  • Changed out a wire on the harness that was jacked up. Also turned low speed idle out 2 more turns as suggested by someone on iboats. Seems to be OK.

    I have a 1970 Evinrude 33 hp and today I learned it is possible to have something as simple as a plug wire to make your motor misfire under vibrating (motor running) conditions, even tho you test for continuity and it passes it does not mean it works at all times during running motor.
    Before I figured it out I was out two new coils, 2 point sets , 2 condensers, and 2 plugs.... now I’m trying to figure out how to lower my rpm’s on this single barrel carb.

    I'VE BEEN SPECIALIZING IN JOHNSON & EVINRUDE MOTORS FOR 28 PLUS YEARS, AND THOSE MOTORS IN PARTICULAR! THE 25/35 SERIES AND THE 9.9/15 SERIES. IT'S A COMMON THING TO HAVE TO TURN OUT THE LOW SPEED NEEDLE VALVE A FEW TURNS BEYOND THE NORMAL "1 1/2 TURNS", AS THE FACTORY RECOMMENDS. AND SOMETIMES IT'S BECAUSE A MOTOR MAY HAVE WEAK COMPRESSION (AROUND 80 TO 100 PSI!) AND THEREFORE CAN NOT DRAW THE FUEL PU FROM THE CARB. DRAW TUBE LIKE A MOTOR WITH 130 OR BETTER COMPRESSION CAN! ASSUMING THE CARB. IS CLEAN AND FLOWING RIGHT, AND COMPRESSION IS 120 TO 135 OR HIGHER, THE NORMAL SETTING OF 2 TURNS OR SLIGHTLY LESS SHOULD SUFFICE.

      Sonny Cannon thanks for that Information. as I mentioned before the video was made so that I could post the link on iboats for help. I had to make a CZcams link to share. I needed someone with your knowledge to listen to what it sounded like after I adjusted it per the instructions from the people that were helping me on iboats. thanks for not being a troll and trying to knock a video.

      Hi Chris! Glad to help out! I am a super fan of 2 stroke motors, and for good reason! They are the very best of all! The evinrude e-tec is in a class all by itself! Nothing comes close in weight, torque, rpm, and reliability! I enjoyed your video Chris! Best of luck boating!!!!

    Why would a timing light show an uneven
    Firing on #1 cyl on a 25 hp omc
    Like it's firing to many times /erratic
    I changed out little brain box that goes to the coils
    And it's still misfiring at lower Rpm
    Thanx

    what screw do you adjust.?the one on the front of carb?

  • @chrisellwood3523
    @chrisellwood3523 Před 3 lety

    I have an issue whereby since having a float valve screw drilled out it wont idle and will only run top end with choke on. Maybe this hack is required to get around that chamber blockage. I will try later

  • @dadtodc

    I made this video to post on iboats. there are two of them. a before I adjusted which I posted and asked for help like some of you have. this one was after someone told me what to do. I posted this one to same thread so the next person that needed help might see it and fix their issue.
    I bet the ones of you on this thread that have condemned the video or had some negative comment are actually HACK MECHANICS that can't stand it when somone doesn't need their advice or fixes something simple that they would charge a person hundreds of dollars to do. I know it has to be hard to troll youtube, and even harder to see someone succeed where you have failed some many times. why are you even watching my video? I bet I know! you have told someone your gonna rebuild a carb, but that wasn't the problem was it? so now your frantically searching videos to help you fix the issue you created.
    get a life you stupid trolls.

    • @dadtodc
      @dadtodc  Před 8 lety +1

      +chris Byers I started with two, but it ran rough. I went to 3 and then 4. 4 was the ticket. I did adjust back just a hair.

  • @zachhoyt92
    @zachhoyt92 Před 8 lety

    how long have you ran it at that ?

    • @dadtodc
      @dadtodc  Před 8 lety

      a few years. until I sold it. still running that way. my buddy bought it. there is a very fine line between the rough and clean run. I just kept playing with it until I hear it run fine.

    • @dadtodc
      @dadtodc  Před 8 lety

      I screwed it all the way in amd then backed it out 4 complete turns. then cranked. I turned it out until it leveled

    • @dadtodc
      @dadtodc  Před 8 lety

      I started with the half turns. Couldn't get it to do anything. then I ran it all the way in amd kept backing it out until it cranked. then adjusted from there.

      Hmm thats odd

    • @dadtodc
      @dadtodc  Před 8 lety +1

      Everything was odd with that motor. Fow whatever reason the motor ran great when out 4 turns. Like I said I ran back in about a half once in the lake. But it ran very fast and never had a cranking issue
