Rolled Over 6.0 Powerstroke Sitting for 12+ Years, WHAT A GAMBLE!

- This video is a bit different from the usual but it was such a unique situation I had to share.
As many of you know, I own and run a full service auto salvage business called Importapart, located in the Saint Louis Missouri area. I don't buy a lot of cars because I don't have a large lot. That means I have to be pretty picky with what I buy. Our vehicles are wrecked, totaled, flooded, burned, mechanically totaled, etc and they come from places like Copart, IAA, tow lots, shops and even the local public.
A local tow lot closed a few years ago and recently they had an auction to sell off everything that was there. I bought 5 vehicles including this truck. When picking up the title for this truck, talking with the owner of the former tow lot, he told me that truck was wrecked in 2010 or 2011 and parked on their lower lot ever since.
As with many of our vehicles, we don't really know their condition until we try to get them started, and tear into them. This thing had a ton of aftermarket parts like a long arm lift, ranch hand bumpers,. enormous exhaust stacks and some large wheels and tires. When we powered this up we were in for a shock!
So now this entire truck is inventoried and if you'd like to buy parts from it, you can go to www.importapart.com or email us at Importapartsales@gmail.com.
As this channel evolves, I want to show other parts of this industry I've been so deeply rooted in for 20+ years.
I hope you enjoyed this video, and as always, I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!

Cab swap it do iiiiitttttttt
Yes I'm all for this
Save the truck it what he is about dont kill a good truck this is a shame !
Im a chevy guy and i would save that truck .
@@ttm9379 me to a truck is a MF TRUCk!
That powerstroke wants to live even after all its been through. Save it!
Head studs, oil cooler, and a cab swap. That's all this needs and I'll guarantee you'll still be driving this thing in ten years
DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT
I agree. Fix it. If you do not want it afterwards, sell it. It will go for big money in this market.
The 6.0 in a European application was a great motor because it didn't have all the smog garbage the US models did.
YES PLEASE, DO IT, DO IT, CAB SWAP, WILL GET MANY, MANY VIEWS, BIG MONEY FOR YOU ?
@@dougkabler3032 FOR SURE, JUST THE STORY ALONE IS WORTH FIXING IT.
No one knows how happy seeing the oil pressure shoot up before the final start made me. I knew she had life
It's a HEUI system. It has to have oil pressure to even start
@@tjlqk3 I know! That’s why seeing the dummy gauge jump made me happy
@@jaxfarias973 As someone whos done lots of head jobs, thats always the "please god let that guage move" moment before it finally fires lol
Thank you! I’m hoping you go “off script” more often with videos like this one!
Cut the roof off, install a roll cage and run it.
Totally agree about all the bad press so many vehicle brands get. All vehicles are "man made" and capable of failure.
maybe seats?
I second cutting the roof off.
@@stereolababy Why seats? A little Mother's leather conditioner and you're setting pretty.
Yup. The roof is the least hard to fix like a frame or something. Just body work.
@@Omgninjas2me three 😂
It wants to live. Cab swap!
Im going to say the truck likely had a very expensive recovery and tow bill the owner could not afford, and as a result lost possession. That is an amazing score and will definitely benefit your business financially.
I'm still driving my 05 PS with 235k. Original seats, no rips. Dash good. All the PW, PD, original AC still working, knock on wood. Bought it for $15k @157k miles over 8 years ago. Yes, I have put some money into a head job - couldn't resist putting a tuner on it. But all in all mine has treated me pretty well.
Mine a 04 6.0 non deleted, 250,000
Still driving , running good!
I have an 07 F350 crew cab long bed FX4. Garage kept, never sat outside or driven to work, showroom condition. It went to Bulletproof Diesel in Mesa AZ early on for the "works" ($10,000)
We use it for cross country trips. Never any problems.
You have a 6 liter powerstroke with 235k on it? I don't believe you.
Still drive my 2006 F250 Amarillo every day, 300k miles on her ❤
@@dannysdailys lol, I know right? As unbelievable as it sounds, it's true. I pretty much drive it every day.
Best 6.0L powerstroke in the country is in a rolled truck that has been sitting for a decade. 🤣
He's got a problem and I'm here to enjoy the fruits of it.
100% he's going to cab swap it.
I hope so, plus a new interior.
A car guy working at a shop like this is like a drunk working at the brewery.
Hopefully return it to stock height as well!
Good ol powerbroke! I paid my bills and kept food on the table years ago working on these.
The sound of that turbo goes hard. Dad used to have one when I was growing up. I miss it 😢
Incredible score. The 2005 6.0 I drive was purchased back in 2010 almost the same exact miles as this thing. I am in complete agreement with @DavidsGuns by doing a cab swap. You have a beautiful gem that should not go to waste.
Can swap. Good idea. My diesel shop charges about 1 1/2 to pull the cab and a couple to put back on.
I'm really shocked that it fired up! Yes, you need more projects!
Great video! I love the engine teardowns, but this was fun to watch as well. It looked like there was plenty of good old Midwest rust under that truck, amazing that it survived whatever happened to it as well as it did.
I want to see more videos of you working on your projects. Your attention to detail on fixing things that were done wrong is impressive.
I have one of those infamous 6.0 powerstrokes in a F-250 KR. If you delete the EGR and put in head studs they are great trucks. Fluids, filters and a preemptive water pump at 250k is the only work I’ve had to do during it’s 270 K of commercial towing life
Sweet find!! I understand you don't have time for more project but this truck could be saved if the frame is not bent
Can be saved and worth saving are not synonymous. For him time is money, and he can earn a decent amount per hour to buy one that’s already good.
@@rydplrs71yea, but good rebuilds are money makers on CZcams. He can make more restoring that truck from ad revenue than his shoo would bring in scrapping it.
@@americansmark I have to choose what cars I want to film, what I want to repair off camera and what gets parted out. Cab swaps involve a vin, which even if you can prove the truck has 89k, the firewall and thus title won’t match, and even though I *suppose* I could swap the vin, being a dealer and doing that kinda thing isn’t worth the risk.
If this truck was stock and not rusty I would try some nonsense but it’s too far gone for the risk.
@@I_Do_Cars that's fair. You know your business far better than us we do.
@@I_Do_Cars Great point. The moment you mentioned the VIN, I immediately thought of my own case in IT (the serial number / service tag on rackmount servers). Those things matter, for many different reasons. Admittedly in my space there's varying degrees of pain folks endure in our 'gray market,' but in yours there are actual *laws* governing how painful some of these procedures are. Totally different level of pain point.
Have a safe rest of your week, and looking forward to Sat. o7
I am not surprised this thing started up. I've seen 20 plus year old heavy equipment fire up the same way. It doesn't know if it was running yesterday or 20 years ago
My dad owns an old opel. The car is from -54 if memory serves me right. A friend of the family bought it as a barnfind. It was put in the literal barn in 1974. The last inspection sticker is still on the car.
The old guy pulled it out, changed the oil and turned the key. Car started after some pumps of the gas, with the 40+ year old petrol in it. He then pulled out another 1965 Opel Kapitän and it did the same. He bought both cars after that and then sold the older one to my dad because he didn't have space for it.
My 2004 F340 6.0 with the Zf6 manual transmission has been the best truck I’ve ever owned, I got it from the original owner with around 360,000 miles and it just crossed over 400,000. Every single thing on it works and it’s fun to drive, tows awesome too and I’d drive it anywhere, I drive it every single day. I’ve done some repairs to it and I am religious about maintenance such as oil and fuel filters but I’ve never done any headgasket work or other major stuff. These trucks are awesome to me because they’re like a modern Highboy, just enough amenities to make you plenty comfortable but not too complicated, and in my opinion pretty easy and cheap to work on.
Nice change of pace! Definitely would love to see more!
It was in such good shape partly because the owner/operator rolled it before he could "improve it further.
Man when It did fire up it was like nothing happened. I might just find a new body if the frames good and bullet proof it while I’m in there
those pipes lol...i'm surprised there aren't fake bollocks hanging from the trailer hitch. nice summer haircut btw
I called it a vintage brodozer... It survived the crusher by sitting around in a lot. Someone thought they were real cool, and when that truck rolled over the engine was turned into a mini time capsule.
Maybe the truck nutz got ripped off in the accident 😫😂
@@volvo09 I found a rolled ‘89 Mustang 5.0 at a junkyard about 15 years ago, it also only had like 90,000 miles on it and looked like it was probably immaculate before it was wrecked. I pulled the rear end out of it and swapped it into my ‘90 5.0. Someone else had already pulled the engine. Even at the time it was pretty rare to find one of those cars with low miles and in good shape. Someone’s former garage queen…
Eric, this would be an amazing PROJECT!!! Find another cab……. It would be great!
retired fleet mechanic here; We had bad luck with the 6.0 L fuel systems. In winter the fuel filter would clog from jelling causing cavitation resulting in micro size air bubbles in the fuel. The fuel would ignite inside the injector ruining them. We also had turbo oil leaks and EGR issues.
Awesome video, Eric. Please do more of these if you have the time.
You call these ones strange? Honestly that burned out Miata video was one of my favourites! It's great to see you tear open an engine but the car project are the peak content for me! It's cool to hear stories of the purchases you've made!
Be cool to see a build series bringing it back to life
Great video. Who woulda thunk it? Started right up after 12 years sitting there collecting dust.
You are correct about how people can break anything despite how well made it is, I have owned many different types over the years and each has its own merit. I have had GM, Ford, Volkswagon, Nissan, Subaru, Landrover and now a Toyota Hilux. I do my best to look after and maintain them carefully and get reliable service in return.
Love these car videos! Do more!! I like the engine tear down videos, but you are also really great at the car videos, too! Really loved the Miata videos, the Mystic Mustang, the recent Silverado video.
I am impressed! Well scored, you will be able to sell most of the parts and sure hope you do a follow up video of this vehicle. Love your channel and have a great day!
Sounds really good!! Great buy👍👍
Great find Eric! Thanks for sharing insight into your industry!
These sorts of videos give us a different insight to the whole salvage process, sure we all love a good engine teardown. This also brings a great variety to your channel. 😎😎
It's fun seeing different aspects of your business. Makes me wish I had gotten into this type of business, never had even considered it before. Keep them coming!
Thanks for posting this, really enjoyed it. Can’t believe that engine fired after so long
Amazing, great video as usual
That rig is MINT! Lot of possibilities there. Pretty awesome it powered up, started and ran. I liked this type of video. Thanks Eric.
I'm seriously impressed. I would never have thought that the engine would run much less run like that. I think you scored well on that risky purchase. Not a fan of "modified" trucks but I think you'll make good money even without selling anything from the interior or body. Great video.

Really enjoy your content, I think what you do is really cool and when I’m able I will be shopping with you. That’s how I show my support.
Great video! Thanks for sharing... 🙂
You hit a home run on that one
Depends on the price.
Let VTuned/23rd Garage/Motorhead_Garage gang fix it... I'm sure they'll figure it out and you can split the profit and get it back on the road 🥳
Amazing. Nice video as always. Your enthusiasm is great
I’m surprised the tow yard didn’t scoop that truck - likely all they had into it was the tow and storage. I used to own a tow yard and I’d have grabbed that thing right away. Easy to get a title for it, just a bit of paperwork and some waiting, and it’s yours.
From the startup, I can tell you have too low fuel pressure coming from the lift pump (underneath the driver's side frame rail).
If I was you, I would do the "Blue Spring" conversion for the fuel system. It's pretty cheap to do, and quite easy to install. I suggest this because it can save the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump). You can check with A-Rod on that.
Keep doing what you're doing, Eric! We're all here cause we like your style... and cheesy jokes! Have a great day, Sir! o7
Notice at the end of the second crank the oil pressure rose. Started instantly on the third crank.
6.0 power stokes don’t have a high pressure fuel pump. The injector uses high pressure oil to make high pressure tule within the injectors
Theres nothing wrong with the fuel system.
Oil system lost prime, needs to push air out of the system. Nothing more
I don't think so, more likely the high pressure oil system needs to be bled or it has a leak. The 6.0 uses high pressure oil to fire the injectors.
All this engine needed was base oil pressure then the hpop kicks in and can fire the injectors. As others have said, soon as the oil pressure switch activated it was going to try to start... And it succeeded.
If anything, from that startup especially if his guys got it running recently... There is a check valve issue probably an incorrect/aftermarket oil filter allowing the filter to drain back and require extended cranking to refill.
Blue spring update is always a good thing to do, but fuel pressure was never the problem for the extended cranking in this video.
Don’t part it out! Can swap then sell it, but first remove the ridiculous lift kit and stacks
but some good ole boy will be willing to pay top dollar for the tacky stacks and over kill lift. it'll say good ole boy from having to hillbillie engineer one out of bedframe rails, bailing wire. Eric just needs to throw train horns on it, it'll easily fetch $30k from some redneck
So good to get a mid week video! Thank you, really enjoyed it.
Absolutely love your videos and your work! The perfect blend of sarcasm, skepticism, and mechanical knowledge all put together in an entertaining format. Can't help with that truck, but it had to be a wild ride at the end of its life.
why do i get the feeling that truck was rolled cause the owner was being stupid with it..... i mean lifted and the silly stack crap generally points to idiot behind the wheel.
Definitely. I wouldn’t expect the engine or transmission to be very healthy after that owners shenanigans either.
Big diesel truck, big lift and tires, big front bumper, big ridiculous exhaust stacks…. seems to me like maybe the previous owner was trying to compensate for something 😂

@@FishFind3000 he probably didn't own it long enough to screw it up that bad, mechanically... thankfully lol
Cab swap ,Please!!!,not a Ford fan ,but that will be an awesome truck when you get done! This one is worth more whole than parts, you can't touch a new vehicle today like that.
I like the changeup with this video! Engine tear downs are awesome, but this was cool too. Learn a lot watching you.
Crazy that the truck ran. Thanks for your content!

Will need a cab and some head studs, and that lift is trash. That said, someone should want it, even if it's 6.0L. I can't imagine why it would sit for so long with such fixable issues.

I too vote for a cab swap.
Talking of indestructable cars, have you seen what the guys did on Top Gear (UK) some years back, to a Toyota Hilux? if not, I totally recommend you search it up. Also, like others, liked this wee off script video too!
Excellent short format video ! That truck was a score ..
This is awesome, I love this type of content. Please make more videos of fixing and diagnosing project cars similar to the burnt miata and 911. Thanks!
