It’s obvious that the defendant had no intention of hiring a private attorney; as Judge Simpson said, he was trying to delay the trial, probably because the evidence was too strong for him to beat. I’m actually really suspicious that his public defender put him up to it, because her manner was very hesitant and odd, and it seems obvious that she was surprised that the prosecution’s offer was still on the table. I hope Judge Simpson gives the eejit 1 year and not probation at his sentencing hearing.
He wasn’t going to appoint a private one in my opinion, get a delay then come back and say he’s not got the money, kick the can down the road again as one needs to be appointed again. It was just a tactic.
@@aptapathy If there was evidence of abuse on the part of the father, the defense attorney would definitely have brought that up. He does not even seem to be claiming that, himself.
@djjones7226 There is no such thing as an inherent or default angelic innocence for anybody that has ever reproduced. Being a father doesn't mean he is a virtuous guy with no faults. All we can objectively say is that assault is a crime in that jurisdiction, and the punishment can go no further than the law for that particular crime.
@@aptapathyHes the one arrested and charged. He's the one attempting to delay. He's the one who plead no contest. He's the one whose own parents showed to testify against him. That's enough context for a lot.
if he could afford private counsel, why is he burdening the already overburdened PD’s office 🤷🏼♀️ I hope lawyers fees are assessed … thank YOU, ✨Wolfy darling
*It was all a delay tactic!!* Judge Simpson even said it, so the defendant knew his @ss was grass and freaked out. I strongly suspect that his public defender hatched this plot because she acted very strange, not like her usual self. It’s obvious that the guy’s father was ready to testify and the other evidence must have been really strong to freak him out like that. But the defendant had no intention of hiring anybody….he’s a l*ser.
If he had gotten his adjournment, he'd probably come back & say something like "I've looked at hiring my own lawyer and it turns out I can't afford it. Can I have another appointed lawyer, please?"
I was once called in for jury duty. We were lined up waiting to go in for the selection process. The prosecutor came out and let us know that we were all dismissed with the court's thanks. Seems that once the defendant walked into the hallway and saw us there, it became very real to them, and they ended up taking a plea.
That may have been one of the changes dismissed. In some jurisdictions the age of the victim can be an aggravating factor and can double sentences. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem so in this case.
Considering what happened, the PD did an excellent job protecting her office and making sure the defendant’s rights were protected. Although I think both the Washtenaw PD and Prosecutor’s Offices know doing otherwise in Simpson’s courtroom is a bad idea.
I was just thinking about Judge Boyd. I have heard her reference charges that include the words, "Family Violence". I wonder if TX has stricter laws with regard to crimes involving a family member.
I'm sorry but we really need to change these rules. If you come to court with three counts against you. And you plead guilty to one to get the other two wiped away. In my opinion you should have to do the full time. Of whatever crime you admitted to doing. There should be no parole or nothing else like that if the maximum sentence for shoplifting is one year in jail you should get one year in jail
Probably the new evidence, would be, the victim made me do it, defense. His want for a new attorney, would be, to find one that agreed with him, that that would be a viable defense, besides a delaying tactic.
Who is that standing behind the defense? Oh her client. He’s 38yo 😮. He certainly doesn’t look it; he looks a lot younger. Sounds like it’s time to grow up.
. Just watched another 'defendant' (possibly a squatter) after 6 months of NON-PAYMENT of Rent...(complaining about lack of this & that) - then saying "I've got a lawyer, and she wants me to go to trial. BTW - I've got asthma" - Typical delaying tactic. .
Oh he has PLENTY of experience with these matters. He knows EXACTLY what he's doing. Someone in jail told him that this is a way to delay your trial. I would ask him if he had to wait in jail until his trial while he finds a new lawyer, would he still want to switch lawyers?
Why was he given a public defender if he could afford his own? Didn’t he have to prove he couldn’t afford his own attorney to be able to get a public defender??
Don't you have to fill out your financial records to be able to get a public defender? So now he wants his own choice, does he have the money?🤔 This is a delay tactic.
They always overcharge in these cases so that they can throw something out for a plea deal. I don't know what the other charges were but I'm sure they were the typical ones you see in these cases.

Like poker: every judge has a tell. Judge Simpson has a few of them. His best known tell is when calls for "Mr Allen." When that happens and Deputy Allen makes that walk behind a defendant: that means the defendant's ass is going to jail. But Judge Simpson's other tell is when he sits straight up and slightly leans back into his chair. When he does that, he knows he going to hear something (usually from the defense table {but sometimes from the prosecution side as well . . .}), that sounds like someone is trys trying to pull a fast one over the court (i.e.: like someone caught lying to Judge Simpson; a lawyer whose conduct is unbecoming in court; a sovereign citizen (sovcidiot). And in that position, Judge Simpson starts interrogating the defense-defendant, it's usually going to go real bad - because Juge Simpson is already pissed and he's about to drop the hammer down on the defendant for trying to be slick. And at the beginning of this video, you can see (and by watching Judge Simpson's tell), this is not going to go well for the defendant.
Man, I am pretty sure you all would still be looking for me if I did that to my father! I would expect nothing less unless it was to protect another family member(s)! Thats a whole different situation.
Yikes he’s nearly 40? Thought he was 23….. yikes! You can’t tell me he’s never had any charges of assault before this! I wonder if this will be shown on the 15th
I’d love to know what he does for a living and how he got a public attorney if he could afford to hire one. Dont they have to fill out a form to show they need a PD?
Someone has seen far too many CZcams videos, way too many court related TV shows and movies and maybe a few bad episodes of Perry Mason. Swing and a miss there, sparky!
He hit beat his elder father then thinks he can run.the. Judge around and play with him. Doesnt work that way. Uf hes 38.he should be more culpable for what hes done. Maybe father wouldnt give him money. Hes a bully useless
If he could afford a private attorney he can pay the taxpayers back for using the public defender.
And if he believes the public defender is not doing an adequate job, he has a basis for appeal😂
It’s obvious that the defendant had no intention of hiring a private attorney; as Judge Simpson said, he was trying to delay the trial, probably because the evidence was too strong for him to beat. Yes he should pay back the people of he money he took by not saying he could afford his own attorney and now says he he can.
Good point. Exactly. Hadn't thought of that.

Judge did not look happy hearing a 38 year old man hit his own father.
At 65 my old man could still either take me or at least put a hurting on me
He got hoodwinked. By all.
It looks like he was hoping the victim wouldn't go all the way to trial. The "new fact" was not new evidence.
Yeah, the victim was his father and thought the father would not go through with it.
If I had done that to my Dad (he was strict), I would have definitely ended up in the hospital.
What a scumbag to assault his own father. I'm sure he didn't think his parents would show up to testify against him.

The defendant neither appears nor behaves as if he's 38. Wow!
Holy cow he sounds like he has the intellect of a 15 y/o
And he assaulted his dad , probably lives with him 😮
Think he should be remanded until sentencing.
Perhaps Judge decided due to Clean Record? First time..
Beggars can't be choosy unless you get your own counsel. Glad the Judge saw through his delay tacics called him out on this.

It's not his lawyer's fault that he isn't confident. She isn't a psychiatrist or miracle worker and neither are paid lawyers lol
Ty for showing the 1st video. I saw the 2nd one yesterday but didn't know about the 1st!!
Having a manbun should automatically double the sentence.
