This song was written originally by Simon & Garfunkel about the invention of television. And people stopped talking to each other and were just glued to the box. It could easily be translated to a lot of modern technology and communications. It was quite prophetic about things to come. Ingenious and timeless. Amazing cover. Paul Simon cried when he heard this version of his own song.

In today's world it should be very, very impactful. Somebody once said to me, "We live in the most connected, and yet disconnected, society in human history." Who willingly talks on the phone anymore? Texting has taken over. Your 5,000 friends on social media know what you had for dinner, do they know you?
Music you mentioned. The end of the video one side bringing sheet music over to the side with instruments. 😀 Creativity yes, but communication period. Music is one area where communication actually occurs in society. Although even in music we often hear without listening... background noise.

Say what you will about him, but Paul Simon is simply the most gifted poet laureate of our generation. "...because a vision softly creeping came to me while I was sleeping...." That's Poe, baby. POE!!

This version of the Sound of Silience hit my heart hard. Our son was killed by a Drunk Driver in 2013. It was the path my son Michael had to take that deadly night. I reached out to #Disturbed and their management & asked if they could dedicate this song to our son on the venue he was killed. He was killed when he was attending a concert 😢. Disturbed & their management said they would absolutely do the song in honor of our without question. It was the first time I stepped foot on that venue since his death. In 2016 they dedicated the song and told his story. I was crying so hard as well as my husband, his sister, his wife and his 3 little girls I was so grateful they put it on CZcams. Dedication @ #montagemountain, Scranton, PA.

If you were a kid in the late 60s/early 70s, The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle was being played everywhere, along with the rest of their hit songs. Paul Simon wrote the song in 1963/1964, around the time when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. This song has been played on the radio for decades. Now considered an oldie, but goodie. When Disturbed released their version in 2015, they breathed new life into the song, creating an even more powerful and emotional rendition of this classic anthem. Great song then. Even better now. Great reaction.

Communication. That is what the song is trying to convey. Communication. We have all this technology to make it easier to communicate with one another, but we’re not communicating to with one another (neighbors, people at the grocery stores, all the people that you come in contact around you... everyday people).

From one Dreamer to another, thanks Mega and Mrs. Mega for this reaction. This is arguably the best version ever of this song, even Paul Simon has said so! David has the voice of an Angel and the Devil wrapped into one! I have instructed my kids to play this video at my funeral when I exit this world, such powerful words and meaning. I'd give you my thoughts behind the meaning of this song, but I'll spare you of that, lol. If you haven't yet watched PTX's version of this song, it's also fantastic! According to Art Garfunkel: the meaning of this song "THE INABILITY OF PEOPLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER NOT PARTICULARLY INTENTIONALLY BUT ESPECIALLY EMOTIONALLY, SO WHAT YOU SEE AROUND YOU ARE PEOPLE UNABLE TO LOVE EACH OTHER " The peom 'The Sound of Silent ' consists of five irregular stanzas where the poet presents the CONFLICT BETWEEN SPIRITUAL AND MATERIAL VALUE IN THE MODERN WORLD.

Highly recommend you check out his live version performed on Conan O’Brien. Despite being ill with the flu He sang it even better live. Simon and Garfunkel’s version back in the 60’s was a warning about losing things to modernized world but David’s is the message delivered of what was lost. Extremely powerful. You will be awed by live version. Conan O’Brien. Great reaction!

Song is about how we are losing the ability to communicate due to technology. Everyone is on cell phones, laptops, etc.
The video uses music as an analogy, to get the point across- those with the instruments needed to connect with those with the music sheets in order to make music. But the basic message of the song is the danger of letting technology take over our lives. This is a Simon and Garfunkel song from 1960s. Back then, technology was the TV, now its cell phones, laptops, etc. Disturbed took the original song and covered it in a way that brought out its true message more clearly. Lead singer, David Draiman, has an amazing voice.

❤️ The instruments were scattered and then collected….As the daylight came they saw 10k people across a great expanse who held the sheet music that their instruments should be playing…In the end, the instruments were taken across by boat to be united with the music…
    Blessings!

NOTE: that David Draiman was really sick for the Conan live performance and I heard he was not pleased with his performance, being the perfectionist that he is I can understand why he felt that way. However, the production as a whole was amazing and his performance was EXCEPTIONAL! I loved it. So POWERFUL and EMOTIONAL! Thanks, Diane

Nope the music has nothing to do with it. it has to do with being disconnected in a society where you are connected by technology. Everyone is talking, but saying nothing, people listeninf but not actually hearing what is being said. It was a song by Simon and Garfunkle written in 1966 but is so much more relevant today than back then.

    @maverickf14tomcat13 Před 3 lety +1

The original was written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel known as "The Sound of Silence".
The message was the lack of communication and/or their lack of effective communication. Like the film The Matrix we are plugged in into a fantasy world a virtual reality. 😎 Technology has consumed us to the point that not only though we no longer communicate with one another on a personal level but we no longer can identify with our humanity to love one another EMOTIONALLY. Back in the sixties radio was a well known technology but then TV was introduced and the world was captivated. Today's technology Not only has surpassed that but added insult to injury to the human equation. People are so entrenched that they no longer can identify what the problem is.
The music sheet represents a group of people and the instruments represent the other half of group of people but nevertheless neither two can communicate therefore you have the sound of silence And no one dares to disturb it. Humanity is so caught up in The technological wonders! There are ads, commercials you name it advertising and promoting and we're all caught up in it. The words of the prophets are
    Written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence."
“people talking without speaking” and “people hearing without listening”
Today's technology has made that far more apparent than ever!
"And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made"
We are plugged into technology That it has become a religion a way of life that we all identify with. Humanity, people have given their livelihood to pray to this neon God! Social networks, online video chats, texting etc etc etc etc.
The message from the original "Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel was a WARNING and the Rendition by DISTURBED is the ANGER for not heeding that Warning!
When you get a chance listen to the live version of The Sound of Silence by DISTURBED on the CONAN O'BRIAN SHOW. David Michael Draiman, the lead singer for DISTURBED did a magnificent performance that day even though he was sick with the cold & flu.

My take on the song is not only feeling the meaning of music but, more importantly, the new generation not communicating. We don’t only need to hear, we need to listen to one another. As a teen in the 70s and 80s, I would spend hours talking to my friends. Kids nowadays text, hashtag, Snapchat, post, etc. But, rarely carry on one on one conversations.

Great reaction! If you want to try a totally NEW sound, you should try The HU (pronounced "who"). They are a Mongolian folk metal band and their specialty is throat singing, which allows them to sing two notes at once. They also combine traditional instruments - such as a two-stringed horsehead fiddle and three-stringed, banjo-like instrument, with modern instruments. They are blending traditional sounds/themes of their ancient culture with modern rock. If you try "Yuve Yuve Yu," be sure to click on closed captions so you can see the English lyrics (several of their songs have English subtitles). These guys are taking the world by storm. They have several outstanding videos, including a cover of Metallica's "Sad But True." You may also like their collaboration with Lzzy Hale on "Song of Women." They were also contracted to create the song, "Sugaan Essena," in an alien language for the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game. Give them a try.

David is a Opera trained singer that took his voice into Heavy Metal. His band Disturbed is one of the biggest rock bands of all time. But if you want to hear his voice in action, check out 10,000 fist, or inside the fire.

Right now the song is remake of the Simon and Garfunkel song if she grew up in the sixties or seventies the radio played a lot so basically this is just a remake of The Sounds of Silence the original recorded in 1960s by Simon and Garfunkel

Dam guys! You preach it about it being a vision of music bringing people together from old to new. 8:25 Are we not seeing the younger generations "meeting" the songs of old on the Internet (CZcams)? So many are reacting to the classic songs of early rock. Their hearts are melting and they are becoming one with the original.

I have watched you two for a while now in the back drop thanks to your reactions to Tom #HogFamily. But truly go and read the lyrics and try to truly break down the bars like you do Toms and you will see that they both are trying to tell you something in their own way even in the 60s original. The true power of Music has no boundaries with power, emotion and shows we can hear each other and also be able to speak to each other. Much Luvs you two
