- The McMurtry Spéirling Pure shows what it is capable of at the Hockenheimring, and what makes it the fastest car you can buy in the world! After breaking records at the Goodwood hillclimb, we're with the team at the Dörr Group Day in Germany to set some lap times... it's mind-blowing!
McMurtry have engineered a track hypercar that you can buy as a customer, which takes a totally different approach to anything that has come before. As an EV fancar, not only do you have 1,000hp with variable settings, but an extraordinary 2,000kg of downforce that's available from a standstill - unlike traditional downforce which is strongest at the fastest speeds. The result is something that could be set to GT3 car pace, LMP2 pace, up to Le Mans Hypercar pace, or even dialling all the way to corner even faster than an F1 car.
After an introduction to the car with Thomas Yates, the man very much behind it, we're also guided through the process by former-F1 driver Max Chilton who is responsible for piloting this rocket ship. There's a lot to take-in about the car that effectively any private owner can buy, take to their local hillclimb or circuit, and set by far the best laptime ever - all without needing anything like F1 level driving experience.
With cornering in excess of 3G, and power to weight of almost 1:1 combined with nearly double its weight in downforce, there's no denying the McMutry Spéirling Pure is in a league of its own. And when Max is unleashed with Hockenheim's official timing gear hooked up, a time of 1:24.43 hits the point home very quickly. The 1:24.43 is the Closed Wheel Record at Hockenheim, beating the 2020 DTM Pole time of 1:28.337 and being 14.1 seconds faster than the Mercedes AMG-One Track Focused Hypercar under test.

You know a car is ridiculously fast when you need iron sights sticking out of the hood to aim at the apexes.
When gt3 pace is the *lowest* setting, you know it’s fast
So basically the car is as fast as a driver is fearless at this point. Imagine an entire field of these daring each other into corners and drafting off of each other up the straights
That's exactly what i thought the moment i first saw it. The limit of the car has now, once again, become the limit of the driver themselves - because extracting full performance requires SO much bravery and sheer physical will.

@@cephasmakuzva Good question. Answer is: we're midway though a test programme with this car. Currently testing the 75% modes at different venues. You will get to see full performance later in the year :)
@@cephasmakuzva probably similar reasons to why Lotus had a track day with the Evija limited to "only" 1400 horsepower or so. Shaking out the thermal and durability issues with running the batteries, motors, and power management when a megawatt is coursing through them.
The Rimac Nevera seems capable of running at its max 1,900 (!!) horsepower, but it's a big heavy, arguably over-engineered car.

@@zukacs, it would definitely win around Monaco, but that's more size, power, and wheelbase than the downforce. It would lose around a track like COTA, SPA, or Road America however.

Yeah, 2020 Spec DTM cars are quick, but they aren't Formula 1 quick. Looking at lap times, a '20 DTM sits somewhere around F3 speeds. So, a few seconds quicker per lap would put Max's run around F2 speeds.
lol. It wouldn’t lose to any F1 car on any track on earth. F1 cars on COTA would get smashed by at least a second. Even with DRS on straights, this thing would make up WAY more time in corners. Probably wouldn’t even be a fair race.
Those who mentioned that it is 13 seconds slower than the all time record, a pole lap set by Sebastian Vettel in a Ferrari F1 car in 2018, don't forget- this is at 75% performance... : O
I don't know how a driver does it- I'm pretty good at driving a powerful car at the limit of the tire's mechanical grip, but this- it's just an act of faith with that much downforce to nail it and just slingshot around corners like that!! Insane...

Battery will overheat. It can not run at full tilt for more than a few miles.
I’m not sure there’s a human that could drive it flat out on The Ring. Need a fighter jet pilot who is trained and used to the G-forces. But even then, after 6 trillion corners for 13 miles that may be too much for anyone alive lol.

Completely incorrect assessment. You need a race car driver who has the upper body muscles as well as the neck muscles. A car does not and will never exert G forces on the body like a plane will. A formula one driver will be perfectly capable of driving this car. The two most important things will be the muscles for the neck and the muscles in the left leg.

This is the first electric car that has hit the "disruptive technology" mark. Fan cars have been done many times before with good results but it's a first on an electric car, and that is where that engineering shines. To most of us, battery powered cars signify a dark agenda used to take away what we love. This car avoids that bit entirely, it was made for pure speed, and a battery is the best tool for the job here. Any car guy can get behind this, regardless of the muscle car they have in their garage. When you peer below the surface it isn't leading us towards 15 minute cities, it's just taking a person around a track as fast as humanly possible. It's honest, it's purpose built like an F40. It's an engineering marvel driven by passion and I am so proud of the men who built it.

This car moves like all the t.v. cars of the 80s when they speed up the film. And the batmobile from the original t.v. show when they drive out the bat cave. Lmfao love this car
