7:28 "Sometimes with BMWs, if they're idling rough.......it can be indication of.....well, all sorts of faults" 😆 That is some wisdom 👍🏻
That 1/4 tank of diesel is worth £500 alone 😯
it is not quite a Volvo FH16 - even if it sounds like one :D
I have a 335d and this is accurate
Haha
Which is cheaper in the UK, diesel or premium petrol?
@@spicysnowman8886Premium petrol is more expensive right now. Where I live premium petrol is 169.9p and disease is 165.7p.
For £500, that's an absolute screaming deal Mat. Even at twice the price, I'd have that off you in a heartbeat. You hit the nail on the head, this is a diy'ers dream.
Loving the videos, and good luck going forward.
Let us know what you do with it.
Personally that would be a liability to retail.
Like most old tired cars the sum of it's parts are worth more than it is as a whole
@@julesviolin why a liability, just part ex to clear?
Considering the brakes don’t work it’s illegal to drive this it should have been towed if he got in a accident and they found this video he would also be sued for negligence
@@Viggggggr The brakes work all right and may just need a simple service.
@Ed Straker not sure what car you’re looking at..?
Lovely to see the E91 is still going strong. My E90 325i on a ‘55’ plate has just passed 404,000 miles. I bought it at 150,000 miles and to the best of my knowledge is still on the original clutch, gearbox and exhaust. It had the lifters done at 180k and other than that it’s mainly been suspension issues; springs, dampers, bearings, etc. that have caused me any bother. it’s a bit rusty now but it just goes to show these cars will do the mileage if serviced and maintained.
Well done. Most people only put in fuel and whinge when the engine ceases.
@@robi4387 thanks. It’s filled the service book now. Plenty of suspension bits needed along the way though
Original clutch, how is that possible?
@@JC-gy2kt It might have been replaced before I bought it but I’ve done nearly 260k since then and haven’t had to change it
@@robru ok so original since you got it not original since it came out of factory, I am confuse.
It’s good to see the channel doing so well that you have hired a camera person! Love these videos so helpful when looking for used car gems.

Come onnnn. 330d. I love that engine. M57 is a frickin beast. I have it in my e53 with a remap. Super torquey
A petrol engine is lighter, can rev higher, has more power and doesn't smell absolutely awful.
@@PointNemo9 but doesn't have as much torque and does less to the gallon
I've just noticed the step up in camera work apologies if it's not new and I'm just noticing but it's great. I love these cars keep them coming.
that was a beautiful car. one of the best examples of a older used car yet. amazing video, shots and angles and the way your were describing it throuhout. I actually watched it a few times. definitely try to sell it. such a clean example of a high millage car. definitely lots of life still left in it once all the issues are sorted out.
Different angles on the drive was really nice! Only thing that I missed was you entering the car first time on first person, it feels more like we're with you. In third person it felt far like we didn't get to see the panel, lights, radio test and etc like previous videos, I missed that. But this format is very nice, congrats
I think I prefer these type of videos done on a handheld camera like you used to. Feels more authentic
Was about to comment this exact thing. This feels a bit wanky. Doesn't really fit the channel.
Yep me too.
Prefer them a bit more rustic!
It’s called progress gentlemen!
Jesus you all sound like a bag of laughs
@@andrewgray1934 to each their own. It's less about progress and more about style of video. The reason I and some others watch this channel is for how it was / is presented. This new style just seems out of place with what is essentially the reason this channel (in my uneducated opinion) works so well - Simple to the point and honest. This style of video, while technically an 'upgrade' professionally, is off the mark and out of place here. Went from unique to generic and its a bit of a shame. No doubt a larger audience to cater for is a great thing but can't help but feel it's just a bit anti what this channel has been, up until now, all about.
As you said Matt, not a retail car but for a DIY home mechanic a car that (with a few fixes) will give good service and look way more expensive than the investment, even at a £1k it stunning value, would break for more than that in parts!
Easily, these engines go for minimum £500, let’s say £250 tyres and alloys, £100 gearbox, £100 diff, front bumper easily £100-150. Bonnet £100. Can easily make £1000 profit just from breaking it.
Timing chains are not easy to do on the 3L BMW diesel and they are all common problems it's not if it's when it breaks
@@jameslatimer1432 not on these M57s mate they are very very rare. Even on the newer N57 they are rare just the 4 pot N47 has timing chain issues.
@@jameslatimer1432 shows how much you know about these cars 😬🫣
Nice video Matt I’m still driving around the UK in a 320d touring racked up 213,800 miles so far. Never lets me down, it’s frugal and nice to drive.
Another great video, Matt, and although obviously the subject matter was the Beemer, that XJ you have for sale is an absolute beauty.
Great video again man. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Just bought a 330d e92 yesterday, still getting used to the turbo lag but the power when it kicks in is delightful! Paid a pretty penny for a good example with 65000 miles, what a coincidence you posted a video about one on the same day!
What I love about my e92 335d is the customisation. If you want a piece of spec you dont have, it's generally quite easy to install it aftermarket. Such as reverse camera as an example
Just put some "Stanadyne" injector cleaner in the tank, I used it every other fill up and no smoke or EGR valve trouble ! AND do not let the level in the tank go below a 1/4 as the fuel pumps get too hot and burn out.
Have you got yourself a new camera man! Video is looking good! Just a suggestion, make sure when your cameraman is filming you he gets more of the car in shot. I found myself really wanting to see what was just out of frame. Nice work anyway.
This brings back some memories! Owned an ‘06 saloon one of these back in the day, and with a remap from superchips it went like a rocket and always returned over 40mpg! Great car!
It's a breaker or a doer upper. The previous keeper did the right thing chopping it in - they avoided private buyers wanting a 16 year old car with no issues.
Great video but I think I prefer the vlog format and you doing most of the filming yourself, felt more personal. Just my opinion:)
One of the best Diesel engines ever made!
Matt you really upped the video quality great job man!
Hey Matt, it would be great if you also add to your videos more details and more people - mechanic interactions, etc. This will allow you to tell a more complete story, and I am sure that your 195k people crowd will appreciate longer videos.
Guy from Spain here, you’re absolutely right, with the M package and a good condition overall that’s a 6k euro car and what’s worst, it wouldn’t be to bad if a deal. Love your channel, keep it up!
Road Tax in the UK kills these big cars.
Guy from Spain 🇪🇸 Inner London rules like Ulez and c-charge are killing these cars over here. I have a 330d m sports saloon 117k very well looked after in my 7 years of ownership I’d be very lucky to get 2/3k but for that fact I will hold it and not take peanuts 🥜 for it. I use it very little ulez is £12.50 a day and entering the next boundary c-charge is £15 .. if used daily you can see why this puts people off of owning one ☝🏻
@@duncanmurrant7364 it’s not to bad mine is £225 p/a 2005 diesel .. the newer the car and the bigger the engine that’s where the tax gets silly
Well, the continent is a different story. Most of the Eastern Europeans are driving second hand cars and this keeps the car's value high. Not to mention the steering wheel position. I guess the value of this car could be much better, let's say, in Cyprus, maybe in Malta, as well.
@@duncanmurrant7364 my e90 is one of the smallest cars in my parking lot at school
Starters always last 100-120k on e90's, I reckon your guess is spot on about it having problems.
My e90 has 123k miles on the original starter ruh roh
Nice vid Matt. I do like that you said 'colleagues' rather than anything else. To me that makes them part of the team. I think you are the sort of person you work with rather than for. All the best.....

I just noticed how the production value of your videos is seamlessly gone better over the years... good job and always a good watch..
Thank you
The smoke issue could well be that the crankcase breather needs replacing. They get blocked up, a new Febi one is about £35 and they are fairly easy to change yourself watching a CZcams guide, and you may as well change the air filter whilst your at it. I did mine on my 320d E90 M47 which is almost the same to work on as the 330d M57 just with two less cylinders. Cured my smoke upon acceleration problem.
Scap it it’s done a quarter of 1 million miles
Great video Matt. Loving the new filming style. Just recently bought a black 2010 LCI 330d m sport with 115000 miles for £6.5k. It's such a good car and so nice to drive. The only car I've had that was nice was a 530d 2010 that I had. A bit more room and more luxurious.
in the uk a little overpriced no?
Great new camera work, but I did enjoy the simplicity of your older videos, just you and the camera.
Great video as always! The extra camera angles did add something to the video, although they were at time too close in.
That XJ's gorgeous 😍 already regretting selling mine 2 week's ago 😢...
Me too, I sold mine in January, bought a Lexus es300h. Miss my jags, but don't work anymore so a diesel had to go.
I sold mine as well recently. Don't miss it. Cycle everywhere now and have saved huge amounts of money.
Sure is. Far more interested in that than the usual bland stuff on the roads.
Had one of these, same year. Less miles and higher spec, but hands down best car I have owned. Miss it.
Air filter is a bitch to change, and glow plugs can cause some issues. Starter is a nightmare to change too. For touring it really is effortless.
I completely agree with you, the car is still worth more because of the state is in, and yes in Spain it would be lot more expensive, probably you would only get the set of wheels for that money.
And every time that I see an engine of that kind I always think that a proper repro would make it run better and make it last longer.
I would like to have that car here in Sweden for a lot more than what you paid.
Loving the bump in video production value and content, superb job! Hope POV will come back for some episodes though)
Same here! The pov video is defo better for me...we see more of the car. It's like we are looking it over with you.
Oh no Matt got a Carly note no mention of car vertical today!!
I bought the Carly reader for my Audi at £80 and then found out I had to pay the same again in a subscription to make it fully work. It didn’t, things it said it could do wouldn’t work. A waste of money in my opinion and I sent it back and got a refund.
I'd run a mile. It's so easy to get sucked in by how much car you have for the money but unless you do your own work it will be a huge money pit.
I liked how you got your ads in without making them intrusive, clever seeing as many of us have paid YT subs for no ads.
Well done on the cam assistant, the colour grade and the opening aspect ratio switch ;) And of course, excellent vid as always, Matt.
Thanks for noticing
Top tier video again, really enjoyed the different filming angles on the drive 👌🏽

That was really good Matt. The E90 still feels like a current car to me. My wife and I have had two. My dad now has my wife's old car. It's a 330i saloon. 06 plate. Just over a hundred k. It's a great car.

Great video. Stepped up the editing even more! As to the car, that would be easily $5k here in Florida if not more. The UK has a ton of cheap cars, but over here it's near impossible, especially with the current post-Covid market
Excellent and interesting. Great channel that's getting better all the time, cheers Matt.
Indeed there is a lot of life left in this car, with a few fixes and regular maintenance it can live a long life...generally speaking it looks lovely!

Great content as always 👍

My favourite type of video + one of my favourite cars, keep it up mate we love it when you do these vids. Soon touch 200k
I had a 535d from that era and I was fixing something every week: mine was 10 year old, full dealer history and 1 owner with 80k. You’ll need a new micro switch for the tailgate which is about £50. The central locking not working could be water in the module which is under the spoiler on the tailgate. The blower motor is an easy swap under the glove box. Keep an eye on the rear lights as the wiring is routed thru the hinges for the tailgate, they’re a common fail
I looked at one very similar to this in Surrey in about April for about £3k. It was auto and it was only 110,000 miles but it was tatty. Too tatty, so I walked, but it was a joy to drive. That one you have there must be worth easily £1000 as it is. That is a fast car, and tragically as parts, worth a lot more dead than alive. (in the UK)
Good video as always but really do prefer when you done the filming so we seen everything from your point of view.
Totally agree.
Yep. This one is edited nicely and looks more ‘pro’, but I prefer the POV videos as well
No service history but you have a couple of cupholders Sir, said the Sales Manager Matt said enthusiastically to Mr Mrs Jones from Leeds who had driven all the way to see the car. Matt you bloody funny mate
Loving the production value your bringing
I see the filming has come on a stage, amazing work. 👏 we had a 2011 one of these (very slight face-lift from 2009) and I loved it, I think aside from the fact ours had no idrive so quite old tech it was a better car than the 2015 one we replaced it with, just solid and quality compared to its replacement.
Yes, the newer cars are poorer build quality across the board. I've a 2009 520 with 252k miles. (Alot of work hone into it, exclusively suspension and intake carbon) but very solid motor under it all.
Enjoyed the video, down to earth opinion about a honest car. Got some mixed feeling about the changes in video filming, while introducing the car we got to see your face more than the car itself, nothing against your visage, pretty sure no one can disagree that you are handsome but when presenting the boot we get to see your face more than the item being presented.Static shots were a great improvement! So yeah.....keep up the good work and don't stop improving.
Agree
Agree. I assume he is now paying for a cameraman? Obviously has plenty of money to spare..! I hate all this “in ya face” filming that seems to be the trend on YT at the moment…
Agreed. The quality of the content is still great (and obviously the filming is better from a purely "technical" perspective) but I did enjoy the old way the videos were presented much more. Seeing the reflection of the go-pro in the paintwork etc ... felt more genuine and authentic.
This was still a great video and I'll continue to watch, but the style of filming kind of gives me "low budget music video" vibes.
Static shots etc are all a top idea though.
Good video as usual but not a fan of the camera work
FairPlay to you for the effort you put into saving that one. Nice work fella….. up the Spurs
Love your XJ Matt. Beautiful colour combo!!
FYI Matt, To open the split glass tailgate there is a pull latch on the stem of the rear wiper. but the latch only works if the car is opened on the fob. The steering on that era 3 series was mechanical. the next gen was fly by wire much lighter but you still get acceptable feedback
that looks like a good DIY project. Nothing major on there... just a couple of weekend jobs
Not sure about fly-by-wire 😅 The difference is hydraulic vs electric assistance from e90 to f30.
Fly by wire steering 🤣
@@nmeister67 Okay I paraphrased. You knew what I meant EPS assistance... The thing that has taken away a lot of the BMW steering feedback through the wheel. Personally I don't mind it. makes navigating carpark spaces a damn sight easier, but it does mean that some people will be less smooth when turning out of a junction as it's too easy to throw the wheel right round
The latest models will be drive by wire soon. Not sure about having no mechanical connection to the rack... Time will tell

What a bargain! Great video again. Not sure about the camera work, takes a bit of getting used to this format but excellent content as always
UK buyers easily persuaded into M Sport, because we are all road warriors and need all the extra zero hp we can get. SE usually much better bet 🤷🏻♂️
330d is a beast of an engine
one of the best diesel engines ever had a 530d with the same block. perfect for the motorway.....
Interesting video. I especially enjoy your low cost finds. Your car would fetch about $4500 here in my part of the states. Insane what folks are pricing some complete trash at. Enjoyed your take on the car. Thanks.
UK cars (or any RHD country) always loose value fast for many reasons. One of the reasons of not being able to be exported for good money to LHD countries.
Blower motor failures are usually due to the resistor unit, which for my X5, was less than £100. The key fobs are supposed to charge when plugged into the dash, so may just be the battery. Oil change intervals for BMWs (and many other manufacturers) are often on the high side as they like to woo the fleet market and this reduces service costs. Some windscreen cleaner on a cloth can be used to clean the wiper blades, that may sort the noise out there. And bonnet cables snap, as they do on many cars, fix it before it gives up altogether.
Unless the car has 500k km :D I just replaced the brushes from one for 10€ :P
You never "clean" your wiper blades, specially standard rubber ones.
If you scrub them you actually Make them worse, wiper blade rubber creates oxcidated layer on top of the soft rubber and as soon as you force clean them they Will turn bad...
Besides, you should change wiper blades at least once per year unless you live in no rain zone...i change blades twice per year but i live in Finland where you actually use wipers for half of The year and winter weather really destroys all wipers, rubber made and silicone ones.
@@jkarra2334 We have to here in the UK, we get a lot of dirty rain here which carries particles of dust which can build up in a very short period of time. I don't scrub them though, just a wipe with a soft cloth usually when washing the rest of the car. Every few washes, they get a wipe with Autoglym glass cleaner, and they do the job better after a clean. We don't get such low temperatures in winter as you do either, so a quality brand of blade will easily last 2 winters.
@@jkarra2334 There is a video by Scotty Kilmer, where he talks about wiper blades which last longer. Wiper Blades are planned obsolescence.
Hi Rob i’m looking to buy a bmw 318i and you seem like someone who knows a lot about cars. Can I contact you on instagram or whatsapp or something to show you a few cars so you can tell me if there’s any big red flags?
Here in the UK most people don't want a car with 100,000 miles on but they are in most cases the better cars as if they have 100k miles or more than they have been well looked after
Exactly, and when like mine they reach quarter of a million miles without issue you know they are basically indestructible! If something hasn't killed them by now it never will kind of thing (engine-wise)
Just bought this exact car for £1000 with all the bells and whistles. Very happy with it except the sunroof leaks! Probably a good thing you said in the video that your one didn't have one. Spot on.
The 330d tourer is a brilliant car, looked after these are a fantastic mileage muncher, still a great looking car, one of the best small estate cars going, classy
Nice upgrade to the video 👍🏻 and yeah, this car would cost you €5.000 at least, in Italy. For the first time, you got a real bargain Matt 👏🏻
No wonder, an LHD car has a bit wider market lol
I noticed an upgrade in videography, not that it was bad previously. Great work !!!
Had an E91 also but a 318i which was pretty gutless tbh ,rear wipers are always going belly up on these but usually an easy fix ,ride is really firm due to runflats….👍
Love the improved video quality but please use a wider angle lens for the outdoor shots.
You’re right about how spoiled we are here in the UK . That car would be much sought after in downtown Mogadishu 😀
I miss my old last of the run e46 with this power house, even though it "officially" had 204 bhp it would easily sail off the clock if you were feeling juvenile, Jenson Button famously got caught by the French plod doing exactly that 🤣
Ah I didn’t know that
E46 330’s here in the US regularly go for $7-8k. M-Sport for even more, and 02 M3’s have been going for $16-20k
Good video as always Matt, btw diesels will blacken the oil as soon as the engine is started after an oil change
Not a bad motor for £500. Needs some bosch aerotwins ASAP 😉👍.
I still think these and the e60 5-series BMWs are the best they have ever made (apart from the e39 m5, which in my opinion is hands down the best BMW ever made).
I just recently drove a brand new 2022 540i and I would still rather drive the old raggety e60 530d with 300k+ miles (yes, we have one in the family).
The heavy steering you are "complaining" about is what makes it such a great car. You feel the road really well instead of being able to do everything with your pinky and feel nothing at all.
Also, the engine in the 330d is basically bulletproof if you look after it and the gearbox seems to hold strong too.
Obviously the e9x 330d is an expensive car to maintain, but then again it is one of the best cars ever made.
Good looking car still, nice dark grey colour. Interior looks in a good state. I'm considering getting a 3-series wagon of this generation as a 2nd car for a year or two while doing house renovations. Seems like a practical and still somewhat fun option. Either this, or an Alfa Romeo 159 wagon.

I live in Spain close to Estepona & you're spot on about the price of cars here. Especially on the Costa. Crazy prices. I am however, looking to buy a BMW 330d here. Love those cars.
6:10 Of course the oil is black, 5 miles after changing it will turn black again! Diesels discolor oil very quickly so this is normal.
Yeah, that is what 3 mechs told me during regular oil change in my new Ford, sadly there was no 4th. Dirty oil killed the engine.
@biska131 There's 8L of oil in this engine though, and it rarely suffers from any oil related issues, even with long oil change intervals. The oil in mine is black as the ace of spades after 1000mi, but still in grade and no signs of wear according to used oil analysis after 15k miles.
Another interesting video Matt. I had a 2006 320d saloon and it was a fantastic car, although I do think the touring 320d is a much better looking car. Definitely worth more than £500.
