    I've been creating graffiti since the late 1970s. Born and raised in Philly when graffiti was just getting big. I've learned so much in that time. This cat has a lot of knowledge for being so young. Many of the guys I grew up with gave up on graffiti. I always had a natural ability with art so I stuck with it to this day. No not on walls like I did as a teen. I do a lot on VR which is amazing. But nothing like throwing pen to paper or brush to canvas. Much respect for your videos.

    Ive spent the last 2 months drawing evwry night, starting with the same straight letter basic style. Now using the same line order i have made 3 unique and consistent styles for straight letters. All thanks ton watching this channel. Now i really need to apply my self to highlights , shadows and different fill patterns.

    My man Grim this video felt so personal for me, I been struggling on how to practice efficiently to get better at graffiti, did it as a kid 15 years ago but like you said life kinda pulled me from it, been back at it (just legal) for maybe 8 months and you been like a teacher. Guilty of biting other styles but after this video you dumb it down so good that I know how to practice the basics and I'll try not to bite anymore. Thanks a lot for everything you do for this culture and teaching the next generation.

    Thing about repetitive styles is it’s mainly used as a staple for Bombing and getting your name up alot. Mainly with simple str8 letter get ups, this applies for throwies to. You can have multiple styles but I suggest newer writers to stick with one simple style. It’s also easy to freestyle something you repeat consistently

    • @Theartistblock
      @Theartistblock  Před rokem +5

      Yea I mention that in the vid, how positive artist habits establish your style. Also, throws and tags are more used as an icon or logo , where there whole purpose is to be recognized so those are meant to stay the same. Knowing that, I shouldn't have shown any tags or throws in this video 😆

    Sorry Grim, I’m really knew to graffiti but I’d really like to improve. In your videos you always mention how beginners should study the letter structures and the fundamentals. My question might be really fucking dumb but, how do I do that? How do I study the fundamentals? I mean I watched all of the videos in your playlist about the basics of graff, but now? Is there any book I should get? Any exercise to improve my letter structure? Sorry for the long comment but I’d really enjoy some help (P.S. my budget is kinda low so I can’t buy any really expensive books)

    i’ve always gone by danger online and it’s kind of a second name to me but i’ve realised its somewhat difficult with such a long name, especially while i’m still starting out. i tried to go by DNGR but i don’t like the way it looks in both my tags and my very limited ability to do a throw up

    • @Theartistblock
      @Theartistblock  Před rokem +3

      Keep in mind you're still new, any name is going to be hard for you and if you find a name that you think is easy then all that's really happening is you're not realizing your mistakes. Use the name you initially chose, Danger. It's a perfectly fine name, you just have to practice and study.

    Question1: 4:32 The simple, nothing fancy piece you mention (show) is pretty advanced. Can I go much simpler than that, lets say something like a simple block-style? (your looks like a wild style and I am not that far)
    Question2: 4:48 what do you mean by using 1-Box or 2-Box?
    Thanks in advance ! :-)

    • @Theartistblock
      @Theartistblock  Před rokem +2

      Lol I totally should have found something slightly simpler, something without the bent paper and shading, even weight distribution and that would have been more appropriate. With that said it's far from a wild style, it's a straight letter no doubt about that.
      As for the second question, all letters are made from basic boxes ( I have a tutorial on this topic) and the examples at 4:48 show an R with a rounded 1 box bowl (rounded top portion) followed by a more triangular two box bowl.

    what if there are two identical letters like if I write my name jaydee I'm sorry I'm just asking because I'm a newbie

    • @Theartistblock
      @Theartistblock  Před rokem +1

      Not a problem at all buddy, that's what we're here for. For duplicate letters like your double E you can make them the same for the piece you're working on but there are many e structures so maybe in your next piece you use a different kind of E. With all of that said, you're not going to have style at the moment, no amature artist in any artform has style, it's not possible so right now ( in your practice) all of your work will be basic and simple with repeated structures because you'll be using basic print font structures
