- Why are Guild Wars 2 fans so excited for Cantha in End of Dragons? To answer that question, I introduce you to Cantha and take you on a tour.

It would be a dream come true if Anet referenced or brought back Malyck when we meet the Wardens. But because the new Necro elite spec is called the Harbinger, and the Nightmare Court originally referred to Malyck as the Harbinger, I'm not sure Anet will reference Malyck in this expansion unless he is now a Necro using blight.
Ahh, that's a really interesting point! I really hope they still go for it- it would be such a perfect way to finally pay off on Malyck's mystery
As a sylvari main that met Malyck back in 2012, I like to cope by assuming he became some random mordrem guard that I killed in Verdant Brink, around the blighting tree Corpse Grove.
can't wait for my sylvari treelike character to fire noxious poop 💩 darts at people with a pistol I mean this elite spec holy balls expected to reign all over reaper! harbinger shroud: envelope yourself in your own fucking funk of diarrhea and fire condition based projectiles of poop 💩 at ppl.

Everything I've seen so far about Cantha in GW2 feels right and rekindled that sense of excitement and exploration I've felt in factions as well 15 years ago. I want to see the old places but changed, still recognizable but through a filter of development and advanced tech. I am sure I'm going to like End of Dragons.

I hope we really get some Jadepunk , because i thought generally how you can combine an MMO with more "modern" aesthetic.
And i really look for forward to some gothic stuff.(maybe hit from software for some bossdesign *cought*)

Just starting to play through Cantha -- I can already say that I am so so excited to see the environment in a more modern engine such as GW2. I am particulalrly excited to see what verticality means for EOD, and my brain directly goes to Kaineng and Echovald.
huh? Arent Gw2 and Gw1 built in the same almost 20 year old in-house engine and thats why ANET is so limited when it comes to upgrades?

I remember the preorder for factions came with a beta disc that allowed you to play the new classes in the Maatu Keep area. As a kid this was such an exciting moment I never forgot it. Something about Cantha was just so immersive.
I only started playing a little bit after Factions- but I have similar memories to the Paragon and Dervish beta!
I realy enjoyed the video! It is so cool to see the lore behind this place.
Honestly, the reason I enjoyed the heart of thorns expansion so much, was because not only was it a good expansion, but, it also affected My Sylvari characters' playthrough... which got my attention heavily. I would REALLY like to see more of that BUT for the other different playable races, and maybe even the classes themselves.
You don't know how much I love the thought of a neon district cyber punk Kaineng City. That'll be freaking awesome. Specially with Guild Wars 2's lighting and reflections.

YES I absolutely needed this. I have been extremely hyped about the new expansion but I have only been in the Guild wars franchise since just after Path of Fire. The amount of knowledge you have about the lore is super impressive too, thanks Lara

Factions was my favorite GW1 expansion so when I saw that we're finally getting a Cantha expansion I was so pumped! I can't wait to see how much was changed in Cantha.

I know GW2 is not about the Afflicted. But I would love to see them come back in a very minor *wink wink* type of situation. Like perhaps in form of a small mob somewhere in the sewers, a fractals that happens to have a couple or perhaps just some NPC’s that talk about it. #Nostalgia 😂🙌🏼✨

As a revenant I wonder if being attuned to Shiro will trigger him talking about his home land when you arrive in Cantha.

They said during today's stream that there will be some additional VO for Shiro, probably complaining about the new double legend.

The nostalgia also has a lot to do with the Winds of Change gw1 beyond, a content very similar to the living story that came out has preperation to gw2, that story was very good and left some interesting questions. That is also the reason most gw1 players were always looking forward to be able to play Tengu 'cause that story had a lot to do with them.
I never actually played Winds of Change, but hoping to play it soon!

I played all GW1 standalone expansions at launch so I understand very well what you mean by being "nostalgic". I love seeing anything from GW1 on GW2.

I was one of the beta testers in Guild Wars 2 and a Cantha expansion has always been my dream. I have a deep love for Chinese myth and dramas, so the setting really engaged me in GW1 - not to mention, the walled city in that game (based on Kowloon WC) was like nothing I'd seen in another MMO.
Dang, Cantha looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see the Jade sea and Echovald ( and Kaineng . . and the turtles. Ok pretty much everything!)

Indeed! I'm quite confident we'll see Juggernauts in one form or another, but I haven't seen anybody talking about Island Guardians and I'm bit worried people have forgotten them. Well, I'm not really worried, but I was just so happy to see Jacarandas, my favorite plants, in Elona when PoF was released.
I know very little gw2 lore, and i have not played it in quite a while, but this video made me reinstall it cause I'm VERY excited now

My favorite continent in guild wars 1. Prophecies' areas were great but kinda stale.
In Cantha the areas felt like an actual world. There were people in the streets of Kaineng City gathering and listening to those prophets, merchants where you could buy and sell stuff and shrines where you could /kneel to summon an avatar of the shrine's god to buy some cool buffs.
And the creatures in the Jade sea were fighting each other. That was pretty cool. Always liked when I got a morale boost out of nowhere because a boss was killed lol.
Alliance vs Alliance vs Alliance was also special and introduced in fractions.
I loved Alliance Battles even though I was really bad at them

I don't think that they will link wardens to the sylvari or morderm, since Heart of Thorns was mainly about that. But who knows, maybe they will do it in a way that will not overshadow other aspects of the story
I loved Cantha in gws 1.. in gws 2.. I wish they would have stuck with more of the gws 1 look. like a wealthy and a slums in their own areas, it made it feel more real.

ok, you sold me Cantha, but now I want to know who is the threat on that region, it seems like could be the lady on the trailer who maybe will become mad scientist (as Scarlet ) with her dragon jade magic thing.
I would like also some new awesome region. I compare sometimes with Genshin Impact's Inazuma and that place has some of the greatest region concepts, like a whole mountain broken in half, an island under sea level, mountain with continuous thunder tempest, etc. GW2 always delivers good pretty maps.
Im not a fan of the Chinese setting but I love the petrified forest and that gothic place.

My understanding is that when the game came out A net was really focused on the Chinese market. Cantha was a sore point and threatened the Chinese release due to cultural issues (Cantha being a mixture of several Asian cultures aesthetically.) The area of Divinities Reach that now holds festivals was going to be the Canthan quarter, but they scrapped it and quickly put a big pit there with some lore about a collapse. I assumed that we would never see Cantha again due to politics, but I guess A net is less concerned about the Chinese market now or has figured out a work around to make it work in China.
One thing you missed-we've seen the Jade Sea in Guild Wars 2 already, as it appears as the setting of the Solid Ocean fractal. However, unlike the Sunqua Peak fractal, we don't know when in the timeline the equivalent of the events shown in the fractal occur, if they do at all.
I would love to see the Jade Maw return as a world boss!

When EOD came out and I started playing Cantha maps, I was a bit disappointed, particularly with New Keinig. Since then I've warmed to it a bit, mostly with Seitung and Echovalds. Still not loving it, but love that after 8 years of playing GW2 there's new expansions and always plenty to enjoy

Well it kinda reminds me Mist of Pandaria in World of warcraft. Jade Sea (Jade forrest), Turtles, Asian culture, food and fishing oriented mechanics. I'm still looking forward to play it tho, don't get me wrong. Its just that I don't see it as something not previously seen in fantasy set ups.
Man, I always pronounced every place German hearing someone pronounces it in English feels really odd. Like Echovald forest... Wald means Forrest in german. So reading Echovald Forrest is a bit odd. The Echovald is heavily influenced by Russian and German medieval periods like names and the building are in Gothic styles. It always had a gloomy atmosphere I liked it a lot.
I'm concerned the EoD story is gearing up to be too preachy, I'm just watching the pieces fall into place after they wasted Joko...

so the rest of tyria is some Norwegian viking norseman mythological asuran backtothefuture ratasum advanced technology with a what the fuck mixture of lore being attacked by fierce dragons that breath the flames of Balthazar, meanwhile originating from a Japanese themed setting called cantha where evidently (the dragons themselves) live harmoniously n are not pissed off at Tyria.... there n everyone wants to visit ......the very fucking home of the dragons the tyrians sought to destroy all along?...now let's go there...
