Common problems with the E90 N52 - if you plan to keep it check the following 1. Leaking oil filter housing gasket. 2. Leaking oil pan gasket. 3. Intake/Exhaust VANOS. 4. Electronic water pump (change thermostat at the same time) - test with INPA or ISTA D or activate coolant flush sequence. 5. PCV system - especially in cold climates get clogged. I would change the PCV and all hoses considering the age of the vehicle. 6. DISA flaps/valve - a faulty PCV allows oil to enter your intake manifold corroding the DISA flaps. If you have a rough idle or lagged acceleration - replace both flaps. Test monthly with ISTA D. 7. Coils - change regularly. 8. Fuel vent hose - common item that goes bad - check engine codes; 9. Fuel cap - the rubber gets old - leads to “check engine light. 10. IBS - if not repaired will lead to long term electrical issues and premature battery wear. Register new battery with tool of choice anytime you put a new battery in the vehicle. Hope this helps.

Considering the marginal condition, the price is about right. I love the E90 but wouldn’t spend less than $8,000 for one because I want it to look nicer.

  • @randomoverpopulatedworldid3286

I loved my e46 330 standard transmission. It was soooo badass. Bigger tires in the rear even which was nice and heated seats never let you down in the fog/cold. But it fell apart slowly after hitting a very bad pothole on Ocean exit off 280 (be careful for those exits, they kill cars). literally broke all the rubbers and the cat went out shortly after too. After doing so much work on it, we ended up selling it due to cats being very expensive... I sold it to some great guys to strip and race it around a track.
my new one is nice, but no dipstick.... no temp, makes me have to use an OBD on a 2nd phone in the car all the time. it's an old rental car, but not one issue since I bought it expect the drivers door lock actuator broke. that's all. nothing else. great car. We replaced the water pump the day we got it. But, had it 3 years so hence the OBD reader on all the time. Got it for $3950 in CA. very cheap. no salvage!! Red and Blue Motors in San Mateo will take care of you!!

The reason it is so low is because I have bmw mechanics do the work. I go and get it diagnosed and I ask them if they do side work (newsflash most of them do they make more money on the side because nobody is trying to pay dealer prices) bmw quoted ne $1400 for gasket replacement , $850 for starter replacement and $800 for alternator replacement. Managed to snag a Black manual Transmission 2008 328i with all black interior back in April 2020 for 6k (brought them down from 8k by payingcash). It only had 67k miles on it with one owner when I bought it from a Cadillac dealer. I took it to my local BMW to get it fully inspected for anything wrong with it and other than the intake manifold gasket needing replacement the car was in tip-top shape. They told me that it was in amazing condition for a 2008. Got the intake manifold gasket replaced for free with the Cadillacs dealer free 3 month warranty and I've replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils since but other than that it's been running like a dream! When the previous owner first bought it they ordered it with the performance sports package so has the sports seats and a beefier steering wheel as well as oem performance intake and exhaust so sounds beautiful. It's only a 328i but it's still damn fun to drive around.
