  • Deep locks, sunny days and lots of laughter on our narrowboat Thistle & Rose touring England's Canals & Rivers learning an alternative, quiet lifestyle. We travel Great Haywood and go straight past Stafford and learn that we need to start to stop when get the chance with a long walk back to get some shopping proves why.
    There's a peaceful cruise along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire canal before going under the M6 and showing why you don't moor near a motorway.
    Rob's hasn't a clue where he is or where he's going except that there's a country pub at the end of the day. Whilst Rozzie shows why she's a great navigator and why she didn't grow up on a diary farm.

    M6 yeah know it well... not as big as the bigest car-park in the UK, My hubby always said that the m25 is the biggest carpark in the UK, as he drove it well, when he worked at Heathrow Airport. Now we are living in the lovely Adelaide South Australia... love your vlogs and narrowboat life, keep up the good work, Ralph is so cute...

    Not many canallers visit places near the canals and even fewer take videos of what they saw - so thank you! One of the 'pioeers' of the canals in our lifetime is buried in Peknridge churcyard and probably forgotten. He owned a hire fleet and spent much time and effort in coordinating the boat hire companies and promoting canal boating. He and his wife taught me all I know about the caanal system - for which I am eternally grateful.
    Long since gone , but not forgotten

    One further comment just to add, at the 10:01 mark, you say you can't more there, I would also suggest a couple of scaffold boards, just for those times where you may need to more somewhere like that, also extra pins and line just in case.

    Rozzie, if you see an older man running (fitness fanatic like you) near Wolverhampton on the Stafford & Worcester canal, he lives on a narrowboat with his wife and 3 dogs 😌 I met them three years ago whilst staying nearby! Enjoy and thanks for sharing…

    Just discovered your channel, another one to add to the list of canal vloggers. Loving it so far, you seem like an entertaining couple. Maybe we'll bump into you in a canal pub some time.
    Amused about Mr Cow. Big udders for a lad. Perhaps you need a biology lesson. 😀

    Did you go to ‘Flames’ the Indian Restaurant in Penkridge? We had a Gorgeous Meal in there last September when we did the Black Country Ring. Can’t wait to go there again in a few months when we have another week hire on the Staffs & Worcester

    So I found your channel last night and started watching from the beginning, I haven't seen any newer ones after this so you may by now have a new system for shopping. I highly recommend push bikes, now of course they take up space, you could get a fold up one though. Some people put them on the roof but I know straight away, your fresh new paint won't appreciate that, although there are some small storage boxes/racks for equipment as such which have proven quite common with lots of boaters, that could be something to look into. I would also recommend a pull along trolley, they make them collapsible too, they are fantastic for getting supplies and wheeling them along the tow path, especially in the autum & winter months too with the paths turning to slush. Lastly, what we use to do was tow a canoe, we used that for emptying the toilet, bins and even had a water butt for collecting water, that had a roller bar too so we could walk with it, instead of carrying, that takes many trips to fill the tank though so only used for making drinks and washing up when stuck. Lastly the canoe was also used for shopping, I've seen your list and there's a video about owning a car, I've not got to that yet but you can get deliveries to places if you get the postcode and give clear instructions, like foot path entrances, train stations and car parks, so you could get the delivery to that point, load up the canoe or trolley and take it in one go, saves carrying the bags and losing a few tins in the canal when the bag splits 😂
    That was a long comment but hopefully something either yourselves or another viewer may find useful 😊 Good luck, I'm getting back to watching the video now, you've just got back from a walk to the shops, that's what made me comment 😂

    Understood about the flag being at 1/2 mast, but shouldn't it be a red ensign on a UK registered boat in UK and when flown at the stern?

    • @thenarrowboatgoodlife
      @thenarrowboatgoodlife  Před rokem +1

      You can fly what ever flag you want on a canal boat, they’re not actually registered apart from the canal license. The ensign is more for sea bearing boats/ships. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
