- From one man’s promise to his father to a group of medical volunteers, Haiti: Day by Day captures the essence of human kindness. In 2014, Connecticut filmmaker Scott Sniffen started following a team of doctors, nurses and other medical volunteers to rural Haiti as they try to bring basic healthcare to areas where there are none. One leader of the group is Guinxe Gabriel, a Haitian American who never forgot the words of his father when he left Haiti at a young age, “Remember the others.”
Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, has a long history of unrest, corruption and bloodshed, which continues today. The filmmakers are witness to life in the mountainous regions of the small Caribbean nation, where some areas compare to life during the 17th century. Despite impoverished living conditions and little to no support from their government, the smiling, friendly islanders meet the volunteers with open arms and are more than accepting to wait in the heat to be seen by a doctor, perhaps for the first time in their lives.
The film also reports on other sustainable efforts in Haiti, programs which incorporate Haitian doctors and volunteers into long-term efforts. And the film follows the group back to Guinxe’s childhood home in the mountains where his father ignited the dream so many years ago.
In the end, filmmaker Sniffen hopes to shine a light on a different Haiti than the one often seen in the media; a Haiti with smart, vigilant, capable and most of all friendly people, all with hopes and dreams like us all.
This is the main reason for coming to earth is to help a fellow human being ....in return for inner peace 🕊️

I'm Haitian I came to US after the 2010 earthquake and I live in connecticut since then .On behalf my Haitian brothers and sisters and myself are very greatful for everything you guys done and continue to do for Haiti. I really like to help , contribute or even volunteer and be a part of this.
Go back to Haiti they need people with your honesty and common sense.
Go back and rebuild your country? White people stayed and helped rebuild Europe after the World Wars but that doesn't seem to apply to men of color, who leave everyone behind including their own children just to save themselves. Your offer to help after you turned your back is meaningless.

This video made me cry. It reminds me my old country and Haiti neighbor, Cuba. The only difference is Haitians are free to plant and harvest. In Cuba it is forbidden by people in power, the Cuban dictatorship .

My question is , with so many good , kind, intelligent people in the diaspora who care for Haiti and love their people why hasn't any diaspora Haitians gotten together and ask other countries for help and on of them runs for president and do the right thing for their people and their country. I know is not easy and is easy to say this but their has to be a way to clean up Haiti and start from scratch. For God sake there are only 10 millions Haitians in Haiti, I am sure the money exist to rebuild the country from scratch and the people just need a good leader who will guide them with love and good intentions for a better future. When I seen that woman with cancer and all you could give her was Tylenol for pain, I cried. I lost my own husband to cancer and I know the excruciating pain that comes along with it towards the end. The last couple days of my husband life, he had “comfort meds” that kept him sedated, and here’s this poor lady who’s already lived a hard life and she won’t even be able to leave this world peacefully😢.
WE CANT CHANGE THE WORLD, BUT IF WE OPEN OUR EYES AND SEE THE NEEDS OF OTHERS, IT WILL CHANGE US AND WE WILL SEEK TO HELP CHANGE THE LIVES OF THE LESS FORTUNATE. IN THE WORLD. LOVE YOU HAITI, YOU PEOPLE HELP RAISED MY CHILDREN AND THEY ARE THE BETTER FOR IT.
That's the best documentary I've ever seen about Haiti. I couldn't stop crying when I saw it for the first time. You speak in a realistic way of this little impoverished country.

Thank you for making this documentary. It breaks my heart that Haiti is in such a bad state. My mother left Haiti with me and my 5 siblings when I was 4 years old and I never returned. My mother would visit every year to donate to the pregnant women waiting by the hospitals for over 15 years but it has gotten too bad for her to travel due to gangs and kidnapping so unfortunately she has not gone back for years now. I donate to two children monthly. It breaks my heart so bad, but God will prevail. Amen. Again, thanks for shedding a light. 🙏🏽

Great documentary, i went to Haiti with a group of healthcare professionals after the 2010 earthquake. It wasn't easy. We worked 16 hrs daily for 10 days straight at the state university hospital in Port-au-Prince. I feel you guys pain and frustration at the same time. We had the same exact experience. I would like to bring another team to help out again but safety is a great concern of mine. May God bless you all. Thank you on behalf of my people.🙏🏾💗

The way I am crying. Too many emotions. As the world is giving up hope on Haiti, thank you for finding her beauty. Haiti is a magical place… once you step foot on her soul, you will forever be bound to her. She is a country far too rich to be so impoverished… because unless we are speaking economically, there is not one single thing about Haiti that is poor. Thank you for the inspiration, and thank you for all that you do. This serves as a grave reminder that we the diaspora do not do enough 🙏🏽

This documentary made me so sad and I cried. Thank you to those good sumaritans, the Doctors , nurses and caregivers volunteering to save lives. I hope the whole world will watch it, it certainly taught me a great lesson in life living on the other side of the world in Papua New Guinea (South Pacific), same skin colour and feathers.. I send my love and hugs to all the children.

Thanks so much for the medical team for leaving their comfortable life behind for a few days and go and help those who truly needs help. That’s remarkable. Haiti should not be in this current situation in this day and age. The long term goal should be to help the people help themselves. They are very capable if afforded the means to do so. Shame on the government of Haiti, corrupt parties and the friend-enemies of Haiti for tolerating and allowing this living situations to continue. It doesn’t have to be that way. Haiti can be self-sufficient. Where’s our humanity and moral compass?
Haiti is a broken country, if we can have more people like those volunteers we can have a better Haiti. Much respect goes out to those volunteers who took their time just to help those who are in such dire need, Blessed love!

I teared up all through the video and seeing these great people volunteering for the people of Haiti made me happier than ever. I'm from Cameroon and we share the same struggles. Guinex's story was just another tear-dropping at the end of the video, he should be proud of his dad, and may his gentle soul rest in peace.

This is very well done, and I appreciate that the focus is on the Haitian people who would do for themselves as much as they could with the help of their neighbors and friends for that hand up. So much has been taken from Haiti, but the people still have that spirit to do for themselves and build for themselves. Our Haitian friends do not need to be pitied or to be rescued. They need dignity and agency and meaning, and what better way than to walk alongside for a bit until they can do it entirely on their own.

You didn't show it like we were hopeless and poor people who's always seeking and asking for money or food but you portrait us as people you portrait us as a country and if there something I want people to learn about this video is that Haiti is a warrior country a country of survivors a country of proud people

Me and my twin brother and were heavily dehydrated when we were born in Haiti. My brother didnt make it. I came to the US in 1990 joined the army, served 10 years obtained my MBA now I live with my wife and kids comfortably but its hard to help with organizations that take advantage of my people. Its nice to see people doing the work in my stead.
Hello guys dont forget that Venezuela is the best kept secret of the Caribbean region. In fact about 2,500-3,000 years ago, farmers and potters related to the Arawak-speakers of northeast of actual Venezuela established a pathway into the Caribbean. Using the delta fingers of Orinoco River Basin like highways, they travelled from the interior to coastal Venezuela and pushed north into the Antilles islands of the Caribbean Sea, settling Puerto Rico and eventually moving westward. Their arrival ushered in the region’s Ceramic Age, marked by agriculture and the widespread production and use of pottery.
Over time, nearly all genetic traces of Archaic Age people vanished, except for a holdout community in western Cuba that persisted as late as European arrival. Intermarriage between the two groups was rare, with only three individuals in the study showing mixed ancestry.
Many present-day Cubans, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are the descendants of ancient people from Venezuela , as well as European immigrants and enslaved Africans. But researchers noted only marginal evidence of Archaic Age ancestry in modern individuals.
And even today, with economic crisis happening in Venezuela, the Antilles is seeing an influx of alot of South Americans (mainly Venezuelans) on the islands. In a couple years, if this trend continues, the whole demographic landscape of the islands can change again.

Pride is NOT the reason that Haitians stoically bear their suffering. The truth of Haitians strength is that they don't know anything other than daily suffering for survival; this life of daily struggle from before birth and thru childhood develops a resilient character that knows to live is to fight for life every single day. To think for a moment that this strength comes from any other source than survival mentality is racism.
