David Draiman...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. He has a tone to his voice I've never heard before. When he sings....you know who it is. He can go from angelic head voice to rasp/distortion on a dime and back....not easy to do. Also did you notice he can put vibrato on the rasp too? VERY difficult to do. Love your take on it Squirrel.
David Draiman was raised as an Orthodox Jew and his amazing voice is due to the fact that not only was he born with it, but he is also a trained Cantor. I've also learned that David Draiman and Disturbed addresses depression, addiction, and, suicide during every concert, performance offering support and understanding. I have watched so many reactions to this song on CZcams. In almost every case the first word uttered by the watcher was "WOW!!" exactly the same as you did 😀
I had to watch, because I was also nicknamed Squirrel, and love this cover. David was classically trained as a Cantor, but many don’t recognize his control, due to the genre. It’s said that this is the only version Paul Simon has ever endorsed. While I’m a fan of their original music, I have always felt that their covers really show the depth of their talent. They can recreate a song in an entirely different way, without breaking the message of the original. It’s absolutely fascinating.
You must see his live on Conan orchestra and all talk about passion, his rendition/re~make was done with such Class and Respect of another Artists message, “folk”song we called it back then, I loved S&G! and I love Disturbed! I believe they are bringing to light our “tech” world we have succumbed to, in~person stimulation, meeting of the eye is that a thing of the past? Hmmm S&G we’re they predicting the future? I do know this they praised David for his performance of their song~
