    I was super impressed with the climb rate I achieved with the 303 flying tandem. With my weight of 155lbs and Ethan at 220lbs, our take off was quick and the climb out was comfortable. This is exactly what I wanted to achieve with this upgrade. Look forward to more of this trike!

    Tucker, your way with passengers is great. You're straight forward with them, give them calm, clear guidance, and get them involved in the flying experience. Classy all the way.
    I also like your systematic approach to diagnosing issues, plus leaving good safety margin when in a new situation (weight, climb rate), with new equipment, or directly following a repair.

  • @RustyCyler
    @RustyCyler Před 2 lety +11

    Hey everyone. I've been watching Tucker for years now and have wondered why we've never seen any carb jetting issues. This is the typical jetting problems that we 2-strokers deal with. Its NOT a big deal, you learn how to re-jet. In the ATV world we re-jet everytime the weather gets really cold or really warm, or if we're riding in a new area with a big elevation difference. So air temps and elevation are the two big jetting factors, we also have to consider the fuel type and the fuel mix ratio. Its not that hard to re-jet, some guys HATE the process, others enjoy the challenge of achieving perfect jetting. Wish you had Kehein carb brand instead.

    • @SmittySmithsonite
      @SmittySmithsonite Před 2 lety +2

      I used to be afraid of it as a teenager - heard all the horror stories from guys who didn't know what they were doing melting their engines down. I was so broke, that was like staring down the barrel of a loaded 12 gauge, lol! 35 years later, it's about the easiest thing in the world to do. Now I have an ear for it. As long as it's not too far lean or too far rich, you can tell exactly what the engine wants. Sometimes when too far in either direction, the engine will sound similar. Usually the smoke plume on a premixed machine is the giveaway that it's in the rich direction. If I had my way, I'd have a V8 2-stroke in my truck, lol. 😄

    • @joesterling4299
      @joesterling4299 Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for explaining. But even ignoring the jetting issue, it seems to me the engine was not quite ready for prime time out of the box. Tucker is experienced and skilled. He can land safely with an engine out, and he can do proper engine surgery. He also has good contacts in the industry. That's not the case for the average user, I don't think. So I find the issues concerning.

    • @SmittySmithsonite
      @SmittySmithsonite Před 2 lety +1

      @@joesterling4299 Indeed. They definitely rushed this unit out the door long before it was ready. This is going to kill a large chunk of sales. They’re going to regret this decision. Especially Polini’s tactic of blaming the end user for the problems initially. Big mistake! Going to hurt them in the long run.

      It’ll be interesting to see if reliability problems or major failure occurs with this engine. Water cooled and using LL or VLL means the engine must be tuned, monitored and operated a bit differently than with the air cooled engines.

    Seems pretty ridiculous Polini is shipping engines that need all of these upgrades to run properly.
    Seriously, if you know switching to 100LL causes it to run rich then why not mention it when ordering all the other fixes.
    At the very least it should be mentioned when buying that this could be a concern depending on your location and let the buyer decide. For those not in the know, it takes weeks to get parts sometimes and with all of the world events it's even less predictable right now.

      Hi Richard. Jetting a motor is dependent on a few things, like the customers elevation and ambient temperature. All customers need to adjust/re-jet their carb's jetting for their situation. Its just part of the experience of owning a high performance 2 stroke motor.

  • @rjc862003

    with a jetted carb you need to be mindful of outside air-temp and altitude as well there is a huge difference between it being 30 degrees out and 50 or 60 as it gets warmer it will go richer and as you climb higher it again gets richer but also potentially colder and thus effectively denser air to a point at least

  • @Jimmy-ry1sc

    The title of the video was how much power is too much power? I missed that in the video. For me, power represents climb rate in feet per minute/meters, fuel burn rate, ground speed, etc. Your videos are helpful and well done. I have viewed many videos featuring various para motors and have only seen the ground speed given once. Anyway, thank you for the great video's.

    im not sure if this goes for carburators on paramotors the same way it does on 2 stroke mopeds, but that jet looks very familiar, and with moped jets you dont want to force screw them into your carburator so hard. its like with sparkplugs, a little tight is tight enough

    I wanted to suggest trying to build sometype of flowtacion device for paramotor or trike setup for water. After watching vid of guy who landed in pond or lake it sounds like there is nothing on the market right now. Or a quick release mechanism for letting go of gear if landing in water or it could be a container attached to the equipment that opens up if sensor gets wet. Like like on cruise ships. Sensor senses being underwater and raft is automatically inflated. Maybe all these ideas are to heavy and that is why there is nothing out there on the market. You would be the man to find out, and inform us .

    the newer version Triox 2 now has wiglets to prevent pendulation issues the triox 1 can bring. polini 303 initial release has detonation issues, polini sends a new carb needle to run more rich plus a larger intake screen as well as a new head for lower compression ratio to eliminate known detonation issue causing hole in piston or seizure. now it seems tuckers update kit (new carb needle) has it running too rich, so looks like the carb needle is making it too rich and have to make a jet swap as well, so now I will assume polini will send correct jet along with new needle any known detonation issues I would recommend always use high octane fuel like 100 octane or higher

    It's surprising that paramotor engines are still carby shod instead of injected , since injection on 2 stroke dirt bikes is fairly common place these days .

    That rmz 500 has me wondering about a 503 or 582. How big can you go and still get a tandem paramoter exemption?

      The Eco 2 with the RMZ500 is right on the edge of 103 limits.

      @@TuckerGott is tandem allowed for anything falling under 256 pounds or is it for paramoter only? I realize a paramoter is the lightest option, but I'm thinking it is the only option to fly tandem without sport pilot license. I also know tandem requires an exemption for training. I'm wanting to teach a passenger how to go paramoter camping, lol.

    How do you determine the jet size???

    • @Robnord1
      @Robnord1 Před 2 lety

      Just like Tucker is doing it...Start with standard jetting, then make small, incrimental changes to optimize performance. In aircraft with a CHT (cylinder head temp) gauges, cool=rich and hot=lean.

    Tucker,
    You need to warm the engine completely, or you risk what is known as a "cold seizure". Water cooled 2-strokes are particularly susceptible to this if care isn't taken. Does the motor have a thermostat in the cooling system?
    If so, what can happen is this: you warm the engine and think it is up to temperature. Then you apply full throttle for takeoff. The piston starts expanding. The water jacket thermostat then opens fully, and cool water surrounds the cylinder, causing it to shrink, as the piston continues to expand. This can cause the piston to start contacting the cylinder walls with increasing friction, and lead to a seizure.

      Here's what to look for, if you have a water temp gauge. As you warm the engine, watch the gauge carefully. You should see the temp start to rise It may then stop rising for a short period. But if there is a thermostat in the cooling system, the thermostat may still be mostly closed. Keep warming the engine, and watching the temp gauge. When the thermostat opens completely, you should see the temp gauge drop slightly, then slowly come back up as all the coolant in the system comes up to temp. When this happens, the engine should be fully warmed.
      This is how those of us who fly ultralights and lightsport aircraft with Rotax 582 engines warm them up. And it works well for us.
