David draiman Was raised as an orthodox Jew. He went on to school to become a Cantor. In the Jewish faith the cantor sings back what the rabbi has just read from the torah in Hebrew. Cantors have very deep Rich Voices with many Tones. Canteors Often times have to hold low notes for a period Of time. It is really beautiful to hear even if you don't understand it Of what I don't But it is beautiful. I would Love for you to do a second reaction to the studio version. The Video Is like another member of the band. it really Adds Another layer to the song. And to see David take it From the opening being so mellow to the rage at the end of the video Is breathtaking. When Paul Simon heard David draiman sing sound of silence He said David was meant to sing sound of silence.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. You may have heard the opening of down with the sickness somewhere. Apparently there are a lot of memes with it. Inside the fire is a really great song. It does deal with the sensitive topic of suicide. When David was younger he came upon his girlfriend who had committed suicide.David Does a PSA At the beginning Discussing why this song is so personal to him. And the opening8 seconds Will just leave you With chills. They have also covered stings if I ever lose my faith in you. There is also a reason to fight

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do and he makes it look so damn easy! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent. Loved your reaction TeeVee and your take on the performance. Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "The Game", "Indestructible", "Stupify", "The Light", "Enough", "Violence Fetish", "Stricken" by Disturbed too. They're a bit heavier than what you just heard....lol....umm....some a lot heavier...lol...

Disturbed - Down With The Sickness

  • @12211219
    @12211219 Před 2 lety

My interpretation of this song revised:
This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing
it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very
long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective
of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the
    perspective of the awakened.
    Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence
Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in
the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing
something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted
the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware.
In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone
under the Light of truth, because they refused to by into the lies the
dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in
the armor of dark, they saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
    No one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence
And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds
    (awakened Ones) telling
those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy
those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle
    way,
but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of
    being attacked
by those that controlled the sound of silence.
They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not
to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became
    aware of the
Light/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time,
    it really pissed them off.
"Fools," said I, "You do not know
    Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them
Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead
remained in the sound of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence."
The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the
things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet.
They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by
consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through
their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the
people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship
sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?

They are normally very heavy metal. Listen to "Down With the Sickness" to get a feel for their typical sound. David Draiman is an amazing vocalist!

  • @ingridbaasbecking2999
    @ingridbaasbecking2999 Před 2 lety

Paul Simon wrote this song in the 1960s. His lyrics were accurately prophetic!
He and Art Garfunkel sang it beautifully then, and the 'little old lady' that is me now grew up in this golden era of great musical development - Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd etc.
S&Gs version was always one of my number one favorites. But now this is my absolute fave track. Disturbed's arrangement is superb, and David's singing surpasses anything I have ever heard outside the classical genre.

They are a heavy metal band. Big known song is Down with the Sickness. David (lead singer) is classically trained. This cover of Simon and Garfunkel is better than the original version by S&G. So much do that after seeing this live performance Paul Simon contacted David and said that he made the song his and that was an outstanding performance. So much do that Paul put the link to this version on his social media pages. Can’t get a better compliment than that!

cool reaction video! just like Metallica performed 'Nothing Else Matters' on the album and also with an orchestra, some heavy metal/metal/hard rock/rock bands/singers have many dimensions to their musicality...Disturbed is showing the world that they can play with orchestras or on their own with style and musicianship at a really high level...Kudos to David Draiman for singing his tail off while being under the weather...I like this version better than the album version as his voice cuts through nicely (in my opinion).

Disturbed has been around since 1994. Listen to 10,000 fists. Classic Disturbed. The Simon and Garfunkel version was in the 60's. They sang it more or less as a warning. We are not communicating with each other, the neon god is reference to the TV. Disturbs version is more felt like why did you not listen to the warning. We have moved away from personal interaction. Listen to the Evolution Album. David and the group are doing more singing then the growling. No matter what they do, they are just amazing!

This is a great version but David Draiman (the singer) was autotuned against his will and knowledge here. Not a lot, but it's there. When the Conan show found out he was sick with a fever of 102 and unable to stand (hence why he is seated the whole time), they decided to go ahead and autotune him. Understandably he was not happy when he found out later. If you want to hear an excellent one where he isn't autotuned and it's still live, I recommend the one where Myles Kennedy harmonizes with him on stage. They duet and become a beautiful 'Simon and Garfunkel' team. It's amazing.
