- newly acquired cl motor. 1972 johnson 20 hp. starts uber easy. i still need to fine tune this motor. runs pretty good and pumps water like a race horse.

It’s not stupid, it’s a good motor no shortage of balls for a 20
Could you please tell me whats the name and purpose of the small tube that comes from the cylinder (next to the fuel pump but on the other cylinder) to the intake side? (Mine is leaking and spits - maybe unburnt fuel?)
Sounds good. Good job!
I had the same pullcord problem, was fishing one day went to start it and that happend. looks good sounds good nice vid man
i ended up replacing the cord. also got the motor to run much better. installed a 25hp carb and now its a beast!
Cant wait for summer this year . hopefully fuel goes back down.
forgot to mention the lower units are prone to water intrusion. how is the gear oil in your lower unit? a reseal job is pretty easy. you will need a couple of tools tho. gear/seal puller, and a spade bit turned upside down to remove the shift seal.
How much
It was sold years ago.
whats funny, is the 1997 four stroke i have, is basically like the old 50's style. just plastic. btw i use a dewalt, 1/2" heavy duty 20v 3.5mha cordless drill. its the only drill i found that wont blow up turning motors lol. just be sure to wear safety glasses, the sockets sometimes fly off when the motor decides to fire.
thanks. took some work.
thanks. check out the vid of me running the motor on the water. scary fast :) and gobs of torque
I have the exact same outboard, can you tell me if its ment to pump water when on idle, i have just acquired mine and it doesn't seem to.. :)
Yeah, a buddy of mine uses a drill to start his motor as well...and he had the socket fly off and hit him in the face, anyway...thanks for the reply...take care... :-)
the water pump is rather robust and you should have a lot of water coming out. there is no pee hole, so the water will exit the exhaust port. a round hole in the back of the leg.
I (HATE) Johnson's pitiful excuse for a pull cord rewind assembly...I can't stand putting the aggrivating coil spring into place...I gave up & bought myself a cordless, battery powered impact drill & I put myself a socket on it big enough to fit the nut on the flywheel & Now I have electric start ...lol...I would just wrap the cord around flywheel but ive had the cord catch the flywheel and wrap around my arm...not fun & very dangerous...anyway Nice Vid...keep making them
Just a shot of WD40 will take care of the pull cord 😂
