@@The-B-Side Hey not sure if something is up with this, but I was 100% unable to get my eggs to hatch up top. They would hatch on the bottom fine and with a build more similar to your update one and a hearth outside I wasn't able to get them to hatch. I ended up spawning in chickens after a few hours of trying different things and adding more space and such, and the chickens were constantly afraid, which I'm wondering if that preventing them hatching. I killed them and then spawned in hens and they were perfectly content. So in the end it works amazing and now I've got eggs for days
I love these boss places, built base because of endless fire and good geometry for build top flours.

Pretty good design. 9:10 I solved the chicks jumping out by building 2 meters more of walls vertically until they are hens. Maybe they can still escape but after doing that I never had any more annoying escapes.
This is the best machine I have seen for this so far, and it seems to work very well, I'm going to have to see about making one of these

@@The-B-Side Yeah, I'm pretty sure that update will break it :( So much great stuff in that update, then this one thing is bad news. I'm 24/7 afking at mine atm, just to make sure I have boxes filled w/eggs, and meat, so if it does break it, I don't have to worry about chickens for a long, long time.

Used it, Love it TY, I happen to have a greydwarf farm right next to elder as well, so the dandelions fuel the chickens :)
Wish I saw that a bit sooner since, I already finished building your boar and wolf breeders and I wished to have them all in a centralized location argh....Still no matter. TIme to get to work!
If you put a beam or wall behind the chickens on the breeder you can just throw food into the wall and it will fall into each pen. No need to stand in a special place and aim.
With carrots and turnips, I have an area of 4x4 for seeds, and then 12x4 beside it for the root. That way 12 seeds are growing for the next lot of roots, and I get 8 roots that are not going to be used as seeds each harvest. Fiddling with that to generate more seeds shouldn't be hard, and since I have not reached Mistlands yet, I should be able to stock up. But thanks for the idea of how to use a boss arena after the boss is defeated!

7:16 you say that chickens are at risk for the cold wind from the mountains. I thought I would just mention that the Cold Wind Blows From The Mountains is disabled by killing Yagluth; inversely, chickens are enabled by killing Yagluth. Bats still apply though.
Some players take eggs from a previous play through over to a new map, which means they can have Bats on their farms.

Nice build! the #1 issue in this game is there is no traditional aiming mechanic "well that and the ridiculous dodge mechanic" you have to take time to turn your character little by little to aim.. personally after the chicks become chickens i use a 1x2 wall placed 1/4 inward from outside wall. toss the food at the wall and wala.
Instead of 1x1 walls I've found that using the shutters works a lot better because you can place them before moving the chickens into position and then just shut the "door." It also has the added benefit of being able to move them into position a little bit easier as well.
Yeah, I used the shutters as well, but sometimes the corner causes too large collision.
So i just went for a straight forward solution that would cause less people commenting telling me it does not work... 😂

I love the build, but have a question with the auto stacking of food. Do you find that barley will just auto stack? I end up having to use 4 different types of seeds/barley to prevent them from stacking all the time
I have not come across that issue myself...
Hello! I have a problem, the stone floor 2x2 placed at the top of the structure wont hold and it keeps breaking even with the iron beams, how does he get it to stay without breaking?
So the max limit is 14 hens per 12 meters, if you have about 13 hens they will constantly breed until there's 14 right? But if they're setup like this the limit will not be reached and they will continuosly breed. Therefore, for further efficiency you can add about 5 more hens to make it more efficient or just 4 if you're concerned about the design of it. Sorry for the rambling, your design got me thinking lol cheers!
I could add 2 more hens on this design.
Adding more than 2 would stop them from breeding.
So I would have to expand the breeder size to have more hens.
Instead of trying to line up the throw distance, wouldn't it be easier to just put a temporary wall on top of the half wall in front of the chickens and throw the food against it?
In all honesty, I have been throwing the food wrongly on purpose... As a lot of people seemed to comment on my previous breeders that their animals did not eat..
I hope with the example I showed, they understand they should throw it right in front of the animal, and try again if it does not work. 😂
The piece of wood to throw against can work, but depending on what you throw, it bounces differently.
Could you do some testing with the new public test release. If I read correctly they changed the egg spawn closer to the chicken now. This might be broken already :/

But as far as I can see... Eggs probably fall too close now to the chicken.
SO once the public releases, I need to review this.
In the end, the base should not be a waste of time, the only thing changing will be the center breeder.
what if I want to fight the elder ? Is there more than 1 location per world ?
There are several Elders-spawns.
I build this one on a separate one that we do not use to fight on. 😊
It's good to know, I thought there was only 1 location per boss as the vegvisirs don't show more after finding the first
@@-Nayomie- The vegivisirs are location-based so each will show you the nearest spawn. You generally aren't going through burial chambers on different sides of the world when you actually need cores so it's pretty common not to find multiple.

Does the new update making eggs spawn closer to under the chicken effect this? Kinda figured that was the point of the update.
The update does indeed break it.. But I am already working on some solutions, which should require minimal changes to the breeder. 👌
What Bats...I have never seen a bat in the game...been playing since it went live
“You stirred the cauldron” you’ve played since it went live but haven’t been to frost caves nor have you experienced that event?
I saw the bats in the caves , but not in the open...
As Ghost mentioned, "You stirred the Cauldron" is one of the possible raid events after you kill Bonemass and have killed bats in the Frost Caves.
That Raid stops occurring once you killed Moder.
The bat raid can definitely happen after you've killed Moder. The wiki doesn't currently list a disable condition.
Doesn´t work for me. Build it, hens are happy and eating but don´t produce eggs :(

thumbs up on the creativity but just put them in a troll cave and block the fire so they don't burn with sign boards cuz this has too many complications
In a troll cave? You can't build in a troll Cave.. or you are using mods?
@@The-B-Side no mods, try it out, put down a campfire and surround it with signs so your chickens don't burn throw the eggs close by and there's your protected chicken farm

The only reason I am building it around the Elder is because I don't need to Fuel the fire.

Next update. Hens need to touch soil. Devs can't have breeders and like to mess with ppls ability to make funny builds.
The old breeders still work though... I know a lot of rumors have been spread wolfs and boars needed soil, but I never build a breeder on soil, never had an issue.
However, the upcoming change to hens laying eggs closer to their body, might mess with this design for sure.
Guess we will see, and have to adjust if so.. lol
