"I am not a yakuza" - exactly what a yakuza member would say.
Meanwhile, "I am a yakuza" and you will get arrested immediately.
@@rayyan848And get a cell next to Johnny Somali
Kiriu-chan
I am not Yakuza
Exactly, fellow non-Yakuza.
"...And I'm obviously not a Yakuza"
That's suspicious disclaimer
Could just be that famed Japanese modesty.
How did he forgot the most important rules.
True Yakuza use a gamepad.
Fun Fact: A journalist presented the game to some actual old school yakuza. They had trouble to hold the game pad because of their missing fingers!
(By the way, their only complaint was the "shabby suit of the protagonist")
@@AGS363Unfortunately that isn't necessarily true. Said journalist apparently had a reputation for embellishing things and sometimes just making things up, so I'd take that story with a grain of salt.
Agree
I love how in Japan, even the most notorious criminal gang seems all about being polite and not harassing random people on the streets etc. Heck, I feel like in other countries, many generic people are less polite than a literal criminal organization.
It is due to their origin which were a combination of lowest social classes but also disgraced samurais, and other similar people. This made them highly hierarchical and focused on honor and loyalty. But make no mistake they still extort people, demand "protection" fees, loan shark, drug traffick, human traffick etc. Its a very double standard world where they may volunteer to help during natural disasters but do horrible things at other times. They try to keep a clean image but their true intentions and actions are anything but.
I think yakuza is Not some Troublemaking organisation they are a kind of mercenary Group that helps doing things that are necessary but not necessarily legal They will be in clubs watching over it and stuff and you wont even recognize them unless you cause trouble. You could Call them an underground guardian group
They won't bother you unless you fall into one of their tourism scams or mess with their girl, which are a lot😂
The recruit members doing basic janitor chores basically mirrors Daniel-san's journey in The Karate Kid. I can definitely see them learning the skills to be ruthless fighters from answering phones, cooking meals, and washing toilets.
It's like sushi chefs only cook rice for the first 15 years.
discipline is the foundation for everyone who's ever been a force of nature.
Of course. Reflexes, knife skills and familiarity with strong chemicals, respectively.
And that's why in The Way of Househusband the senior Yakuza members are so good at cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry
1:17 "If you don't like it just quit!"
4:08 "Quitting is not allowed!"
Sounds like fun.
One thing I appreciate about the Yakuza, is that they speak very, very clearly. Their speech makes for extraordinary Japanese language learning material.
@@user-gx1tp3jp6i はい、その場合に限ります。
How would one go about acquiring such footage?
can you please give an example? like a sentence. how a yakuza say it vs how a civilian says it. like if they both don't like a food, how would each say it?
@@1Manimation1 I’ll explain the joke. Dora The Troll speaks Japanese in his videos (that are intended for Western audiences) in a way that is very clear and distinct. I think he does it because (a) he’s a professional voice actor, and (b) he knows that a lot of his audience are Westerners who are learning Japanese, and need really good, crisp pronunciation. In real life in Tokyo, I have great difficulty making out what Japanese people are saying when they speak at a normal speed. I imagine that if Yakuza were speaking ordinarily, it’d be even harder. But I (and others) can clearly understand what Sora is saying. He speaks Japanese slowly, and very clearly, while acting as a Yakuza in these clips. (He does use a rougher, courser masculine register of words. But he speaks the words very clearly.)
Makes sense in societies like Japan and Korea that generally, their criminals would keep things on the down-low given the collectivist mentality they have toward not standing out.
Korean gang members hit innocent civilians and old people all the time in Kdramas
Petition for Sora the Troll to appear in Yakuza 8 as a main protagonist.
Too late, Yakuza 8 (or Like a Dragon 8) is coming real soon. Like 3 months. Might as well pitch for Like a Dragon 9.
@@BatDanNightAnd also for Like a Dragon Ishin 2
Yes please
@@gouravchakraborty9801 That's not happening. We could get a Kenzan remake, or another feudal age spin-off.
He can be in a side mission
welp, just found out that i have been training for the japanese criminal underworld my entire life without knowing it
The yakuza should just start a maid service with those requirements lol
ha ha ha ha ha yeahhhhhhhhh
Would be surprised if they don't have a cleaning agency as a front.
One where you lose a finger if you quit?
Ja ja
The one thing I kept thinking of was that the "janitor" position is just a long test, where the boss is making sure you're loyal and will do everything they tell you to the letter.
You may not be yakuza but they will be watching this video taking "notes".
Wait but the video games told me it'd be a fun and wacky adventure where you get to dance to disco and drive around Yokohama in a go-kart.
That's because the games skip that boring part and get to the good stuff
Newly recluted yakuza: this is not like the videogames promised me....
it's exactly like that though.
Kiryu ain't new though. Not exactly high up, but he's not completely fresh.
When he first gets out of jail (leaving aside the conspiracies) he's a high rank member of the Dojima clan as he literally served 10 years for his leader@@nicodalusong149
My mother met an old yakuza guy in the bar once. He explained how many of the older yakuza aren't as dangerous as the younger ones since many of the younger ones are more agressive so it's usually the younger yakuza you have to watch out for.
there are old yakuza, there are bold yakuza, but there are no old, bold yakuza
Other unspoken rules:
- Shout Kiryu-chaaaann when face to face with the Dragon of Dojima
- Sing bakamitai at the karaoke
I remember watching an interview done with a (alleged) Yakuza waaaay back when, and the one thing I took from it was this:
"We make sure our bathrooms are pristine. A small thing to some, but we make sure that guests who need privacy is done in the cleanest form."
A real Yakuza knows drinking tea with your pinky out is actually considered rude.
oh the poor British
@@AughtelI'm British and we don't do that. It's considered rude here.
@@thesmithersy really? Here you'll just be made fun for it, but not considered rude. Why so harsh?
@@Aughtel I guess because of those stereotypes posh people do it (they don't) so it signals pretentiousness which is not something we British approve of.
@@thesmithersy I'm American and I was kind of surprised when I found that out honestly. TV shows, media etc... in America showed pinkies out as "proper tea etiquette" and I never really questioned it.
wait, I've heard all of this before... in Yakuza series. that means those games represent real yakuza pretty accurately.
some magazine or another actually went out and got some former yakuza to play the games. they had a pretty positive review on the realism front, aside from the obvious "action movie" stuff. though, all three participants made fun of how small the tattoos were.
No it isn't, don't spread this sort of thing. A game can be fun but don't treat those people as "heroes" or "honorable people". Of course they gonna make some good advertising about themselves
@LordSevla the Yakuza are not just petty criminals but provide services to what Japanese society considers trash.
also the pinkie finger thing: thats exactly where the pinky promise originates and comes from actually from yakuza stuff, which means if you break it you have to cut off your pinkie finger thats what it actually means .
The dude never got over the fact that he was a janitor 😂😂
So I'm in Japan and I did try to join the Yakuza. I started by answering the phone, cleaning and cooking as expected, but when I received a paycheck at the end of the month I realized I didn't join the Yakuza but had actually gotten a normal job at a Laundry Services Facility somewhere in Tokyo. I might have misunderstood the meaning of the phrase "money laundry". Anyway, this time I joined the Yakuza for real and just to show them how tough I am, I picked up a fight with some nerd in the streets. After he sent me to the hospital, I was "punished" by the Yakuza boss. Ok, this time I won't pick up a fight, but I will sure act tough and insult people who don't respect me!
So, I got punished by my boss again for lack of manners. Because of this I decided to quit no matter what! What could they possibly do to me?
...They cut off more than just my pinky... Damn you Sora!
I can’t tell if this is a joke or if I should be concerned 👹
Btw what else did they cut off :)
His bloodline 😭😭
Sora-San, I can't watch 40 hours of anime in a day its impossible.
This is where the international date line comes into play.
@@zagnorch1336or use multiple devices to watch more than one at a time
With such a weak mindset, for sure you cannot do anything.
Simple, simultaneously watching two anime at the same time, thus you have watched 40 hours of anime in 20 hours (totally not stealing from double speed one...)
Get 4 TV's you can watch it all in 10 hours, ... it will be a little difficult keeping up with the plot , being tht you will have to be constantly turning your head to see and hear.... but it can be done
I’m loving the colorful translations. “なんだこれ”= “what is this shet “
Second thing I learned, yakuza is almost like work in costumer service, if the store is empty, you have to clean, dont dare to bother the customer, you have to be polite, and even if you quit, you have already lose part of your (health) body and soul. 🤔
It really felt like there was some kind of progression going along with the rules. I really liked it, I hope you write future scripts the way you did this one.
Now I understands why Tatsu from The Way of the Househusband is so good on cleaning, cooking and other stuffs, because he spent long time at the lowest rank when he became a Yakuza member.
I remember the phase when both Yakuza the game and Yakuza in general were prominent. The amount of Highschool and College students were like Yakuzas and Yankees are so cool. I wish to be a delinquent and then all realised they screwed up because the police catches them or actual Yakuza adults scolded them mercilessly
"Tuck your shirt in boy, boi you could die today, ytf you looking frumpy!"
Wait, you lived in Japan?
@@johanngaiusisinwingazuluah2116 Yep, when I was younger. There was a funny generation moment of time.
Love your videos! Very entertaining, very amusing and funny. Dramatic too! I don't guess I'll ever see Japan again, except in media, but it fascinates me.
Sora is a confirmed Yakuza boss!
I would never risk my life in joining a gang like that. It can lead to huge consequences!
Yeah, like getting turned into a janitor!
@@kikiretzorg1467a lifelong janitor, the horror
Thank you, I'll remember these rules when I'm applying for the Yakuza!
I went to a public bath and saw a guy with big yakuza tattoos on his back for the first time in my life. I was looking at a mirror and he politely bowed as he had to walk in front of me (I'm not a tough Westerner, but just an average Japanese).
Badass, Yakuza have some great tattoos
Ngl i dont think i could make it as a yakuza i would be too paranoid for that lifestyle
Me: Boss-san, I have been answering phones and cleaning for a long time, can I do something different?
Boss-san: Here, take this gun and kill a certain person.
Me: On second thought, I'll just man the phones.
I love your vids, not only do they help me learn Japanese a bit better they also teach me a lot about Japan and it’s culture ❤
Only for all the effort, work and time behind this vid you got my like, Sora: I enjoyed it and the final killed me. Subscribed. Respect & Greetings from Spain. Arigato!
I really like your videos and the kind of music you put in them. Much love from italy, keep it up.
Cutting pinky is not used in modern yakuza society nowadays . Cutting pinky means you are unable to use your Katana for a lifetime . Yamaguchi-Gumi actually ban cutting pinky instead either cutting index or ear . I want to explain in full sentence but this is the limit of my english 😅 Gomen na sai🙏
It's called organized crime, not just crime. You wanna be a Yakuza, you gotta play by their rules.
Imagine playing the sega yakuza games thinking it'll be the same as joining one in real life and thinking to yourself it'll be awesome.Good luck buddy lol.
I love the format of these videos, so good.
OMG Sora is a Yakuza, who lives in the US... RUN! _MORE_ seriously: wait.. weren't the Yakuza one of the first to provide aid after the Fukushima disaster?
Yeah that's right I remember reading about that.
"And I'm obviously not a Yakuza" - Sora the Sus
Sora is the best at making some good videos on yt and i really like him alot 🙂👍
Oh this was equal parts entertaining and informative 👏 😂
Thanks for the video, Sora
Being a janitor is far from the worse thing as part of the yakitori, imho.
Great vidoe, your English is really good!
Hey now, doing laundry is key to learning the most important ability as a Yakuza: the ability to take every piece of clothing off of your upper body in one smooth dramatic motion.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
"Im quitted"
*Sora is big mad*
Also sora: *hates chores*
"I am a janitor. Not a yakuza" ~ Exactly what sora do when he is yakuza
Makes sense. Put the low ranks on janitorial duty to test if they're even worth keeping around, along with being strict on avoiding trouble and maintaining manners to keep up subterfuge. Plus y'know, you're in the Yakuza, not being some common street thug.
There's more to it than that. The Yakuza are "semi-legal" under Japanese law and are permitted to engage in certain commercial activities deemed necessary to keep order in Japanese society. Loyalty and politeness are as much about keeping in the good graces of the Japanese public and the police as they are living up to the code of each Yakuza family. To engage in these activities, the Yakuza has to possess the same customer service mentality you will find in more legitimate businesses in order to keep the heat from coming and shutting your operations down.
Before Rule No. 4, Sora says "if you don't like, quit." But that changed after Rule 4
Out with it . I saw you with Goro Majima in yakuza game
Thank you for the information.
interesting yakuza rules, thanks sora!
IIRC new sumo trainees also have to do chores and cook for the more senior members of their stable, so Point #1 didn't come as a big surprise to me. BTW don't students in Japan also clean the hallways and classrooms of the schools they attend after class?
Also , that "Yakuza Countermeasures Law" feels like a beta-test of the U.S.'s federal RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, which was enacted in the early 1970s to counter Vespuccia's organized crime syndicates... and a certain former chief executive.
I wonder if any Yakuza is watching this now and thinking "Oh yeah, so true"
So, joining the Yakuza basically means you're a slave janitor.
卵が好き
This must be a first, an American has infiltrated and is openly discussing rules within the Yakuza?! Sora, you’re amazing!
My man has played a lot of Yakuza games lately! So that's how Sora knows about Yakuza!
So basically you're the "househusband" when you enter 893.
That's where the idea of the anime came from 😄
THANK YOU
Wow you are brave for putting this up. 😧
😂😂 I loved the end. Watching anime for 40 hrs. That would be the best job ever for me 😅!
ルールは破るためにある!
“If you don’t like it, just quit” is such a menacing line-of-the-video for はい、お前 guy
...It's both comforting and hilarious to know that even the Yakuza--the world feared criminal underbelly of Japan--is still ridiculously Japanese to a fault.🤦♀
Honor, humility, not causing trouble... Is this eastern mafia or is it some paladin order?
"Sucks to be you"
Imagine Sora in the outrage trilogy lol
"If you don't like it just quit" lose a money or lose a pinky
Starting from zero as a yakuza would make a great anime plot.
New yakuza member is a confirmed yakuza janitor. 🙃
Sora being former Yakuza boss. 😮
Who would've thought a type of food would have so many rules. Crazy.
- “And I’m obviously not a yakuza”
Said the oyabun calmly 😂
So mysterious how they still exist... With recruitment like this. Oh wait! what about the family thing?
The guy who shouts “Hey you”! And points? Obviously a Yakuza
I immediately just imagine a recruit cooking so well that they just hire them as a chef
Yakuza is all nice and dandy, but bosozoku is where it's at.
"自分が実際に893になった訳ではなく"
Quit the act, everybody knows you're Sora the Troll - Oyabun of the Troll-gumi
R.I.P. Itami Juzo.
これらの規則は龍が如くのシリーズで言及されていたのを覚えていた。
ゲームで冗談のように扱われる規則もあれば、物語にとって重要なルールもあった。
So cool haha
Don’t bite your nails or finger when someone shanks you in a back alley
when even joining the army is better than being a criminal. at least they feed you, even if it's shitty MREs
Rule 1 is what joining a dojo was like in the old days.
Have you seen the new anime "A Playthrough of a Certain Dude's VRMMO Life"? The protagonist named himself アース in the game LMAO.
Sora Yakuza confirmed
sora: would you please listen i am not a yakuza! everyone : HE*'s A YAKUZA!
(1) Do shitty menial tasks; (2) don't cause trouble; (3) always be polite; (4) earn basically no money; (5) but quitting is even worse. Joining the Yakuza is like having an internship from hell.
Even with the cleaning it still sounds scary.
Sora is not a yakuza, but a "yuck-u-sir" because he calls himself "kimoi"
40 hours... feels like 2setviolin reference xD
What I learnt: Once you join, you're stuck there forever
