Ali was the bravest of all Sahabas, his love for abu bakr, Umar and uthman was unconditional. Sunni's version of Ali was brave and strong with truth in his tongue. The way shia present ali may allah be pleased with him is not courages.
Imam Ali (Pbuh) can't be compared to the sahabah. He's something else. On another level. Imam Ali (pbuh) wouldn't do any move or any action outside the will of Allah sobhanah wa taala. Ali was told previously by prophet Mohammed (PBUH) what he would face from the (hypocrite) sahabah when prophet Mohammed (PBUH) left them. He was ordered not to kill omer and the others who lead the coup,and attacked the house of Fatima(PBUH). He was not only couragous, but very patient too. He was inclined to obey Allah and his massenger. Nevertheless, he pushed omer to the ground, broke his nose and almost suffocated him (when he harmed Fatima), and he told him ( if it had not been for that behest from Mohammed (PBUH) to me (to not kill you), you would've made sure you don't step into my house". Well when I believe abubakr wanted to dig fatima (as) from her grave eventhough she asked for no one to know where her grave was as she was angry and did not forgive the rights of the ahlulbayt being usurped. Also Sahih Bukhari So she became angry with Abu Bakr and kept away from him, and did not task to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death of the Prophet. When she died, her husband `Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer by himself. When Fatima was alive, the people used to respect `Ali much, but after her death, `Ali noticed a change in the people's attitude towards him. So `Ali sought reconciliation with Abu Bakr and gave him an oath of allegiance.
Imam Ali bravery shown by Shias: When Amr Ibn Wud al Ameri the big pagan Arab challenged the Muslims, the people got petrified with fear. The Prophet (S.A.W.) said on that day that Islam in its entirety is warring against disbelief. So Imam Ali (AS) challenged him but gave him chances but because of the arrogancec of the pagan Amr Ibn Wud Imam Ali (AS) defeated him. The Prophet (SAW) hold up Imam Ali's (AS) hand and said ''the strike of Ali at Khandaq is better than the worship of all men and jinn''. for the sake of argument, not defending someone does not mean you are a coward. my friend once slapped me, i was dissapointed in his actions but held my anger and didn't do nothing. that does not mean this particular event of him slapping me didn't took place. Another scenario : suppose i am really brave in my town. and 50 to 60 people come at my house trying to defame me or fight with me alonse, i've got two options only. fight with them and die because that's what would happen, no matter how brave or how skilled i am , i cannot match 50 to 60 peeple at once. i will surely die and leave my wife and kids fatherless and husbandless alone in this world. I would defintely choose other option of just staying silent and let them do what they want so they have no excuse of getting into heat and executing me. I have a bigger purpose here by staying alive and provide for my wife and kids who rely on me for everything. Yeah its not easy controlling your anger and controlling your action in such a heated situation but that stance would prove to be more beneficial than me standing up and fighting 50 to 60 men and dying. As far as i've heard, same situation was with hazrat ali. A lot of poeple came to his house in a heated situation to get him out of the house and take to the caliph so he can make allegiance to the first caliph. Our prophet appointed his successor after him and he has a greater purpose than fighting all these men that came to his house and dying because no matter how brave he is or how strong he is or how big he might be, He can't fight all these men at the same time. He had a greater purpose of guiding the people and preach the teachings of our prophet and islam so that islam can spread everywhere. That's what i've heard and read and made some logics and conclusions according to my own thinking. Those who say that this type of even is not possible, i think we need to open our eyes up and do a little bit of research about history about what events took place and also the events going around us and we will definitely find loads of examples like this. It is written in the quran itself and i read it myself that people used to kill the prophets who brought the word of god to them ( there's one example) There's also another example which in the book of hadees that 12 of the companions tried to murder our prophet. point to be noted, not just some random non muslims, the COMPANIONS. so here's another example, if they can try to murder our prophet, who's to say that they can't do the same thing with his family after his death.

Volume 4, Book 53, Number 325: Narrated 'Aisha: (mother of the believers) After the death of Allah 's Apostle Fatima the daughter of Allah's Apostle asked Abu Bakr As-Siddiq to give her, her share of inheritance from what Allah's Apostle had left of the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) which Allah had given him. Abu Bakr said to her, "Allah's Apostle said, 'Our property will not be inherited, whatever we (i.e. prophets) leave is Sadaqa (to be used for charity)." Fatima, the daughter of Allah's Apostle got angry and stopped speaking to Abu Bakr, and continued assuming that attitude till she died. Fatima remained alive for six months after the death of Allah's Apostle. She used to ask Abu Bakr for her share from the property of Allah's Apostle which he left at Khaibar, and Fadak, and his property at Medina (devoted for charity). Abu Bakr refused to give her that property and said, "I will not leave anything Allah's Apostle used to do, because I am afraid that if I left something from the Prophet's tradition, then I would go astray." (Later on) Umar gave the Prophet's property (of Sadaqa) at Medina to 'Ali and 'Abbas, but he withheld the properties of Khaibar and Fadak in his custody and said, "These two properties are the Sadaqa which Allah's Apostle used to use for his expenditures and urgent needs. Now their management is to be entrusted to the ruler." (Az-Zuhrl said, "They have been managed in this way till today.")

Narrated `Aisha: Fatima the daughter of the Prophet sent someone to Abu Bakr (when he was a caliph), asking for her inheritance of what Allah's Apostle had left of the property bestowed on him by Allah from the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) in Medina, and Fadak, and what remained of the Khumus of the Khaibar booty. On that, Abu Bakr said, Allah's Apostle said, Our property is not inherited. Whatever we leave, is Sadaqa, but the family of (the Prophet) Muhammad can eat of this property.' By Allah, I will not make any change in the state of the Sadaqa of Allah's Apostle and will leave it as it was during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, and will dispose of it as Allah's Apostle used to do. So Abu Bakr refused to give anything of that to Fatima. So she became angry with Abu Bakr and kept away from him, and did not task to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death of the Prophet. When she died, her husband `Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer by himself. When Fatima was alive, the people used to respect `Ali much, but after her death, `Ali noticed a change in the people's attitude towards him. So `Ali sought reconciliation with Abu Bakr and gave him an oath of allegiance. `Ali had not given the oath of allegiance during those months (i.e. the period between the Prophet's death and Fatima's death). `Ali sent someone to Abu Bakr saying, Come to us, but let nobody come with you, as he disliked that `Umar should come, `Umar said (to Abu Bakr), No, by Allah, you shall not enter upon them alone Abu Bakr said, What do you think they will do to me? By Allah, I will go to them' So Abu Bakr entered upon them, and then `Ali uttered Tashah-hud and said (to Abu Bakr), We know well your superiority and what Allah has given you, and we are not jealous of the good what Allah has bestowed upon you, but you did not consult us in the question of the rule and we thought that we have got a right in it because of our near relationship to Allah's Apostle . Thereupon Abu Bakr's eyes flowed with tears. And when Abu Bakr spoke, he said, By Him in Whose Hand my soul is to keep good relations with the relatives of Allah's Apostle is dearer to me than to keep good relations with my own relatives. But as for the trouble which arose between me and you about his property, I will do my best to spend it according to what is good, and will not leave any rule or regulation which I saw Allah's Apostle following, in disposing of it, but I will follow. On that `Ali said to Abu Bakr, I promise to give you the oath of allegiance in this after noon. So when Abu Bakr had offered the Zuhr prayer, he ascended the pulpit and uttered the Tashah-hud and then mentioned the story of `Ali and his failure to give the oath of allegiance, and excused him, accepting what excuses he had offered; Then `Ali (got up) and praying (to Allah) for forgiveness, he uttered Tashah-hud, praised Abu Bakr's right, and said, that he had not done what he had done because of jealousy of Abu Bakr or as a protest of that Allah had favored him with. `Ali added, But we used to consider that we too had some right in this affair (of rulership) and that he (i.e. Abu Bakr) did not consult us in this matter, and therefore caused us to feel sorry. On that all the Muslims became happy and said, You have done the right thing. for the sake of argument, not defending someone does not mean you are a coward. my friend once slapped me, i was dissapointed in his actions but held my anger and didn't do nothing. that does not mean this particular event of him slapping me didn't took place. Another scenario : suppose i am really brave in my town. and 50 to 60 people come at my house trying to defame me or fight with me alonse, i've got two options only. fight with them and die because that's what would happen, no matter how brave or how skilled i am , i cannot match 50 to 60 peeple at once. i will surely die and leave my wife and kids fatherless and husbandless alone in this world. I would defintely choose other option of just staying silent and let them do what they want so they have no excuse of getting into heat and executing me. I have a bigger purpose here by staying alive and provide for my wife and kids who rely on me for everything. Yeah its not easy controlling your anger and controlling your action in such a heated situation but that stance would prove to be more beneficial than me standing up and fighting 50 to 60 men and dying.
As far as i've heard, same situation was with hazrat ali. A lot of poeple came to his house in a heated situation to get him out of the house and take to the caliph so he can make allegiance to the first caliph. Our prophet appointed his successor after him and he has a greater purpose than fighting all these men that came to his house and dying because no matter how brave he is or how strong he is or how big he might be, He can't fight all these men at the same time. He had a greater purpose of guiding the people and preach the teachings of our prophet and islam so that islam can spread everywhere. That's what i've heard and read and made some logics and conclusions according to my own thinking.
Those who say that this type of even is not possible, i think we need to open our eyes up and do a little bit of research about history about what events took place and also the events going around us and we will definitely find loads of examples like this. It is written in the quran itself and i read it myself that people used to kill the prophets who brought the word of god to them ( there's one example) There's also another example which in the book of hadees that 12 of the companions tried to murder our prophet. point to be noted, not just some random non muslims, the COMPANIONS. so here's another example, if they can try to murder our prophet, who's to say that they can't do the same thing with his family after his death.

Narrated 'Aisha:
(mother of the believers) After the death of Allah 's Apostle Fatima the daughter of Allah's Apostle asked Abu Bakr As-Siddiq to give her, her share of inheritance from what Allah's Apostle had left of the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) which Allah had given him. Abu Bakr said to her, "Allah's Apostle said, 'Our property will not be inherited, whatever we (i.e. prophets) leave is Sadaqa (to be used for charity)." Fatima, the daughter of Allah's Apostle got angry and stopped speaking to Abu Bakr, and continued assuming that attitude till she died. Fatima remained alive for six months after the death of Allah's Apostle.
She used to ask Abu Bakr for her share from the property of Allah's Apostle which he left at Khaibar, and Fadak, and his property at Medina (devoted for charity). Abu Bakr refused to give her that property and said, "I will not leave anything Allah's Apostle used to do, because I am afraid that if I left something from the Prophet's tradition, then I would go astray." (Later on) Umar gave the Prophet's property (of Sadaqa) at Medina to 'Ali and 'Abbas, but he withheld the properties of Khaibar and Fadak in his custody and said, "These two properties are the Sadaqa which Allah's Apostle used to use for his expenditures and urgent needs. Now their management is to be entrusted to the ruler." (Az-Zuhrl said, "They have been managed in this way till today.")

Narrated `Aisha: Fatima the daughter of the Prophet sent someone to Abu Bakr (when he was a caliph), asking for her inheritance of what Allah's Apostle had left of the property bestowed on him by Allah from the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) in Medina, and Fadak, and what remained of the Khumus of the Khaibar booty. On that, Abu Bakr said, Allah's Apostle said, Our property is not inherited. Whatever we leave, is Sadaqa, but the family of (the Prophet) Muhammad can eat of this property.' By Allah, I will not make any change in the state of the Sadaqa of Allah's Apostle and will leave it as it was during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, and will dispose of it as Allah's Apostle used to do. So Abu Bakr refused to give anything of that to Fatima. So she became angry with Abu Bakr and kept away from him, and did not task to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death of the Prophet. When she died, her husband `Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer by himself. When Fatima was alive, the people used to respect `Ali much, but after her death, `Ali noticed a change in the people's attitude towards him. So `Ali sought reconciliation with Abu Bakr and gave him an oath of allegiance. `Ali had not given the oath of allegiance during those months (i.e. the period between the Prophet's death and Fatima's death). `Ali sent someone to Abu Bakr saying, Come to us, but let nobody come with you, as he disliked that `Umar should come, `Umar said (to Abu Bakr), No, by Allah, you shall not enter upon them alone Abu Bakr said, What do you think they will do to me? By Allah, I will go to them' So Abu Bakr entered upon them, and then `Ali uttered Tashah-hud and said (to Abu Bakr), We know well your superiority and what Allah has given you, and we are not jealous of the good what Allah has bestowed upon you, but you did not consult us in the question of the rule and we thought that we have got a right in it because of our near relationship to Allah's Apostle . Thereupon Abu Bakr's eyes flowed with tears. And when Abu Bakr spoke, he said, By Him in Whose Hand my soul is to keep good relations with the relatives of Allah's Apostle is dearer to me than to keep good relations with my own relatives. But as for the trouble which arose between me and you about his property, I will do my best to spend it according to what is good, and will not leave any rule or regulation which I saw Allah's Apostle following, in disposing of it, but I will follow. On that `Ali said to Abu Bakr, I promise to give you the oath of allegiance in this after noon. So when Abu Bakr had offered the Zuhr prayer, he ascended the pulpit and uttered the Tashah-hud and then mentioned the story of `Ali and his failure to give the oath of allegiance, and excused him, accepting what excuses he had offered; Then `Ali (got up) and praying (to Allah) for forgiveness, he uttered Tashah-hud, praised Abu Bakr's right, and said, that he had not done what he had done because of jealousy of Abu Bakr or as a protest of that Allah had favored him with. `Ali added, But we used to consider that we too had some right in this affair (of rulership) and that he (i.e. Abu Bakr) did not consult us in this matter, and therefore caused us to feel sorry. On that all the Muslims became happy and said, You have done the right thing. The Muslims then became friendly with `Ali as he returned to what the people had done (i.e. giving the oath of allegiance to Abu Bakr).
