"An absolute masterpiece." Well said Harry. Following the progress on this car has been a real pleasure.
Bravo
What a great skill
This whole series has been absolutely fantastic. A showcase in real craftsmanship.
Unbelievable craftsmanship. I just do not want to know how much this has costs, but I love that you spend it on a car that you genuinely love instead of a modern run-of-the-mill supercar.
Its a pretty extensive restoration, Those are never cheap, especially with cars that you cant really get parts for easily. But there is just something about doing custom body work to keep an old car on the road or get it back on the road like it was new. Way more worth the money than running out to buy the newest piece of eye candy.
I wouldn’t mind knowing what it costs. My wild guess is around US$50-60k for the bodywork resto; mechanicals would be on top of that. Just my guess.
Maybe $100k all-in? What do you think?
It's the actual car that turned Harry into a "petrol head"!
@@lebojay a good paint job costs about 20-30k, Project Binky's paint job was a 30k paint job, but that is a real fancy paint job especially for a classic mini. This had lots of bodywork done that could easy be 20k so my guess is bodywork and paint £50k, engine is extra . Lucky for us harry normally tells us the costs at the end
His Jag cost around £60K to restore, so at a guess I would think around £45K
Never has anyone made anything so fiendishly difficult seem so totally simple as Adrian does when rolling the doors! I am in awe of the skill
Absolute art.. unbelievable skill and confidence in his knowledge.. Well done chaps.
@@Martin_in_Cheltenham
Handling the English Wheel certainly is an art that takes years to learn. This gent is a Master at it.
I don't understand how these guys do what they do, what I do understand is the results... and they are spectacular. We need more people like these guys in the world. Witchcraft as far as I'm concerned
True craftsmanship. These are master craftsmen within their trade. Five hundred years ago they would've built and installed church organs from scratch.
It's certainly becoming a lost art, unfortunately.
Yes these guys are fantastic in what they do! Great work…
I knew Sam 25 years ago and he was the top man for paint and bodywork back then too!
@@ingvarhallstrom2306 If you're interested, a traditionnal company, Casavant, with an intresting history, still build and restore grand organs around the world. Right here in Québec, Canada. The process is impressive and has been the subjet of some documentaries. Google the name, worth a look !
That gentleman working the steel truly is a national treasure, what an incredible artisan.
It’s Sunday. It’s Harrys garage. Perfect 👍
They’ve literally made a whole new chassis at this point lol. Proper craftsmen.
Indeed, I did wonder though does the extent of the work diminish the value as less of the original car is left? Or does the quality of the work override this? Hopefully the latter for Mr Metcalfe! 🙏
The body was basically filler. Never seen so much filler in a car. Amazing result
@@professorcalculus5315 The cost of this restoration will be many times the final value of the car, it is a labour of love! As to originality, I doubt any 70s Lancias are even close to original now!
Yes, I agree entirely. These men are artisans, they know metal and how it behaves. They don’t need drawings or CAD. They are intimately attuned to metal, probably at atomic level. We would be insane to lose the skills these men possess. They need some interested young people in there, training at the masters elbow, as it were. Love it. And I’ve loved and lusted after a Fulvia zagato
I saw Harry at McDonald's near Horsham on the way back from goodwood FOS on Friday. I excitedly pointed out to the Mrs a Project 8 Jag pulling into a space, only for the man himself to climb out and go inside. Made my day even after the supercar run at Goodwood!
I saw him on the Lotus stand chatting to Jenson.
Oh God no😲 not McDonald's !
@@decayintheuk He was either very hungry or his taste in cars far exceeds his taste in cuisine 😮🍔💩
@@thefamilyrobbo How do you think he affords these restorations? It'll be a diet of Smart Price baked beans at home!
Harry, without people like you,who financed this project , cars like this beauty would be no more,so thanks.
I agree , many people would have let it go to the tip , now its been saved
for future generations to admire . Well done Harry for saving this beautiful
car
Hmm, I think that CZcams saved this car. It was financially a waste of money for an individual. Do I need to say that I won’t be asking Harry to check out my next purchase! Every one of his cars that ends up in the hands of a specialist turns out to have been fundamentally crocked when he bought it! Watch Ian Tyrell riding in his Miura that he took in with a minor problem “Let’s stop now and go straight back to the workshop!”
@@Eastbarn1 Yeah he can't help himself when it comes to a good ebay bargain, why spend 30k on a concours car when you can spend 5k on a runner before spending 60k to do it up?
@@Munkenba It's an easy mistake to make when you want something....easy with both cars & women!
@@Eastbarn1 lol. it wasn’t a Muira.
Watching this you just know that this car is now better than when it left the factory - what absolute craftsmanship. Love the story behind it and Harry was the right man to take it to his level - things have came full circle.
Just finished watching Iain Tyrrell now Harry’s Garage . Wonderful
The skills of the shetal metal guy are unreal, it's so sad that this type of job is now frowned upon by the young, a guy like this is a craftsman of the highest order , modern graduates take note and show some respect.
I was taught by an ex Rolls Royce sheet metal worker who was responsible for making the exterior radiator casing! He was brilliant in wanting to pass on his skills to a new younger generation! RIP Harold.... Still fondly remembered! (P.S. To clarify.... I'm now 72) 🤗
@@JRattheranch You owe it to him to pass those skills on. Even if its just to the grandkids.
This is addictive watching , when an old guy like that goes into semi retirement
( well deserved ) I do wonder who on earth can replace his skills ?
A fair assessment. The problem with any skill of this type is that it takes years to master, requiring constant stroking to maintain and improve it. Most importantly it doesn't deliver any rewards within two weeks and can't compete with the smartphone calling for attention since it was put down three minutes ago.
@@budbud2509 They’re getting rarer, but the skills are still out there.
Mass-production has pushed down demand for it and stuff like 3d printing is doing the same - but there will always be enough demand to keep the trade alive.
Bit like some people still have thatched roofs so there are still thatchers.
That steel tailgate is an absolute work of art. So glad Adrian was able to fabricate it, rather than use fibreglass. You could tell by Adrian's face in earlier episodes, he wasn't at all happy at the idea of that. Going to the extreme efforts they have to hand build and restore the car so far, you can perfectly understand why. Much as I love the Jaguar restoration, this Zagato really is on another level all together. An Italian masterpiece. Thank you so much for going to such extraordinary lengths. Repaint the car in the original colour scheme, please.
This will be the best Lancia Fulvia in existence. Dare we ask for a cost breakdown when it is finished. I cannot imagine the amount of labor between the body, engine and interior. You will be a brave soul slinging it around English B roads.
It's amazing what work goes on behind the doors of a small industrial unit. Harry's road test videos might be some of the best on You Tube but these workshop videos are the real gold.
Two very humble craftsmen, best of British, no bragging they just get on with the task in hand.
Worth his weight in gold Adrian is. If ever there was a skill to pass on to the next generation, what he doesn't know about shaping metal is simply not worth knowing. Stunning Harry, so glad they were willing to be on camera for us to see.
What a perfect craftmanship! Good to know, that this is possible in these days! Cheers from Germany
The pride in their work, it’s great to see people so passionate about what they do.
I don't know how much these guys earn, but it's not enough, such wonderful skills. It's been good to watch this rebuild/restoration. Looking forward to seeing the car finished.
Proper skills! the majority have been lost in this world cause of quicker processes fibre glass etc.
As a time served aircraft fitter its great to see someone still a master of the English wheel 😎.
Had some great ones at bae Brough back in the day, could make anything fit anything with a wheel, a big hammer and a leather sand bag and a few different blocks of shaped wood for hitting! .
Thanks Harry can't wait for next installment days
Ahh, finally. 😃
The sheer amount of craftmanship is amazing. A true metal artist. 😃👌
The colour? I don’t know, what about “Laverda-orange”?
An inspiration, knowing that there are shops out there that can do this level of work. All we have to do is find them...
Fortunately most classic cars haven't been styled by a extravagant Italian after a very good Italian lunch!. I'm sure this video will generate a lot more work for the shop when owners realise how 'out of shape' their own example really is!
This series has been addictive viewing. Thank you so much and for the stream of insightful comments from both you and the guys carrying out the work.
You think its made by some laser guided machine. But no its made by an absolute craftsmen. Thank god they are still out there. These skills must not be allowed to die.
I just can't get over the level of skill here, jesus christ these guys are literally incredible.
BLASPHEMER!!!!!!!!!!
That's the video I've been eagerly waiting for, Harry! It truly is a masterpiece, it's very likely that the body wasn't this good even when the car was first built at the Zagato workshop. I'm also glad you like the original look with Rosso San Siro and the black stripe on the bonnet. It's going to look ace once finished!
Thanks for your kind comment, I have a feeling you might be right about the bodywork on this example now being better than it was when new!
THIS GUY NEEDS 50+ APPRENTICES RIGHT NOW!!! THESE SKILLS SHOULD NEVER EVER DIE GUYS!!! 😉😉😉😎😎😎🔥🔥👌👌👌👏👏👏💪💪💪👍👍👍
I took 3 years of auto body classes in high school and couldn't be more impressed with these guys. Just a stupefying amount of work, care and skill to bring the Lancia to this level.
The talent this gentleman has is extraordinarily, and a dying breed. An artisan and a joy to watch. It’s like watching a work of art come to life!
I have always loved this Zagato. As a schoolboy in the early seventies, I used to collect the sales brochures of all the cars ( Wish I still had them!) and I had the brochure for this model. The two gentlemen working on your car here, Harry, are absolute craftsmen and I am so,so impressed. Can't wait to see the car back on the road.
I would get comfortable and watch a documentary of almost any lenght just to enjoy the craftmanship demonstrated by these guys.
Master craftsmen at work again 👍
These men are gold. Bringing a ruined car back to its full glory.
Loved the Jag restoration but this is the one I can’t wait to see finished. Love it.
Stunning work by the lads, loving the Lancia in fact I think it may well be my favourite in the garage.
I’ve said it before but this channel is by far the best automotive channel on any media. Where else do you get, Silverstone Auctions, restoration of classics, road testing past great cars and current supercars, expeditions to the Sahara, Artic Circle and Dakar Rally expeditions. The depth and range of the content here along with Harry’s unsurpassed knowledge given in his non condescending matter of fact way is just brilliant.
Agree! Harry deliver a whole range of interesting car and travel content - and he got me watching Tyrrell´s Classic Workshop; another pearl of a channel :-)
Harry is such an avuncular fella. He’s the cool uncle I never had growing up.
I almost laughed out loud at Adrian's casual way he describes making all these panels and parts, this is supernatural skill on display here -truly astonishing!
Adrian's knowledge and skill is incredible. I hope there are young people at the shop to learn from Adrian and continue the trade of restoring classic cars.
Does anyone else appreciate the amount of skill it takes to make those panels, craftsmen!
I never tire of watching artisans restore wonderful cars..
We are honoured who are following this build
The craftsmanship is out of this world and the attention to detail beyond belief
This will be the best one “ in the world “ to quote a former TG presenter 🙏
As good as Harry’s videos get
Adrian is so talented and humble when being interviewed. Wonderful viewing.
Thanks! Watching someone make using the wheel look easy is amazing.
The world is incredible - that people as wealthy and as caring as Harry can afford to make this happen - and that folk like these two chaps exist who can actually do the task!
Oh Harry, that workmanship gave me goosebumps, you may have waited but my god that car is a keeper now.
👌 👏
It's got to be a keeper it will have cost Harry an absolute fortune when finished. 😭
I'm a welder. The metalwork on display here is astonishingly good. Hats off.
Love it when at 17.04 he says "And it will be absolutely perfect".
Never have I totally believed such a bold promise!!
This content is pure gold, thanks Harry.
Having watched all episodes of this restoration I am continually amazed at the craftsmanship shown by both Adrian and Sam in their respective fields. I hope that they are both teaching the next upcoming generation to ensure that this level of skill continues way into the future. Absolutely brilliant.
"Like" isn't enough, Harry! LOVE is closer. Love for the skills, love for the empathy, Love for the final result being cared for.
If you've ever worked with metal, trying to produce something, you'll instantly understand that this level of craftsmanship is just outstanding.
It’s great to see genuine craftsmen getting this deserved recognition. The level of effort and detail is outstanding, all done without modern mass numbered manufacturing techniques. Totally awesome work. Huge respect.
Completely agree, and the genuine modesty and humble approach they have to their talent makes it all the more pleasurable to watch.
I am in absolute awe at the skills of these artisan craftsmen. Hopefully Harry will turn these installments into a documentary that showcases this amazing vehicle and the incredibly talented men who sculpted it to new life. The anticipation of your subscribers is evident, can’t imagine how it Harry must feel. Thanks
This was already a pretty staggering transformation, but with bodywork as finely fettled as that it's surely going to be one of the very best examples in existence. The chaps really are metal magicians!
British craftsmanship and Italian design. Great work. Love it👌🔥🇬🇧🇮🇹
Those guys are artists.
Good lord, the craftsmanship that’s gone into this, calling it a masterpiece is bang on
im always looking fwd to my sunday with a new harry video
Literally a masterpiece. I liked the way they were pointing at imperceptible problem areas and commenting how these would absolutely need fixing. The very opposite of “adequate”. Real pride in the work and rightly so. Harry will end up owning the best one in existence.
You can already see and appreciate the lines of the body. True craftsmanship.
It's a shame there couldn't be a couple of young apprentices working with and watching every step of the process as these craftsmen work their magic.
These kind of persishable skills are nearly impossible to resurrect once lost.
The new engine looks wicked...can't wait to see an episode all about it, Harry.
The level of craftsmanship is staggering. So glad Harry is putting money into cars like this, even if it makes little financial sense. The emotional relationship with these cars is where the true value lies.
Truly outstanding craftsmanship from masters of their craft. Could you imagine the fear of leaving it in a car park and worrying about someone opening a door onto it or being careless with a buggy or shopping trolly 😬. Thank you Harry for bringing this to us.
The car is beyond amazing. This shop is now legendary to many. WOW.
You know the sheet metal work is pretty close to perfection when there’s no body filler needed before painting the car, looking forward to the next upload with this car in it

Harry was not wrong. Definitely addictive viewing. I'm in awe of the craftsmanship.
Nothing like watching a true craftsman! What a pleasure.
This body work is a black art...incredible that there is still magicians around that can do this!.
Two very skilful guys, who know their trade inside out. The type of guys you want to work on your pride and joy and have faith in.
The craftsmanship that has gone into the restoration of both the bodywork and the engine of this little Lancia is phenomenal. But I think it is also worth acknowledging the value of the videos Harry has made documenting this whole process. They will surely add significantly to enthusiasts' interest in this particular car in future and, for what it's worth, its monetary value.
It is great to know that such metal-working craftsmanship exists and to be able to see its results (i.e. the finished car), and even better to have recorded and replayable evidence of the craftsmen and the work they do in action that the average Joe (and Joanne) can see on CZcams. What a project!
What a fantastic restoration! A new car that's made of metal again at last! I wonder how much lighter it is now?
Can’t help but admire the craftmanship of the italians in the 60’s And now these guys!
My only regret is that I can only give you and these marvellous craftsmen one " like", superb work. That little engine is a sculpture.
As the saying goes, it takes a lot of skill, dedication and not a little money to unbodge a bodge. Chapeaux, a wonderful storyline. I remember scrabbling around a very rusty Lancia in a scrapyard, back in the 70’s, collecting V4 engine bits.
These guys are hero's...legends....all of them. Including Harry. These are skills that tend to be lost over time. 🙏🏼
That tailgate is a work of art. Proper craftsmanship.
Being able to make those door skins and the rear hatch is the sign of a true artisan. 👍✊
I think Adrian has enjoyed this project as much as we have. A true master at work. Just don't crash it after all that work!
I shed a few tears watching that!
Just love watching this project. Lancias and Alfas of this era were of classic beauty.
These guys prove Britain has got REAL talent - make it look so easy , this is going to be so good alongside the Jag
Body shop people, especially of this standard are like magicians to me. They seem to be able to achieve the impossible. Amazing work!
The skill of these guys is amazing .
I was never a big fan of the Fulvia but now, I'm totally addicted to them. This made me appreciate them to a whole new level. Cannot wait to see more.
The Fulvia is one of the prettiest cars ever made. I’m more a fan of the twin headlight front end but I do love the Zagato. It’ll be incredible when it’s finally finished, probably the best there is or has ever been.
I'm a former spray painter/panel beater but that is far beyond what I was ever asked to do. I did some fabrication of panels but never have I used an English wheel, that is the tool that separates the men from the boys in fabrication. I'd hate to see the bill for this but whatever it is, it's worth it as you won't find many people capable, let alone prepared to do what you've got from these guys. I'm hugely impressed.
Blown away by the skills used to make the metal tailgate from scratch. Door skins profiled on the English wheel….. The pride these guys have in their work. I bet it’s not cheap. If you’ve ever tried welding and fettling a panel on a home restoration, this puts your efforts in to the shade.
Sheet metal master workers! To see how one of them worked the manual pressing roller with such grace in the to and fro rhythm demonstrated the complete authority he has over sheet metal working. Beautiful work. The completed car has geometrically perfect roundnesses in the Fulvia surfaces. It may not be even geometrically perfect, but the overall effect is beautiful because it reflects the natural rhythm of hand metal working and the rhythms of the human mind. Marvellous.
crisping up those body lines really transformed this car! She's a stunner
All thriller NO Filler.....Phenomenal work by those fellows!
What a joy to watch true craftsmen at work.
To watch a master metal worker at work is a joy. Can’t wait to see the finished car.
These craftsmen are simply amazing. Love watching this.
These Lancia restoration videos are my absolute favorite on the Harry's Garage channel. Absolutely stunning work.

Adrian is a master. I just can't fathom how anybody can be this talented at making body panels. I've never even seen or heard of anybody else making a complete replica tailgate panel from scratch to this standard. Conventional wisdom in car circles says it's not possible - either buy a used part or a replica made of composites.
Very much looking forward to seeing Sam's handiwork with the paint too.
Sam is really working metal miracles, I've learned some basic metal work, and did quite a bit of body work, stretching, patching, welding and all that, but it only makes me realise even more the wonders he is working..
Great job highlighting these craftsmen and encouraging them talk about their work.
Artisans at their work , with nothing but perfection being their goal. Highly evocative to watch, as always , you can virtually picture the finished product before they finished
This is artistry! Craftsmanship at the highest level. I am in awe of the mastery of this man. Just… gobsmacked.
Now that's what you call craftsmanship - just WOW!
Pure class workmanship lads. What superp engineers. Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.
