This is a minor issue in Islam. Most companions have hadeeths from our prophet giving them different kind of praise. We will very very likely not get asked who is better (Ali or Omar) in the day of judgment. This issue has no effect on our lives now or the next life.

Quran states for us to not have any distinction between prophets.

They are talking about the companions. And it helps to have some sort of hierarchy amongst them because they were all different and some were more righteous than others.
This is problem with doing on the spot tafsir of the quran without knowledge.
Having no distinction between prophets meanings not choosing which ones to believe in, basically believe in them all (i can't say i believe in muhammad but not jesus and vice versa). But in status some are superior than others lile Muhammad who is the best of the prophets(who are in turn the best of humankind)

Here you can see that some prophets are higher in status than others, the Quran does state to not distinguish between the prophets, which means that we should believe in all of them and respect all ot them. It was said in refutation to the jews and christians because they don't believe in all the Prophets.

Ali R.A was BOTH a Sahaba and of Ahl El Bayt, anf that is a double honor. The verse ( Surely, your only masters are Allah, His messenger, and Those who establish prayers and give Zakat during Rokoo') (5:55) was revealed when Ali (AS) gave his ring to a poor person during Rokoo'. This fact is mentioned in many Sunni books like: 1. Al-Majma' Al-Awsat by al-Tabaraani , Hadeeth number 6414.
“O Messenger! Deliver what bas been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the people; surely Allah will not guide the unbelieving people.” [Surah al-Ma`idah 5:67]

Leader, Master Friend, Beloved, Guide, etc. Every quality of Maula Prophet Muhammad PBUM have had all of them will be applied on Ali ibn Abi Talib RAAS. If you take a least meaning it would be beloved or friend, so it means you have to love Ali ibn Abi Talib as much as you love Prophet Muhammad PBUM., which may not be possible so just after Prophet Muhammad PBUM. It also solves the confusion that who is the best after Prophet Muhammad PBUM. Obviously, the one you must love as much as you love Prophet PBUH.

Mu'awiya (ra) died in 60 AH (in another narration in 50 AH). Mu'awiya (ra) was criticized for turning Islam's elective caliphate system into a sultanate. However, it should not be forgotten that Hazrat Mu'awiya (ra) was also a Companion and that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) exonerated all of his Companions without any discrimination and cursed anyone who spoke ill of any of them. The era of Mu'awiya (ra) was a time when Islamic conquests continued. In short, no Companion, including Mu'awiya (ra), can be accused or suspected of anything because of what he did. This is not permissible both with the hadiths of the Prophet (pbuh) and with the unanimity of Ahl al-Sunnah scholars, and those who do so are cursed.
Mu'awiya rendered invaluable services in the spread of Islam. Sicistan, Sudan, Afghanistan, Bukhara, northern part of India, Tunisia were taken in his time. Cyprus was liberated from Byzantium. Jerusalem was taken back. During his reign, Istanbul was besieged, but the siege was lifted on the condition of paying a large tax every year.

However you will agree that most Sunnis will not agree with you. For them the Caliphs were chosen based on their virtue and Ali AS was 4th best. I find this quite ridiculous to be honest as Ali AS impact in battles and becoming a powerhouse of Islamic knowledge after the Prophet is unrivalled.

Ali is the best companion. The first muslim man, the flag bearer of khaybar the one who didn't run away from battle, the one who was born in kaaba, the one whose hand was raised in ghadeer e khum, part of ahlul bayt, bearer of the prophet's sword, husband of the prophet's daughter. No one comes close, only hypocrites are against ali(hadeeth). Only hate of Ali can lead you to believe otherwise.

Ali(Ra) is the best Sahaba among all Sahabas. In Badr when Quraish asked for duet, Ansaari sahabas answered the call. But the prophet (sm) sent his brother and uncle. In Uhud, Ali (Ra) answered the call, in Khandak hazrat Ali answered and defeated the most dangerous among Quaraish. In Khybar prophet (sm) gave the flag in Ali's hand while hazrat Umar(Ra) wanted to bear it. In gadhir e khum prophet (sm) raised Ali's hand and declared him "Maola". Abu bakr (r.a) was the companions that was there for Muhammad (s.a.w) in the cave of hera and migration of medina and after his (s.a.w) death abu bakr was chosen as the first caliph of islam
He was chosen by whom, a handful of companions at the expense of Allah's decision. Election are never a part of Islam and do not call Saqeefah to be Ijma

Categorizing the status of the Sahabas does not add anything to my faith as a Muslim. What matter to me is: There is no worthy worship except Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Those who abandoned the worship of Allah for the worship of men and fighting over their status sickness in their hearts.
Hazrat Ali is Ahl ul bayat. He is in different category than all other sahaba.
Sahaba took oath under a tree that they won't run and will give their lives for Allah on the hand of Prophet Muhammad saww but they ran again in battle of Khyber and broke their oath with Allah... Only an illegitimate child can compare those to Ali Bin Abi Talib (brother of Prophet saww loved and declared a rightful ruler after Prophet Muhammad saww by Allah swt)

Three things I would like to mention to “ahul sunnah” Hadith Al thaqyalan and ghdeer khum. Along with Hadith Al kisa which I can’t find Ayesha the camel rider in or Abu bakar Al qathab or Or Omar on my way to the mountain.
