Just to let everybody know: the fuel systems on these are fine (N57 engine this). The only reason they fail so often (or atleast it seems that they do) is because people that drive BMWs are too cheap and put 10£ of fuel each time and sometimes even let it run dry. This is how you introduce a bunch of air and heat into the fuel system and destroy the high pressure fuel pump. Then it sends shavings throughout the whole system. You then need to replace: high pressure fuel pump, all injectors, clean all the lines, clean the fuel tank. It's a massive job.
So please, DO NOT LET IT RUN DRY. Same applies to 2 litre N47 engines too. Just fill it with fuel when it's on 1/5 of the tank. Don't wait.

Watching Matts videos you notice a strange relationship between people and cars. The newer more expensive cars seem to be looked after whereas the cheap slightly older ones are run into the ground. Then when both of these types become really old everyone loves them and no expense will be spared to keep it at its best like Matts SL.

I don't know exactly what the price actually was in pounds when new! But I can assure you it was in between the 5 and the 7 series! So, basically, expensive! Although the exterior is awkward (matter of fact it's kind of a marmite car; you either hate it or love it) it's a clever car because with less money than a 7 series, you have an unconventional car which gives you a bigger interior space than a 5 series F10/11, a better practicality, the same amount of legroom in the back as in the 7 series and the same headroom as in the X5! All of this, on the second hand market........ At a WAAAAAAAAAY lower price than an X5, X6 or SUVs in general

Hi Matt - great video as always. When you mentioned the non-folding mirrors, I did wonder whether you were simply travelling too fast for them to fold. After all, trying to fold your mirrors at say, 30 mph, would be a safety issue surely? Scrolling down through the comments afterwards it seems I was right and that if you had Goggled it, you'd have found the info you needed. A lesson for the future, no doubt. Also, if your mechanic watches your videos, which he possibly does, perhaps he is feeling suitably embarrassed at his charge for 'fixing' the mirrors?

They do offer a brilliant amount of versatile for the money, even if the early versions are quite visually challenging; although by the LCI 3 GT and 6 GT they do like quite cool in my opinion! I still don't get the point of the GT series other than parting muppets from their money. Each model is:
      1. No bigger on the inside that it's non-GT counterpart
      2. Has less headroom in the rear because of the rear roofline than it's non-GT counterpart
      3. It's more expensive to purchase and slower/less efficient than it's non-GT counterpart
      4. Worse to drive (like an SUV) i.e. it might be trying to look sporty but you can't cheat physics compared to a saloon
      5. Can't go offroad
      5. My eyes.............................just look at it 🤮🤮

This is a lot of car for the price.
Regarding the interior blind, I can totally understand your choice, it would have virtually wiped out your profit if you had paid £1000, to have it rectified.
After all it’s a 13 year old car, it can’t be expected to rival a brand new model.
    As always, great content Matt❤.

So, I've got a 740i and the wife's got one of these (in six-cylinder petrol guise). Great car, the GT', fast enough, comfortable and safe as houses.
(Edit) Also, I'd have fixed the blind and jacked the asking price up a grand. A BMW guy will immediately know that's not right and'll probably be sketched out.

I bought one of these because of your original video on them a few years back, your comment on the drawer for crisps sold me on it! There’s a thread on the FB 5GT page ref blind replacement. 400 quid or so if I remember. I just took mine off and had a dark limo tint put on. Great cars

I agree with the removal of said blind. Every car that has a panoramic roof, and that I have sat in, has always had it open, pretty much useless. The next person who owns it can simply deal with the expense of paying for a new blind, or tinting it if preffered. Definitely not cutting corners in the slightest Matt! 🙂plus a nice change from the cheap that gives nothing but headaches 😂

Better option with the blind would have been to roll the existing one back and disable the motor (pull the plug) , thus giving the next owner the option. This would of cost even less to do and still of looked factory. Upstairs for thinking Matt 😉

This is what I wanted when I was pressed to buy a X3. Liked their (at the time) odd look but loved the internal space and ride. The spend on repairing the blind was too much and I’ve have had something like what you decided done to resolve. BUT I’d have had to tint the glass. I’ve sat in the back of cars with glass s’roof and the blind retracted, the glare on even overcast days hard to bear. So, I’d have tinted it to compensate. Glad you had one of these in your stock as I was right away interested to hear your take. 👍🏻

I used to own a 530d GT. It's a fantastically versatile car - drop the seats and you have a massive load floor and a big tailgate, with seats up and the parcel shelf in place it's a luxurious saloon in a way that my current 5-series Touring never quite manages. The most important of the extras on this car are the reverse cameras. Rear visibility is very restricted, and it's a big barge. Even with parking sensors I kept reversing into things.

  • @pleenc30
    @pleenc30 Před 8 měsíci

Matt, i think that is a spot on and fair job prep wise.
one think i may have perhaps had done is a mirror tint added to the sunroof to deflect some of the heat and tone it down a little
I am very much a sunroof is the one option i insist on person, i know most are interferent about them, but on my Golf R is was the one option i was adamant on.
Yes its a bit more expensive compared to the cheaper scruffier ones out there, but it is a lot of car for the money.
