DAY 1 of Beginner EPIC | No Equipment Lower Body Workout

- Here we go! Day 1 in the EPIC Beginners Series for those of you wanting to progress to the full EPIC Program! We are starting with a full lower body workout lasting 30 minutes.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a series of workouts aimed as an introduction to the Epic Programs.
If you are a complete beginner to resistance training and have access to dumbbells at home or the gym, you might like to consider the Ultimate Beginner Program, which is a 6 week series where I talk throughout the workout to help provide cues and guide you with main considerations to then allow you to explore variations that feel best for you, your biomechanics and preference! For details on this series you can visit www.cgxapp.com. I would recommend to trail the app for 2 weeks to make sure if is a good fit for you!
This is a no-equipment workout however, you will need a wall, a sturdy chair and a mat.
Squats, lunges, holds, and of course wall sits in there too make this an EPIC beginner leg workout! This is a fantastic workout to gut your hamstrings, quads, glutes and core with just your bodyweight as resistance!
Remember to work at your own pace! You can go slower, you can even go faster if you feel like it.. just maintain form and alignment!
Please ensure you warm up for at least 5 minutes prior to beginning. (See link below for my new warm up routine)
I’m sure you will challenge yourself and feel the intensity as much as I did!!
Let’s smash it!!

Wow. I consider myself quite fit. I've been doing two people's routines on CZcams regularly. I've just had a month off and started this as I thought it would be easy. I was 10 minutes in and got up to collapse on the floor my legs spasming and cramping , I feel sick too. Unbelievable. I always thought half an hour wasn't long enough how wrong was I. Great workout thank you
Right!
It so hard work but Amazing After completing it thanks
Did you redo it eventually and finished it or?
@@simone1060 I did. But the EPIC workouts aren't for me too many parts to an exercise I've gone back to doing JW
@@petebuck9889 jw? I think they are great I only prefer to do exercise as a whole I don't have a leg day just some leg exercises so I really noticed that....
Can we just appreciate how Caroline Girvan has made this whole program free?? So gratefull!
Yes! Very very kind of her
Yes, I am grateful!
Oh we can! I’m only here because I was sick of looking for an app that wasn’t subscription only (I only wanted to record my workouts). But this is much better…especially on a Vr headset:)
Amen!!
Yes but she gets paid as well though CZcams which is a win win for us and her 🤩

Well, it took me 12 days of taking this video in chunks, but I finally was able to complete it from beginning to end. Feels amazing!

Good job not giving up, very proud!!!
Does anyone know for how many weeks we do the beginner series?
Proud of you! It ain’t easy
I’m going to have to do the same 😭
I legitimately gave up during the bulgarian lunge. But then I scrolled down and read everyones comments and knowing how hard everyone else had tried made me keep going. And guess what - I just finished!! so who ever is reading this - you can do itttt!
your comment helped me a lot.i gave up after 10 minutes but then i scroll down and i saw your comment!and i want to say to other people who will read this.Yes,its true, you can do it!
Yeah but also know that it is not always worth it to push through something that seems too hard. It may result in an extreme multi day soreness that will keep you from exercising at least half a week. And that will ultimately impede your fitness goals, because consistency is key. Sometimes it's better to leave it at 70% effort but still be able to exercise the next day.
Me too. I started looking for a video on the bulgarian lounge- should be easier.
This is happening to me right now!!! Thank you for the motivation!
I just finish my first epic beginner , I am really out fit but I will try you motivate me 😀

Things like this are always so helpful for people who have to modify and like to slightly plan ahead! That's me! I'm that type! I have to modify certain moves because of a mutated gene that affect my bones. So thank you so much!
this is my first time doing this workout. Whenever I feel like giving up I look at this comment and think to myself, I know those moves, Ive done them before and I can do them now
Re-starting your series for 2023. This is anything but beginner. But, I hung on. 💪🏽
It's a beginner video compared to her epic series. Those are brutal.
@@haralsonkaylak care to share about the changes in your life after doing the epics?
I just had a baby so I’m hoping the epics will get me back in shape 😊
@Klaudii they will get you back into shape. They are similar exercises to the beginner series, just longer and have weights. Her videos just make me feel like i can accomplish anything. They give me energy and make me feel great in my skin.Good luck with your life change.

Let’s do this guys!
Loved it.
I just started yesterday & my legs are like jelly. 😂 But dam I feel good! 😁
This is Day 1 of me doing this challenge. I was only able to get through the first 7 mins. I haven’t worked it in years and I want to get stronger. I’m going to work at my own pace and prioritize consistency over perfection. The journey begins. I’ll come back in a 6 months to update my progress.
Good luck I’m starting this too

You can do it !
How is it going?
I've started yesterday, and I've never done anything before. I shall follow your mantra of consistency and report too!
Just turned 70 and opting for a more healthy and fit life. For a beginners programme I thought this was magnificent - my knees may not agree, but I held strong and finished and will definitely keep going. What a great workout and the fact that it is free is just phenomenal. Thank you so much
You're amazing, good on you!
Does anyone know for how many weeks we do the beginner series? I'm 57 and new to working out.
@@lf9341 I would guess as long as you will need to become comfortable with the exercises. Do the whole video while feeling fine.
Wow
so proud of myself! Im recovering from anorexia and want to do better for my body and mind. WOW I am sweating so hard and I can't believe I completed the entire thing without giving up!
WELL DONE. I'M SO SO SOOOOO PROUD OF YOUUUU❤️❤️
Yes you! You are beautiful! Keep thriving and striving :)
you can do it! go Kendra!
You go gorgeous girl you got this ❤️❤️
I hope you see this because I am recovering from anorexia also and I definitely want to do the best for my body and mind too. Because of quarantine I'm all cooped up at home and I honestly feel the need to exercise and move around, so I look online for workout videos but most of them are really triggering. But I've found that Caroline's videos do a lot to help me get some activity into my day without triggering me because (a) her energy is so positive and (b) the people in the comments are also so positive. just wanted to say there's a fellow recovering from ED that exists >.<
Keep it up and take good care of yourself

this was just what I needed 😂 thank you!!
I did till sumo squat but lung hold is impossible now 😢
First Day of my Second Round to this begginer series
I started Caroline videos the beginning of 2023 for about 3 months I had great results but I fell off the wagon but I’m BACK and excited 😊 Thanks Caroline for these amazing workout videos I’m so ready to get back FIT
I'm 58 years old. I've lost 17 pounds so far. I'm glad I found this series for beginners.! I want to get strong! 😀
what omg!
wow, this comment is very encouraging!
I am 51 and never exercised - have been doing Caroline's for 13 days now, very challenging but I decide to keep gong...
Thank you. I’m 63 and used to be fit. Not so much this past year and it is time to begin. I got whooped in 10 minutes. If you can do this so will I.
You all got me excited to try this. I am 56 (in 3 weeks sniff sniff) and want to be more fit. My goal is to become more solid. Starting tomorrow at beginner Day 1. Wish me luck!!
These may be “beginner” moves but they’re absolutely killer! I could not hold that lunge for even 10 seconds
My lower body is super weak, so in order to last the 30 seconds I just did a less deep lunge. I know this reply is late, but might benefit someone else!
@@andrearefojos4844 a less deeper lunge may put weight on the knees tho.. be careful
Our definitions of “beginner” are not close to the same. I was six minutes in already sweaty and shaken. I collapsed at 26 min full leg spasms and feeling like a complete loser. Angry at myself for thinking I was somewhat in shape only to literally get my legs taken out from under me on day 1. Thanks for the reality check.
you are not alone
I had to come to the comments because I refused to believe it was just me. I think my legs took leave and I barely got 15 minutes in. 😂. I came back after an hour to finish it and my legs were still laughing at me 🤣
I do very hard hot yoga, cycling, and weight training. I saw this workout and was almost worried it would be too easy since it was a "beginner" series. This workout kicked my BUTT, my legs were giving out after the first quarter. Can't wait to follow through this program! Thanks for making this free and accessible.
To anyone feeling intimidated/discouraged by this: stick with it! I finished my fourth run-through today (not quite ready for Epic yet) and I saw definite strength gains my third time; the fourth one was even more noticeable. I fell out of fitness for a few years and this is the first program that actually makes me look forward to training again. Caroline: you are the real deal, thank you for everything you do.
I'm starting tomorrow.
@@MARINALOVEDSK1 we’re in this together. I’ve just finished this day 1💪🏻

I found you yesterday Caroline and thought I'd try out this workout this morning. I"m 60 and consider myself fit. I've been doing Shaun T's Max 30 for the past 9 years and I've found recently the constant jumping isn't for me anymore. Your workout kicked m butt. I loved it. Your videos are so professional, your smiley face keeps me going and the moves are doable, albeit I need to adapt or slow down for my pace. I'm now a fan and will continue to do the rest of your beginners routines until I feel ready to move on. Thank you so much for providing such a valuable service. You rock girl!
Thank you Caroline Girvan in taking the time to record & upload this for us.
Very nice of you to do so.

Thanks again, Caroline 🙂
Those beeps at the end of each exercise are the longest and most satisfying three seconds of my life haha
Yes!!!
I've been doing a lot of workouts with CZcams videos so far, but this is the first time I'm leaving a comment. I've fallen in love with this video. I'm doubting its level is beginner😅 From the first few minutes, I couldn't feel my legs anymore. I couldn't perform all the moves because I'm not physically prepared at all, but I went as far as I could. The enjoyable pain has embraced my entire lower body, and I love this pain. Thanks for everything!♥️
I don't know what kind of voodoo magic Caroline is employing here, but a week ago, when I first did this video, I could barely do 15 sec of the squat holds. Now, just a week later, I could do the full 45 sec on both legs. I am beyond happy to see such progress in my strength and ability. This is a great program and I can't wait to continue on to the other epic series
Caroline, I do apologize for all the mean things I said during this workout. I honestly did not mean them. An awesome workout, but it clearly showed me where my weaknesses are: left leg (old knee injury), core and hip flexibility. Looking forward to making those my strenghts with your programme!
This workout is perfect for any lockdown situation and should be advertised by every health authority globally, because you cant go anywhere for days afterwards ... ;-)

Hello everyone. I'm Tanya. I live in Russia. Today I did my first workout. I'm dead. I thought 30 minutes meant nothing, but I was wrong. It's just tin. 30 minutes seemed like an eternity. At 10 minutes, my legs were shaking like jelly. I was very surprised, but I still did all the exercises. Really slowly, very slowly. I've mastered the whole workout. At the end, I wanted to cry my eyes out. Legs now refuse to walk at all. I'm like a squeezed lemon. But it was worth it. Thank you so much for sharing this for free. I can feel the fat melting inside me. Thanks. I will cry my eyes out, but I will finish all the training. And I think that I will be engaged in a program for beginners for a month, and maybe more. When I feel ready, I'll start epic. Thank you so much again❤️❤️❤p.s. Please create training sessions for beginners of level - 1000. Thank you 🙏

well, she is pretty advance, so all this videos are easy for her.
Anyone else here because of Linda Sun?? And she was was completely right too, this was lethal in the best way possible!
I started this series today because I want to finally get fit and exercise regularly. I'm 22 and have never in my life worked out consistently for more than four weeks at a time, so I really am quite unfit... Had to take a longer break halfway through and I'm dripping with sweat, but I'm determined to keep following this routine and make working out a habit.
Thank you for providing this great content for free Caroline! 😊
These videos are amazing, I love that there’s no motivational chatter throughout, and free?!? Wow! That being said, I have never been more unfit or heavier in my entire life. I have 80+lbs to lose. This will get me there (along with diet and cardio, of course). I am determined to keep chipping away at these “beginner” (I can’t say that without laughing…these are intense and very much for fit people who know what they’re doing!) sessions until I can do each video all the way through as intended. It very well may take me all year, no exaggeration. But by next year, maybe I’ll be ready for EPIC I. Thank you, CG!
50 years old, I'm pretty fit, but thought I'd start with the beginner i.e. NOT the EPIC, so glad I did, I was shaking half way through. Caroline, thank you for making all of this free. Your positive energy and excellent workout is just what I needed!
I can relate so badly, I wasn't even halfway through and shaking terribly thinking "Which part of this is beginner?" lol
“15 secs rest” in between, but I need like 15 years rest in between 😂
Thank you Caroline for the wonderful work out❤️
THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER WORKOUT- And I love it! I thought I would get back into my routine "slowly" but boy was I wrong and I am so happy for it. This workout made me feel like I still got it. Finished it with only a few modifications, but so easy to do. Got my heart pumping without any weights. So so so excited to get back into fitness again. Thank you for the awesome program Caroline!

Anyone who starts with beginner, do not be scared to continue with day 6 once you are done with beginner. You get strong as you go on. I was scared but I am now over half way and I am thankful I did not talk myself out of pushing through . Take it a day at a time and enjoy the journey. It’s hard but not impossible.

The first time I did this workout I ended up being in pain from soreness for about a week. After 5/6 times of doing it I finally got through without breaks or modifications, and it feels great! Thanks Caroline!
I'm 59 years old and have not been exercising, I'm going to have to do the beginners series a few weeks before I can move on. This is an amazing workout , Thank you!

I’ve told you this before that I’m an Iron Man finisher times two, and I am starting this program November 1 thank you for keeping it online. You are one tough cookie ma’am ! I plan on sticking with this for the month of November. Any support from anyone would be welcomed with open arms. I have to do this I am 66 and ready to retire in February. I made a promise to myself I would complete this 30 day beginner program. Thank you for sharing your message and offering your soft, down to earth words of encouragement.
My fourth week of doing this series has just started and I just completed this workout without any extra breaks for the first time! Considering I've never really worked out before and always been awfully weak - zero stamina, always dead last at p.e. classes, etc., it's a HUGE achievement for me, haven't felt so proud of myself since forever to be quite honest. Thank you so much Caroline, the challenge is absolutely worth it!
Does anyone know for how many weeks we do the beginner series? I'm 57 and new to working out.
@@lf9341 As many as you need/want to. Heck, if this is the only one of Caroline's programs you ever do, it's still a great workout! This is my fourth time doing this one, I want to try some of her other series but want to work some more on stamina and form first.
Just finished day 1. It went by much faster than I thought it would! I'm excited to continue with the program. Currently weight: 154. First goal: 139. Final goal: 125. I'm 5'4"
Those are precisely my figures too funnily enough! I'm curious to know how you got on, one year later? 🤔
I'm fresh out of the shower having just completed the whole of the EPIC Beginner program. Here are some of my thoughts:
DAY 1 - Lower Body - I found that I'm very unstable during lunges. I only managed to do half of this whole workout too. Was wondering what I got myself into. Everyone loves leg day!
DAY 2 - Upper Body - don't remember having too many issues with this one.
DAY 3 - AB & Core - I seem to have shortened hamstrings. I can't straighten my legs when doing toe reaches or v-sits. This has always been a problem for me but I'm hopìng more stretching will help.
DAY 4 - Dumbbell Full Body - I used 2 x 5kg dumbbells and managed to keep up so will up this to 10kg in future. Still a good workout though.
DAY 5 - Full Body HIIT - burpees. Oh, how I love you. Managed to do 3 per 20 seconds by the end. The lunges were what I struggled with the most. Losing balance a lot. I'm hoping that balance will come with practice.
I started this program because I wanted to see if I could commit to a regular workout schedule which would be the case if I had a gym membership. It's only been one week, of course, but I got into the routine of doing the workout in the morning before jumping in the shower and going about my day. I planned my rest days to be Thursday and Sunday this week and I'll probably stick to that going forward.
I'm intending to redo this program at least once more to improve my technique in the various exercises and if I can manage another week of sticking to it regularly then I'll move on to EPIC I. Loved it.
have ou started epic 1 ? how is it going ? also congrats on doing this :))
@@em.fuglsang, yes I'm on week 4 of EPIC 1. Finding it a good workout and enjoying it a lot.
I did raise a question last week but no one has replied yet. There was a need for a glute band for one of the days but I don't want to buy a band if it was just a one off. I'm waiting to hear if there are more days that require this band.
Are you in the midst of the Beginner workouts? How are you finding it?
I got through 8 min. Will try again. Might look like Day 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4... for me

I repeat this programme before I start each new EPIC. Not 100% sure why anymore - after 3 EPICs I kind of know what to expect, but I think it may be because going back to basics really humbles me and reminds me how important form is, as well as how challneging a movement can be if you take it as far as possible.
Thanks again, Caroline!
Much love from South Africa

OMG! I did this series once already and then in my absolute ignorance, on day 6 I thought I'd try a CG HIIT. 10 minutes in and I collapsed in a mess on the floor. So this week I am back to this "beginner" epic. Next week too. Sometimes you have to go back to go forward... Maybe by July I will get to manage a HIIT by this machine lady :)
Perfect workout for when you are travelling and don’t have access to weight and you are short on time. Loved it
My second day doing this one. I couldn't finish it the first round exactly a week ago. Made it almost to the end, but I was so shaky and nauseous I had to throw in the towel.
I intended to do the rest of the series last week, but my legs and glutes were so sore I could barely move for 5 days 😅 and I was still tender day 6!
Today is day 7, tenderness gone, so I figured it was safe to torture myself again. This time I made it through the entire video and was able to hold longer or ad another rep.
Hoping I won't be as sore this week so I can do others in this so called "beginner's" series 😅
Thanks for a great workout Caroline ❤ 😊
I'm not gonna lie. I needed a lot of break to finish. I hope 3 month later I'll do it one straight
I was the same :)
These videos are done very well. Not too much talking, visual timer for exercises as well as entire routine, no annoying personality, well demonstrated exercises, good music audio. A great work out.
2nd attempt at Epic Beginner did much better than the first time. Thank you Caroline. I'm so motivated by you and also everyone attempting your programmes
Started last year with this and made it about 1/3 through Epic 1. Starting over from scratch this year and it’s as fun as ever. Goal: complete Epic 2 in June. 💪🏼🏆 Let’s go!
My gosh! You kicked my ass! I'v been training for 5 years, but this workout was hard! Best lower body workout ever, thank you, Caroline!
Day 1 in the books! Great workout, can’t wait for more. BTW: just so you know, I am a guy and I have been doing your workouts for a month and I already have results! Thanks Caroline! You’re killing it (and me)!
So, so happy I came across your channel! I finally found a basic Monday to Friday workout that is simple. I am determined to make these structured workouts a part of my morning routine. I am in the process of making some much needed adjustments I’m my life. I am in my 40’s and I am now learning what’s it’s like to start putting myself first. To anyone who has struggled with “self” you are not alone on this journey through life. Best of luck sweet Caroline to you and your family. I will give an update on my progress in a few weeks. Love from the United States!
a big thank you and hug caroline , i was shaking and sweating throughout the whole workout but as soon as it ended i was like is it over already . thats how much fun it was .
thankyou so much for providing such a fun thing for free.
This was a great workout! I got all the way through it! I’m just starting back into working out and I love your videos- the fact that you aren’t constantly talking or saying what to do and just have the perfect music to the exercises makes me come back for more! I’m a fan and a follower! Thank you
I am so excited to do this program. I am very much a newbie and don’t even really know proper form on some of these moves. However I love that this is a fully structured program and you’re offering it FOR FREE 😳🥰. There’s even a 30 page guide to the two 10 week programs (which will probably be more like 20 weeks each for me 🙃). Thank you so much Caroline. 🥰
Please people don’t skip the ads on her video. Help her out as she will hopefully help so many of us.
A big thank you for providing such a great content for free Caroline... I managed to take it till 17 mins.. I collapsed down with legs and hand cramps. Who ever are reading this, you're not alone... even I couldn't complete the whole video at my first try. Practice makes a man perfect... lets do it
I barely got ten minutes in before I felt like I couldn’t walk. It’s been a while since I’ve done workouts heh I’m going to try again tomorrow :) thank you for the inspiring comments and the amazing workout.
So glad I started the beginner version of this workout! I tried the non beginner one last week and realized pretty quickly that I was pushing myself too hard; unable to complete each exercise with good form. Got a little ahead of myself. This beginner program is right where I need to be. Thanks so much, Caroline!
Just started my 3rd week of Beginners and I feel so much stronger in my day to day, my endurance during the workouts has also improved! 🙏 I can also see a difference in the mirror and how my clothes fit! If this is possible after just two weeks of Beginners I can’t wait to see what happens with Epic! 🔥 thank you for so generously sharing this with the world! 🙏🥰
I’m on my 3rd day and loving your videos! I enjoy following a routine each day, different body parts and exercises change it up a bit. Your amazing for making these free! Thank you! 💕 💪🏼
You're probably the only creator whose workouts I can't finish all of the time, they're so deceptively difficult 😅 and I'm no athlete but I'm pretty active. this kicked my butt so hard I sat down at one point and knew I wouldn't be continuing lol. Next time! Thanks for always giving us something challenging Caroline!
Hey I loved the idea of having this percentage tracking icon showing how far we go and in the same time how close we are to the end (to the happiness as you have said). While the battery (not sure how to call it :D) was filling up i was draining out and find this super motivating, i know it sounds contradictory, but I hope you will understand me! As always I loved the work out! I felt it in my muscles! Thank you for being such a great example of dedication and consistence!
Yours,
Reni
I started the EPIC program today. Just completed Day 1 of the Beginner and I am MUSH, can't walk, can't stand, even my arms are jelly and I'm a little sick. Can't imagine how I will feel tomorrow or the next day, all I know is that I will continue and I will complete the EPIC program. To all of you that are doing it, kudos to you I'm right behind you.
Oh my! I was not physically prepared for this but I’ve been thinking about it for many months. Just finished the video and I can barely stand but I LOVE how challenging and simple it is. I can see how being physically fit is crucial for long term mobility. I will keep going!!
Caroline - thank you. This is my first day with EPIC Beginners Series and I made it through it. A start of a journey and I appreciate your help in making this video. Greetings from Dublin...........Ohio, USA.
Mother of 2 who hats woking out but today I stated your EPIC 49 days challenge! Excited and can't wait to see my before/after picture. Thank you for doing this!!
I am so THANKFUL that I found your channel!!! You my dear are a absolute godsend!! I am a beginner on this journey and am so GLAD that I found your channel!! Thank you for making working out something I look forward to. I’m two weeks in and I have never felt more better about myself. Your workouts are easy to follow along and I love the timer!! I’m looking forward to tagging along on this 10 week journey. Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!
I made it through the whole workout!! I had to modify a couple of exercises but I did it!
Mz Baker Get after it!
Love this lower body workout! Keep coming back to it! I’m a 63 yr old woman and trying to get fit again and this is great for legs and glutes!
I definitely stopped to stretch several times during this one, and I consider"ed" myself somewhat fit! I felt so proud of myself for completing the more challenging chair moves. Thank you Caroline!
Going to do this before dinner later on. Thank you once again for this. My goal is to get in shape for an event in October... Good luck to everyone else and I hope you all achieve your goals 🤞🏾
Thanks Devi, good luck also to you!!!!
I started this series today and I’ve been a person who has been always into some or the other Exercise/Fitness regime may it be playing Basketball or just running. Last 2 years have been tough on me and I’ve tried many workouts and failed miserably and gained weight excessively. I’ve started therapy 2 months back and I’m exercising after 5 whole months. It’s been tough to get my life around and fight my inner critical voice but I did it. I pushed through your workout :)
Just want to let you know that if you are reading this Caroline, you’re making a difference. I hope I adhere to this and finish all the workouts. Can’t wait to test my myself :)
I found this to start my journey back to me and who I used to be. I love it and appreciate you . So grateful I found this program. Love everything I timed❤
Just did first day today. Tomorrow I work full day, so will try early morning 🙏🙏 not a quitter . Have lost so far 25 lbs and want to get toned now
So I’m 50 I’ve been working out since I was 20. And I am so pleased at how challenging this was. Definitely incorporating this in my workout routine. Those single legs sit downs........yeah couldn’t do it. Have much work to do in my quads. Thanks!!!!!
I've been working out regularly with you for a while now. then I stopped in the beginning of September (exams and uni projects 😭) . and here I'm back now. This was amazing and painful 😅 i can't feel my legs. I couldn't do the two first chair workouts I had no strength but I did everything else and I'm hella proud. Thank you so much Caroline
Fantastic Chahrazad!! Thrilled you back at it and feeling awesome for it!! 👊🏼👊🏼💓
I’m 53 and have been somewhat active and started following you workouts , I did it !!! I’m going to do them on a regular basis, thank you, you are an inspiration!!
