other than literally the top-tier GPUs of last gen you're going to get a massive upgrade, in spite of this being a laptop.

    I really want to see the 4090 at 120W in the G14. The most exiting GPU however might be the 4050 for me. Early leaks of the 35W variant put it above a high power 3050ti and very close to a 65W RTX 3060. What's so cool about this? 35W 4050 should be capable of rocking every AAA game you toss at it at high/max settings 1080p/60FPS no problems. Add DLSS3.0 and FG to it and you basically can make any ultra thin laptop a capable gaming power house. Now THAT is a GPU worth celebrating and it's only the entry level.

    • @Rampant16
      @Rampant16 Před rokem

      Exactly, laptops should be portable and affordable. Give me somethings that's small, quiet, and stays cool but can still run games at 1080p decently.
      A massive laptop with a 4090 is just dumb. It's huge, it's heavy, it's comically expensive, it's a space heater, and it probably sounds like a jet engine.
      And for what? 4k performance? 1080p or 1440p are both great resolutions for gaming on a laptop screen. It you're plugging in to an external monitor then its just time to build a desktop rather than spend $4k on a laptop that will have worse performance than a cheaper PC.

    The dream of owning one computer to do everything is just about here. DLSS on a laptop with a high end GPU make it a legitimately useful device to drive a desktop 1440P display. The blade 16 in particular makes a very solid case for itself in this regard because it is thin and light enough to be genuinely useful as a laptop when you are away from the desk and the wall but it is as fast as last gen gaming desktops when you connect it to power. Yes, the price is horrendously high but a two computer setup from last gen to give you the same balance of performance and portability would have cost even more. The simplicity of only requiring one computer is also worth it to a lot of buyers.

    Why did the TimeSpy graphics score change so much between the Titan and Blade 16? That does not make sense. If both are pulling 175W in Timespy, then the Timespy graphics score should be the similar. Did he check the clock speed? Wattage pulled? Maybe drivers were messed up on the Blade 16?
    I am guessing Dave2D used the base Timespy score, not the GPU specific score-because the Timespy CPU score should be higher on the GT77 than on the Blade 16 and this would affect the overall Timespy score. Another possible explanation is that MSI actually overclocked their GPU to go above 175W… or another possible explanation… the Blade 16 didn’t actually maintain 175W of power through the tests. Something is up.
    Dave2D claims a 30-40% bump in performance from a generational perspective, but he is comparing the fastest RTX 3080 TI laptop with a Blade 16.
    Why did he not compare a Titan vs Titan? Comparing generational performance gaps requires two equally high end laptops if you want the data to be accurate. Other reviewers are seeing at 58% performance uplift generation to generation.
