Carpro Essence and CQuartz together forever?

  • In looking for a more budget minded alternative for coating a vehicle for my clients and decided to try a 1 step correction with CarPro Essence. It's supposed to prep the surface for ceramic coating and I know from using it previously it has great filling capabilities which are semi-permanent and can be coated over. So is it a good way to cut the cost on a coating? Stay tuned as I test it on this black Tesla Model X.

Meguiar's DA microfiber D300 plus the microfiber cutting disk. Very fast to correct then followed by carpro essence.

The whole point of what I was doing was to cut out the compounding process to save cost. I probably wouldn't use D300 for a 2 step though. Not that it's a bad product but I bought D300 and Griot's Fast Correcting Cream at the same time when I was just getting started. I still have an almost a half 16oz bottle of D300 and have since gone through over a gallon of Fast Correcting Cream. I just feel like the Griots has such a better buffing cycle and finishes out better.

Pretty sure that Carpro recommends waiting 24hrs after Essence is applied, then coat with Cquartz or use an IPA wipe after curing for at least 1 hour (that’s my understanding) Nice job on the Tesla. I have a midnight silver Tesla and my paint is constantly getting swirls. The clear coat is just really soft and thin. I use Essence because it has a low cut when using a finishing pad and fillers for the swirl marks.

Very nice , I’m gonna get some essence soon what pad did you use ?

Hey Amir, on the hood I used a Griot's yellow polishing pad and it finished out great but once I moved to the side it started leaving a slight haze because of how soft it was. So I switched to a Buff N Shine white finishing pad. Because the paint was so soft I still got good correction even with such a mild combo. If you're working on a lighter colored car you could probably go a little more aggressive, as DA haze is much less noticeable on white and silver.

It may have been sticking because it was being used as a cutting compound instead of a polishing compound...I think your speed was a little fast on the polisher too...you were decently crowded for space that car had some area..

You're right. I was definitely trying to get a bit more cut than the product is designed for. Yes, my garage is very cramped on a vehicle that size, but I rarely work on cars at home.

If I use essence as a one step polish before a coating do I need to wait 24 hours after polishing to apply the coating?

As far as I'm aware you can apply CQuartz as soon as you're done polishing. That's what I did on this car.
