👍, good looking 20. I believe it was that lead shot. what you pulled out of there was nowhere near a factory part. it looked like someone had melted a big piece of lead in there, and for it to wrap around the needle valve like that was crazy. you probably have/had small pieces of it floating around in there, probably every time you turned that needle valve the threads were shredding more of the lead off. unbelievable . hope you got it all out
The procedure I have read about is to turn in idle screw all the way in gently then back out 1 1/2 turns,(mine is set about 1 3/4 out) then slowly turn in 1/8 turns at a time and listen for rpm change while keeping motor barely running and you may get to a point where it stalls. Then start backing out doing same thing and you should find the "sweet spot" where it idles best.Do not do this on muffs. You should be at least in a tank or out on the water in gear.My motor did not like being on muffs to tune without the back pressure of the water and it would "lean sneeze" and miss.Having a tach on the motor helps also.Hope this helps.
I'm getting a little bit of a miss at full throttle any advice? Checked fuel lines for any air getting sucked in ran some seafoam through it, just can't figure it out... I'm not very mechanically inclined on outboard motors.. please help lol.. also has new spark plugs
anon nona What model motor? How old is it.?Does it have a primer on it?I would give it a complete carb clean first and clean it again to be sure since Sea foam won't really unclog those small passage ways, but I doubt that is problem, but you never know.Could be bad plug wire or a coil breaking down.If it is old get some new plug wire and make new wires since this is a cheap part to replace.Have you looked at your plugs to see what they look like new or not they can tell things? These motors can drive the best mechanics nuts.
I have that same carb and cant find a remanufactured one anywhere. I can find similar carbs for the same years but they don't have that little brass nipple on the top. I only find used ones on Ebay. Anyone know where to fine this same carb re-maned ?
@@wish2fish37 Thank you. Ill check tims site. Its a longs story but the short story is i bought this motor off of someone and the carb has all these broken nipples and its covered in super glue. yes, super glue! i prefer to get a reman so i cant bolt and go. season starts soon so im trying to be quick as possible.
My want to do a crab cleaning. Not hard to do. Pull it off and clean. I did not even use a rebuild kit. Lets you know where you stand with that being done.
What do you need to know?I agree but this was a impromptu video that I just made to try and steer people in the a direction that even I did not think of until the last minute. There are many other videos covering this subject so I only discussed the root cause. I could have not made the video at all. Watch Kodiebass or This Old Outboard here on CZcams. Tons of content that is helpful. Thanks.
@@wish2fish37 Right now need help with starting my 20hp jhonson 1990. It worked fine last summer, may have forgot to run dry stored inside, quckstart fires it up for a couple seconds but I think the fuel isn't getting through well (no fuel smell after 20 pulls...). Have new line new gas new tank bulb primed choke out idle up a little in neutral.
Sounds like it needs carb taken off and complete cleaning. Lenny of good videos on this procedure. Can of carb cleaner to blast out the carb. Passage ways. Low speed circuit probably blocked.
@@basilkey2949 I did carb cleaner in the intake, adjusted the fuel jet screw and timing/idle speed screw, checked the squeeze bulb arrow was pointing to my engine and put in seafoam addative into my gas tank after I got it running with quickstart It was able to catch and has been running ok even at low idle finally! Every so often at low idle it will suddenly stop. It starts back up fast though not sure what that is maybe slight timing off with screw but don't want to mess much with it now. Maybe all this will help others too :)

Just put up some videos of it running FYI
Do you know the idle adjustment?

Hey I'm getting low idle cough at low speeds but higher rpms is fine. Cleaned carb, new pump and plugs. What you think ti might be??
Running lean. Check for air leaks. Look on you tube for lean cough. Should find good videos on it. Could be link and sync.
Reed val ?

Look up Tim’s Outboards. Had lots of used parts. Why do you need a reman. ?Easy enough to put a kit in.

It would be helpful if you broke out the things you did and actually showed the repair and re-assemble.

@@captainzappbrannagan My 25 hp Johnson did the same. Carb was a mess. I cleaned it and it stayed running.

BORING................... KEEP GUESSING
What do you mean keep guessing? Yeah it can be boring. You make a video on these things I discussed?
