We were driving from New Orleans to Houston to see him in concert, made it 3 hours from home when we got notification that the show was cancelled bc a Tropical Storm turned and was hitting Houston. Never did get to see him. Hopefully soon.

I haven't listened to this vid yet or what your thoughts are on what the song is about yet.. But.. Since I'm close to the top of being the first comments I wanted to hurry up lol.. So the girlfriend in the vid has died. And the singer misses her terribly. The people holding him back are his friends, worried about that he'll do something regrettable (like suicide) to be with the girlfriend he misses.. 😍😍💔💔💔💜💜💜💜
This interpretation had not even occurred to me. I was thinking along the same lines as Jimmy in that they were his subconscious holding him back from going after her because it just wasn't meant to be, but the moment I read your comment it was like a light bulb turning on in my head. It makes so much sense, especially since I always felt that in the other video to this song the man was considering stepping out in front of that train after losing his wife. Thank you for helping me make the connection.
While I like this version of the video, you should really check out the version that has Peter Capaldi in it. Lewis's voice alone can break your heart, but when you add the video with Peter Capaldi as a background to that amazing voice it will literally wrench your heart out of your chest. It's that powerful and moving.
