Being a ford tech a doing a TON of 6.0 glow plugs, I can say I personally have never had any problem other than the glow plugs themselves or the glow plug harness (plugs onto the glow plugs) I have never had the module fail for me or the pins spread. I always just sell the plugs and the harness if I get a glow plug code on the 6.0. I also always make sure to sell one whole bank of glow plugs because every time I only replace the one bad one, it comes in the next week with 2 or 3 codes for the rest of them on that bank. If I were to get one that ended up needing the module after that (which has never happened) I have a box of 20 or 30 good modules I could use one from... But like I said it has never happened

Doesn't really work. If I plug in the block heater overnight then it will start. Now I know what's up and can fix it with the things you just taught this 54 year old diesel novice.

That’s a 7.3 glow plug controller on a 6.9. The original 6.9 controllers were a cylinder type screwed into the back of the engine on the drivers side. They were very prone to failure. Many have changed to the push button momentary switch option.

So at 8:26 he said "On the earlier 7.3..." when he's obviously now working on a LATE 7.3. The late 7.3 has 2 RELAYS, side by side on the passenger side. One is the glow plug relay, the other is the air intake heater relay. This is what I meant when I said you have to watch his videos over and over to figure out what he really means. He is in California, so when he says "early 7.3", he means before they switched to the glow plug CONTROLLER, which was only on CA emissions vehicles. For the rest of us, if you have 2 relays side by side, you have a late 99, also referred to as a 99.5.

When you're learning how to diagnose problems, it is imperative that the proper terms be used, or the info being taught is confusing at best, or could lead you to doing something wrong, at worst. This guy calls the glow plug relay the "control" several times, which can be confusing. On California emissions trucks and Excursions, it is called a Glow Plug Control Module. On federal emissions trucks, it is called the Glow Plug RELAY. The 2 items are completely different. You gotta watch his videos over and over to figure out what the F he really means sometimes!!!

I realize Ron died recently, so I mean no disrespect, but even though he obviously knows his stuff, many times his instruction is confusing. At 16:36, he numbers the glow plugs, 1-3-5-7, with 1 and 5 at the top, but then later in the video, he starts at the top right, with #1, then goes down for #3, then calls the BOTTOM connection on the left #5. He uses a lot of terms that are vague, stuff like " This one tells the PCM to turn on and pulls on it..." (something like that). "Pulls" on WHAT? What does that mean??
