  • 2005 Ford Excursion with a 6.0 diesel had two codes pop up P0678 cylinder 8 glow plug open circuit and P0672 cylinder 2 glow plug open circuit. I ended up ohming out all 8 glow plugs and found cylinder 8 was at 2.1 ohms while all the other cylinders were at .7 to .8 ohms. Replaced cylinder 8 glow plug erased dtc codes and codes never came back seemed to fix the issue. Glow plug was purchased from Amazon and I have provided a link below I will also include a link to the removal tool and also a link to the scan tool as well.

    Kingbolen Scan Tool: amzn.to/3z4yI3P
    Update so after a few days both codes came back for cylinder 8 and cylinder 2 again. I replaced the whole glow plug control module and that has totally fixed the problem. So listed below is a link to the oem motorcraft glow plug control module.

    Thanks a lot for making a thorough video, this helped me out. Turned out I didn't have any bad glow plugs, I just needed to press all the terminals in my glow plug module connectors together with a small flat blade screwdriver so that they’d make good contact with the controller and both of my codes went away!

      Yeah a lot of times the clips end up breaking and eventually vibrate out of the controller. I’ve worked on a lot that have been zip tied to keep from backing out.

    Wow, thank you for showing how to test out the glow plugs and the harness. My 06 f250 has the same problem on #8. Very informative! I subscribed and liked.

      Thank you… not sure if you saw my update in the description but the #8 code came back so I replaced the whole glow plug control module and that took care of the #8 code I guess it’s a common problem on the 6.0.

    Thanks for the video. I have 2,6,8 showing up on my '05 as well. Knowing where to get the readings and values is much appreciated.

    I just want to give you a shout out. I got an 04 super duty F350 with a 60 exact same cylinder glow plug was open. I wanted to know what I was going to need to be doing to figure it out just like I said, I just watch this video. What are you give you a shout out and say thank you I’ll be looking at more of your stuff so I can keep up the maintenance on this truck so I’ll see you in the next one.

      tested at the glow plug or 4-pin connector or Black or green connector? My Brand new GP's tested .4 ohms, I think as they age, the resistance goes higher, due to thermal breakdown

    just wondering. Did you get a check engine light or were you only told you had bad glow plugs by the obd2 sensor. ( Thank you video was very helpful)

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  Před rokem +1

      No check engine light I could just tell it wasn’t started as normal. Not sure if you saw my note in the description I ended up replacing the glow plug control module and that solving my issue.

    did you say the black connector is an ODD number cylinder but starting with cylinder 2-4-6-8? Do you mean 1-3-5-7 instead?
