Serbia (Yugoslavia then) was bombed by NATO, killing 2000 people and getting billions of CIVILIAN infrastructure destroyed (far away from Kosovo conflict). That is the main reason people are against NATO there.

It is hard to believe that Putin was surprised that Finland and then Sweden joined NATO. Since the end of the Cold War both countries have been partners to NATO, held exercises with NATO and formed a close military collaboration with each other. I think that Russia wanted to make the division between East and West clear for internal political reasons. Putin was afraid to loose his grip over Russia and wanted to unite the people against the West behind the Kremlin regime. For the same reason he started the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, to prevent Ukraine from joining EU and becoming more democratic and with a better living standard for its people. It could threaten his autocratic regime if the Russian people started to demand more democracy and closer ties to EU. The full-scale invasion of Ukraine was important for the decision of Finland and Sweden to join NATO, but mostly as a display of what the Kremlin regime actually was capable of. This process started already in 2021 when Russia decided to threaten its neighbours, and then broke the informal connections to the Finnish leadership.

Not a very good reason for pride, because Russophobia is not only hatred towards the Russian government, but often also towards the Russian people. This is especially strange to hear from a Swede, because thanks to the Swedish policy of neutrality, at least from the 1950s to 2014, relations between the USSR (Russia) and Sweden were the most successful in their entire history, especially in economic terms, for both sides. Yes, there were incidents with submarines swimming into territorial waters, but there are not even theoretical threats for Sweden.

A bloody terror state for sure, but not an ordinary kind of dictators-ship where all power belongs to one man. Ukraine, Russia and other states were part of this ideological monster, but very different from Putin's revival of the Russian Empire where everybody is slave under the dictator. And, NATO/US never promised not to expand eastwards, that specific discussion with Gorbatjov & James Baker was regarding not having Warsaw pact and Nato membership at the same time in the same country, which is something completely different.
