Looking to get started in Guild Wars 2?
czcams.com/video/lcX0IdMWhOQ/video.html
I'm a newer player and just yesterday i randomly came across a world boss and fought it along with a bunch of endgame characters. Definitely a highlight of the game so far.
It's crazy how one of those seemingly random instances can have such an impact on your perception of a game!
Update: exploring lion's arch, and there were so many people dancing and flashing different colors in the town center that it crashed my game. 10/10
@Judgement_Kazzy excellent. You probably ran into the roaming gang of char's who dance in color coordinated outfits
I just have to say THANK YOU right here.
Just yesterday I was looking at all the things you can do in this game and was thinking about a lot of things I thought I'd never achieve and instantly felt overwhelmed and lost passion for the game.
Today I started my computer, feeling a bit bummed, now I watched your video and feel great about playing again.
Thanks again
I'm glad you found the heart of this video! The best thing about Guild wars 2 is its self pacing! Taking your time, moving through it at your own pace and taking it all in. Yes there is a lot that you can do, but you certainly don't have to do it all!
I often see the "go to the pvp lobby and try classes out" argument, though it is a valid argument it often gets overlook by veterans is that new players don't know what they need to be looking for, sure you get all unlocked, but if you don't know how a class is supposed to work/flow you are pretty much just reading a lot of texts on skill descriptions most newbies don't understand due to lack of knowledgement and looking at the animations.
Yeah, having recently gotten back into the game after a long time, you have to be willing to lose a lot of games for quite a while before you feel like you've comfortably tried out a class...and then there's the fact that every build and weapon set offer vastly different experiences within that class, and not all of those are viable for the same content...which can unfortunately feel a bit discouraging. I'd actually disagree with the video here, though like you I think it poses a valid argument. Just, in my opinion the "main" thing testing out a class in PVP does is give you a feeling for class with relation to PVP specifically, and it doesn't have that much bearing on how it could feel in open world.
I would even go as far as to say that it could feel overwhelming and demotivating for new players, and that can give a negative lasting impression of GW2 combat.
My advice for new players is:
1) the classes dont follow the traditional archetypes found in other games. Each class can play a myriad of roles depending on builds/stats/etc. Pick a class based on playstyle and commit.
2) there are multiple end game content and various roles to play within those contents that would behoove you to have a character dedicated for it. Open World/Story (i.e. being able to solo champs and other hard bosses), Instanced PvE (fractals, strike missions, raids), and World vs World (zerg, small group, solo roaming). The roles to fill within Instanced PvE, for example, are usually offensive support (alacrity, quickness), defensive support/healer, and damage dealer (power vs condi). If you want to always find a group for these types of content, try to create a class build that fills one or more of those roles.
3) have an objective. the game is vast - and can feel daunting due to its breadth of content. To give your playtime purpose, have an objective you're trying to reach. Whether thats progressing the story, grinding gold for a specific purchase, completing achievements, mastering a class/build, crafting legendary equipment, unlocking a mount, etc. You can go for multiple at a time, but playing the game without an objective will lead to boredom and frustration at the lack of "progression".
4) have fun
As someone who gets a really bad urge to do 100% completion and finish all story chapters on every single character the whole "Don't worry about what you play, alts are easy to level" thing doesn't really apply to me :c
As someone with that same level of completionist attitude and 12 lvl 80 characters: don't worry about what you play, alts are easy to level. You can want to 100% the story and still level quickly. You can also hit max level, bullrush an elite spec, and go back and blitz through the living world episodes at record pace. It isn't one or the other. Stop worrying, and just do.
I would say that you should not rush yourself then. Just enjoy the game.
The Struggle is real. All or nothing. I make myself only play my ranger which was the first character I created. I don't have any extra time to play another character to the maximum. Holy F___
Your character can't just easily be leveled. He must be an experienced adventurer, battlehardened, knowledgeable of the world, and skillful.
Meanwhile there's me, player from gw1 and even played gw2 beta til now, and I have two characters with 75% Map comp, one of those two beat the story, outside that I am mastery level 255 and only have about 15k achievement points.
Yet I still feel like I've done everything. Lol.
Just wanted to say it was stumbling across your channel that got me back into GW2 and giving it a go. I had tried years ago and it never hooked me, mainly because I stupidly boosted a low level toon to 80 and was overwhelmed (you touch on this mistake in another vid) and said “fuck it”. Now that toon is 6 years old with loads of bday gifts and I’ll go back to it eventually, but I watched loads of your vids with my morning coffee, rerolled a new char and can’t believe how hooked I am now. Love the game and love your content, keep at it!
Nice vid!
I was also a bit overwhelmed when trying for legendaries, but I watched some youtube, read a bit and then set my heart on completing the only ones you realy should go for to start with - the accessories, amulet, backpack and rings. Why? Because you can use them on all toons.
I completed the prismatic regalia a couple of months back and boy what a journey. It took a long time (but its one of the only ones that does not require any WvW or PvP action to do) but it was so worth it. It made me go back to certain zones and really dive deep into how the zones work, their metas and how to be efficient. It also gave me an idea of the work needed for vision and aurora and a new sense of wonder when I see players that have the wierd baubles and rocks floating above their heads - now I see them and know what they did to achieve it.
Im about half way through both aurora and vision and having a lot of fun doing them, although I havent started any WvW yet, I guess I better get to it. I have completed the wayfarers henge already though - that gave me a whole new appreciation for draconis mons and I know it like the back of my hand including all the events and meta.
If I had to give one piece of advice, it would be this - if you think you are going to have a shot at legendary trinkets, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES burn through LW3 map currencies - they are like gold, there are no shortcuts to getting them as there are for LW4 map currencies, so do not convert them for any reason, just stock and save them. LW4 map currencies are different, you can get them daily from the volatile merchant in dragonfall, with jade slivers from jade servitors, with the eternal ice exchange, so well easy to accumulate.
Really excellent advice! You're explaining the "spirit" of Guild Wars very well!
As a GW1 veteran, I already knew at the start that GW2 will be very alt-friendly, so I created characters of all 8 (then just 8) classes right at the beginning in 2012. And then spent an exorbitant amount of time exploring the world with them, getting 100% map completion on all (!) because IT WAS FUN. The dynamic event system helps a lot to make the world feel alive, and somewhat different on subsequent playthroughs.
Someone once explained the alts of Guild Wars 2 is like street fighter. You can switch in and out the characters to fit the end of what you are after. Incredibly alt friendly!
I also thank you for the kind words!
I love the dynamic events. It's all I wanna do while leveling for the next story quest
I played WOW starting in 2006 for about 7 years. Did the guild bit, but that soon wore thin with all the drama. Gild Wars 2 is really fun for this old solo player. Your videos have really helped me get set up.
Excellent video! This touched on a lot of the unconscious pitfalls that new players fall into.
Fell in love with a Scourge Condition build once I got some hero points to get into the Elite Specializations
The "what class should I pick?" question always seemed really odd to me, as I tend to pick the class based on the vibes and combat style, so the class description made me interested in mesmer and the gameplay sold me on it. It was my first character, it's still my main character and I have a substantially higher play time on her then any other subsequent character. Also the fact that the sylvari are kind of like plant elves (who doesn't like elves?) and the female sylvari commander is voiced by Jennifer Hale aka Jane Shepard just makes it the best pick for me 😅
As a new player reading this I'm glad you liked your first pick. However in my case it didn't go that way at all even tho I basically did the same, I picked off of vibe and what I thought the playstyle would be (which ended up being theif) I liked the idea of being in stealth and agile but unfortunately for me the class is alot weaker than i had assumed. I am now level 60 and I don't like the class at all but feel I have spent too much time to not commit. My playstyle is now just the double pistol dps because I feel too squishy to do anything else, but I don't do enough dps to confidently run around on my own idk I'm stuck but I'll see the class to 80 I have the expansions cause they were on sale so I'll see if deadeye or the one with the staff change my mind. anyways sorry for the rant
I am on nd off with GW2 and I agree with this especially the fractals and the joining a guild. I would have definitely stuck around for longer periods of time at least if I was in an active guild. I dont know if it was because the solo content was enough for me or if joining a guild seemed daunting. But yes having a group opens up so much more possibilities and content.
The "Return" series of achievements that were added a couple years ago were the springboard I needed to get started on going for legendaries, despite being a day 1 player. Just have to redo Icebrood Saga and I'll have the amulet, and I've roughly 60-70% of Aurora done as a result of having to return to the S3 maps
I burned myself out on the game trying to PVP my way to a full legendary set (mind you i made it to 85% completion on the full set or so in that hardcore run)
After 2 months off the game feels fresh again, and this game does NOT punish you for taking time off, so im back to finish up my legendaries and shift my in game focus once again.
Advice for new players? Play whatever you enjoy, whenever you enjoy it, take your time, dont be afraid to spend some time away, and dont overcommit to massive goals that result in burnout (a concept we can apply to life in every sense)
Edit: Spelling
Excellent as always, mate :thumbs up:
As I commented elsewhere, I have burned myself out on GW2 by not progressing Legendaries for a long time and then jumping into them too hard. The major part of the problem is having to do WvW to get certain bits and, as I can’t stand that game mode, it’s soured me. So, the best thing for me to do is not do Legendaries. They’re nice and I want them but I don’t need them and working to get them would result in my stopping playing.
Just the other day I hopped back on and as I was exploring, someone in world-chat was asking a lot of the usual questions: what class is good, what about endgame, what's the meta, etc. Meanwhile I was horsing around with different weapons and having fun squishing werms. Glad to see I seem to be on the right track
Something enjoyable about that simplistic start ya know?
I actually just unlocked fractals and was informed I could already start working on the back item. Can’t wait to get a legendary. And as a sharable item it’s awesome!
Played the first year after release and haven't played since, until now, gonna give it a try again and your video was helpful!
Great Video. I am so addicted to this game after taking a 5 year break. I am as if not more addicted than I was with Everquest. I played wow until I couldn't handle the toxicity. The community here is great. I wish I knew more about the game. It is shrouded in a lot of mystery.
Hey, former EQ player here too. I'm betting there are a lot more of us than we realize...
I appreciate your video! As a returning player, its been a bit overwhelming. I have 5 lvl 80's and forgot how to play all of them XD .
Informative video, ty, i dont know english that much but it helped alot and i understood❤
Those jumping puzzles are a real pain as someone coming from other MMORPGs. Love your content very helpful!
Glad to do so! Thank you!
Probably my favorite part of the game. Years ago got a friend in to do the winter jump puzzle. Spent hours laughing my ass off at his frustration
I'm an EverQuest veteran that is trying Guild Wars 2 for the first time. The really cool classes lured me in:) Thanks for the advice mate.
Happy to help! Welcome to this great game!
I switched from WoW to Guild Wars 2 and im in love, this Game is amazing and is by far the best mmo. Your Channel ist great and helpful.
Hey. Great advice. I shared this video with my buddy who is getting started 😅
Glad it could provide some value. I mean we all make errors but I figured this was one that I could faithfully say is true!
Really enjoy your videos, theyre easily digestable, helps us noobs and has memes sprnckled in. Hope u u can branch out and grow the channel
You have no idea how much I needed this video 😅
Good to know, just started the game from zero after years of wow and BDO and this is some really good stuff to know.
Happy to help! Welcome to this wonderful game!
yea dude, but that is why i get nowhere! 😀 you move 10 steps, something is happening and you jump in. done with this, oh, theres a point of interest, done, oh, a npc talks to me, into the next thing. i was just about to do the next step in the story but i find myself 5 hours later done everything else and i just love it. the game is so full it never feels lost, lonely or empty.
The first tip, commitment, just hit me hard hahah. I've been playing GW2 for I think, around 4 years now (pretty casually to be honest). I just love playing different character/classes, so I have a Necromancer, a Guardian, a Warrior, an Engineer, an Elementalist and a Revenant... My "main" would be my Necro, and I'm only level 35!! (Well the Revenant is 80 but because I boosted it to see some endgame). I am now trying to commit to the Necro... but I'm also thinking "well, I should try the thief...". I have a problem!!
Joining and then making an active guild was huge motivation for me to keep playing. The social aspect of gw2 is what kept me interested
Oh it's fantastic! I think it's a big reason why I make content for this game!
Great Video, thank you for the advice.
I actually picked the game up a few weeks back (technically i played at launch but only for a month) and I reckon I will give some of these tips a try (although I really feel I need to play it in order haha)
I just started playing a couple months ago. I definitely had the urge to rush through so I can get to all the endgame content but am starting to slow down now that I'm realizing how much there is to do. Better to enjoy it a teaspoon at a time then force feed all at once and get sick of it.
A somewhat quick retcon I personally did was play the story quests in order. I started when the game came on Steam, and bought the HoT + PoF bundle to unlock the raptor for ease of travel. Couldn't afford LWs for a while, and by recommendation of another player I skipped LW1 and went into HoT first, which initially weirded me out a bit, but got through. But when I skipped LW3 and started PoF, I felt incredibly alienated and had to stop the quest from the start. So I decided to start from the top with LW1, and replay HoT with alternative choices for achievements. For a story bum like me, it was a much better experience for me. Going through PoF at the moment, it's pretty satisfying to finally get more mounts.
Valid point about clans though, I should probably find one to have more company.
I love that you can play any class in PvP without having to level it. My first experience was getting a character to lvl 5, then starting the PvP (I also made 4 other characters for PvP). When I got higher rank than all of my friends, I lvl 80 boosted my ele as a reward for being good to me. And only then did I play through the lvl 80 expansion story / explored the map / world bosses.
Now... it's 4 years later.... I need to get back into PvP. I committed to trying Revenant, but it feels so boring.
Its something that works best as a every now and then thing imo. I love pvp but I also enjoy other game features
I love GW2 now coming back after a break starting a new character and intend to just go with the flow enjoy the beauty of the game. I did rush my first character
Agree here, I finally, after years and years, settled on a main, engineer which I switch back and forth from scrapper to mech.
I bounced around alot too. It's nice that we finally settle on something! Scrapper is great fun too!
I AM actually starting again after about 4 years, and exactly what you said. "Slow down" and intend to enjoy the game at more of a casual pace, and not so much of a rush for power and end game.
Honestly it has made me appreciate this game 100% more because I take my time!
gz you inspired me to start working on my skyscale!
1. i spent a huge amount of time trying to make elementalist work for me (i like wizards) but i hated the game play. I was a face tank kinda player - so swapping to necro fit me better.
2. i spent a huge amount of gold/time *crafting* my ascended gear because i was too afraid of fractals/pvp/wvw - i also was doing it for all of my characters instead of focusing on 1 (or maybe 2).
3. i stupidly followed metabattle recommendations on open world builds - at the time (and often today) they recommend berserker/viper gear. That is fine for me now that i'm quite a bit better at dodging/not standing in stupid, but as a new player it just got me dead just tryign to fight normal core tyria mobs.
4. i waited a long time to make alts - fill all of your unused character slots - if nothing else, you'll get brithday rewards if you don't touch the character. And a level 1 sitting there doesn't hurt to just delete if you want to replace it.
I have gone back and forth on whether to start a new, blank, account. The appeal is there, but I am fairly limited on time, as well, and I feel like I don't want to be distracted from my main account.
I really enjoy your videos.
new account sounds interesting to me ;o
I wish I could just to have the option to change my damn handle after so many years, but losing all the appearances in my wardrobe would kill me lol
Really solid advice CD. I agree, i part timed this game for so long because I just thought so many things were out of reach for me. What a mistake. Get a guild, make friends and play the game!
Couldn't have said it better myself! Thank you for your continuous support buddy!
I died in a progression story, I decided to watch how Ritlock and umm the other one did in the attack before I clicked go to checkpoint. The coolest thing happend, after about 5 mins, Ritlock and the chick actually ran over and revived me! Betcha you didn't know that one!
Also, I was doing one of the dynamic, help defend the town ones and got 'defeated, I tried the same thing, just watching the villagers do battle, Low and Behold the villagers came and revived me too!
Hero point trains. I would ( and still should) jump in on hero point trains, especially for the Heart of Thorn maps.
I’m giving this tip early (if you did cover this then I’m emphasizing it more and if you didn’t give this tip then here it is) play what you want and what interests you BUT also consider the other classes in the same gear category. I have 2 80s, necro and engineer that I’m both getting ascended on. When I go to make 2 more 80s which will be the Ranger (medium armor class) and the Mesmer (light armor class) so if I ever just wanna transfer my gear over I can because my new characters will share the same armor class. Yes you can just buy exotic power gear for 50-70g but vipers is Atleast double that. I’d rather share my gear in the mean time to enjoy which ever character in the moment until I get the gold to have 4 fully kitted characters. A little tedious but it helps if the character your farming on gets stale and you wanna pick right up on your new lvl 80 and continue the same grind
I just got started yesterday in GW2. Thank you for the video. Still looking for a guild to join lol.
Hey happy to help! This is a great time to be playing!
Thank you! I didnt realise commiting to 1 class had soured my take over the years, a single lvl 80 is... oof me.)
Glad I could help! It's funny because I based my entire thiught of a game on that one class choice when in reality I should have played around with some alts to get some different perspectives!
Man, a few years back after season 1 not being re-playable, but before other means of obtaining blade shards I had to FARm the Not so Secret Puzzle, because I really anted the back piece for my thief. It scarred me.
Dude I literally just bought this game yesterday, perfect timing!
You got my sub for mentioning 3 kids. Im expecting my third next month :) I boughs gw2 when it come come out but it didint click. Right nów imreturning to play on my 8 y old necromancer that had level 20 in that time.
3 hours later watching videos... still deciding my class LOL
It's very very forgiving if you don't pick one that you don't like. Alts are very easy to make!
im happy as a new player i chose that same red energy glider xD every video ive seen people use it and even people in game are using it so im happy its ascool as i thought it was
It's my favorite! It just matches my aestetic perfectly
I’ve played a mage or a spell caster in every single game. I chose elementalist in 2013 because I thought it was the most mage like. I stuck with it and Ele remains my main and by far my favorite class. Even though it’s NOT a mage lol.
Funny I never choose spell caster but after trying a few back then (2013) Ele was the one I liked the best and completed with.
I am a new GW2 player. Came from FFXIV which I still love btw. GW2 has all the things I wish FFXIV had and FFXIV has a lot going for it that GW2 lacks. Playing both seems to be the perfect combo. 2 amazing games.
I'm about to trial ffxiv. I have hears tons of great things about it and I am interested in the journey!
ARR can be a slog to get through but the story is good and every expansion after that is great. I like ARR personally but some people find it boring. Typical "it get's better after Xhrs" situation. @@CaffeinatedDad
Great vid ty
I stopped playing the game when I tried the jumping puzzle. I'm gonna start playing again though
Oof I know that feeling lok
I really like your videos man.
Glad you like them! I appreciate it!
The class issue is the main reason I haven't really committed to GW2. I can't find a class that I feel fits me. By the time I've tried a few, I'm burnt out on having done the same stuff 4 or 5 times.
True, but did you know you can test the classes out in the spvp lobby? Once you Re level two you can go in and play all the specs that you have unlocked!
Great build... Quick Q: Would this work with 2H Hammer?
Really liked playing this game. Bought all the expansions. Even though my laptop passed requirements easily I had a lot of performance issues. It just kept getting really hot and lagging which made combat a real chore to soldier through. Such a shame really probably would’ve kept playing if I didn’t experience these fps dips all the time. I migrated to EVE Online which my system runs without a problem. I miss this game from time to time though.
as someone who had many a gaming laptop used for uni and portability etc, i advise buying a gaming pc when you can. everything just feels so nice on max graphics and running smoothly etc so, when you are in a position to save up some money i recommend you treat yourself, as a laptop gamer to another, you deserve to not worry about overheating and whether its plugged in and if the gpu can handle it etc
Hi just wanna ask what should i do after buying hot+pof bundle expansion?i heard from most vet that i should unlock mounts 1st but it requires to be lvl 80
HP trains! They're a godsend. Max out a class and half of another in an hour ;P they're up many times day from random commanders on weekends Hot, pof and even eod maps. 1 hp train I joined did all 3!!!
Great advice - just stick to a class no matter if you feel that you like them or not, without knowing if you even like any of the elite specs of it that drastically change how they play and are only available after buying the expansions AND hit Level 80 BUT take your time in the world, so if you finally find out that you dont like what you are playing, you feel a kind of certainty that clicking the uninstall button will be a good decision.
I agree. 10/10 advice.
Honestly. Its the worst advice that i have seen for any game in a long time. GW2 doesnt make it easy AT ALL to find a class that suits you and thats not just because they have such a penetrant color identity, but also because they often completely change how they play the moment you have to choose an elite spec. That those are not already available at Level 20 is still one of the worst design decision in an MMORPG that exist to help new players decide what they want to play.
Its the same how you have to go through the map-checklists (because calling that "exploration" is nothing but a bad joke) with every new character that completely burns out players before they are even able to experience the rest of the game.
So why would you advice someone to just stick to something AND take their time with it even if they think it doesnt feel right to them (may it be with level 20, 40, 60 or 80, when they finally find out how the rest of the game will feel with the class)? And its combat system is FAAAR away from being good enough to carry the gameplay for the long time that it needs to even get to the endgame, even worse if you dont have a mount yet.
So no... i would say that every new player should 1. watch a bunch of videos that show the classes and cross out every class with effects, theme and colors you dont like.
2. Watch videos about the rest of the elite specs, because thats what you eventually will end up with and that is going to change your class drastically. e.g. Before EoD the Ranger was forced to either become a magic melee DPS or a fkin healer. If you started out with the idea of a bow-wielding WoW-type Ranger, you would have ended up disappointed af.
3. Ask yourself if its worth it to play up to level 80 with the core class, through a terrible core story and boring maps for just the chance of finding a gameplay that suits you.
If yes, i hope you have fun. If no, play something else, because if it turns out that you dont like it, you gonna have to replay everything from start to finish again, because none of the map-checklists actually carry over and you cant skip the core-story. :)
They honestly should teach this in school on how to turn of a big chunk of potential new players right at the choice of class. And how they never tried to fix that problem or at least attempt to put some bandaid on it is beyond me. Like just let us dye the color of our spell effects and half of the classes would look so much more appealing to many people. Honestly... how many dont play a Mesmer because everything is colored in pink?
what i wish, is 1 character can do all class like ff14, or at least when we make new character, we no need to complete map again.
but I'm agree, commit to 1 class and do not look back!!! 600 hours and i just touch down with beginning Eod, done all LW got my Griphon, roller beetle, and sky scale. 3 alt with 100% map complete. so yeah being using core eng, scarper ,holo, and machinis change it every time i log in by roll dice lol so i didnt bored play the class.
so far its fun game
I've been in and out whether to play this game or not (massive game) but this video really helped me to just go and start.
Question: Can I just play the free version and buy the expansion later on if I decide to? Thank you!
Absolutely! The base game is free, albeit there are some inhibitors(limited trading post, mail, some chat features). But once you buy the expansion you get that area!
I'm in the middle of starting over. I played to cap back before there were expansions or any of the extras. This time I'm going a little slower in that I'm not leaving a zone until I've done all the things I find. I mean I'm sure there are more events and masteries that I might have missed. Even then, I'm already 72 as levelling has been crazy fast. I've gotten some tomes and such. I had free levels from anniversaries. I used none of them. I still have them all. I already had an 80 of every class before this point. I kind of wish that levelling was a little slower and I could go to more areas without having to be deleveled to do them because it's still a lot easier to do them now.
1:22 yeah, especially when he pick the Hammer as main weapon )
About the "Praise Joko"-Joke: I am so committed that I carry a Joko bible in my inventory at all times. That's how much I love this community.
About the classes: a friend from a guild of mine said something wise: "this game is not meant to be played on a single character. Treat it more like a fighting game or league of legends with your characters being your roster for different content." And I agree. Ofc playing only one class, spec or build is totally legit. But you don't have to restrict yourself to one.
this right here just bummed me out I like playing 1 toon and relaxing on alt's sadly saying this ruins it for me feeling I have to micromanage 3 or so more toons burns me out, other then the comment I said above, this was another factor that burned me out.
no its fine to play only one
its not needed to play more
but if you want to, its highly encouraged because even swapping gear is no problem, so its just alt friendlier than most mmos
not alt needed
I've had the same experience playing SWTOR.
There is a mechanic in the game from which if you finish every class story (8 in total of about 12-15 hours long) you get a special emblem around your player name and a title saying "Legendary Player".
I slowly began rushing every class story to the point where I was just skipping every dialogue line entirely just because I wanted to be considered one of these "legendary" players.
Once I got the title, the magic of it wore off in about 2-3 days and was left realizing that I've speedrun 80% of the game not really understanding anything and now I've got almost nothing left to do...
Everything really is about the journey and not the destination and not just with MMOs but with any game!
So take your time to stop and smell the flowers, it will make everything more enjoyable and memorable in the long run.
Looking to back into an MMO that I really like and can slowly get into, I found your video and wow, your me lmao. The need to complete all the stuff and what not, damn.
I am a Chef/Owner of a restaurant in Canada, I understand what you are saying. I would love to know what sever and guild you are in as when I get home from work I am going to download this game again.
Ha! That's the sentiment! I may only have a little time each day and night to get stuff done so I like it being an enjoyable experience versus stressful.
We have an NA guild, you can message caffeinated dad
@@CaffeinatedDad Sweet thanks man! Always better to play with people and get to know them, its part of the fun for an MMO
I wish i had a pc and GW2 in 2012😭 i love the game but i so so wish i could go back in time and begin play it when it released
lets say that i made my GW2 account on Steam and has regretted it ever since and is planning on making an completely new account with an actual ArenaNet account would that be a good idea or would i just burn myself out? i personally don't mind starting over, my only gripe is that i don't like (HATE) doing jump puzzles especially the ones i had to do to unlock my Skyscale.
Hmmm. I don't want to give you any misinformation but I'm motivated sure how the steam account plays into it. What issue are you having with on your current account?
do you have a scrolling combat addon? how do you display those burning / bleed icons?
If you haven't found it yet, it should be in the settings, called simple condition or simple combat floaters or something like that lol it's been a while sense I've looked at the settings
I'm actually a new player and i like the fact it stops and makes me think. Currently my highest character is 20 and i have 13 mastery points. But Instead of using them I decided to wait till lvl 21 and invest them in a specialization instead. Few mmos make your character progression feel worth it instead of follow the path with minute changes only being gear
Exactly! There's quite a bit that guild wars 2 did right especially with character progression!
I am a new player and I am having a blast playing with my friend but we cant seem to find any cool looking gear anywhere we are having the same skin from lvl 1 and we are lvl 40 . Is this going to change later ? also i cant find any fractals and nobody seem to be going dungeons . I dont want to pvp right now ( came from WoW where i just pvped and it scarred me for life )
Most dungeons aren't really grouped for unless on that map. Also fractals are for max level characters! The cool looking gear you can find here and there but I'd say you'll be changing in an out often as you level!
meanwhile im watching videos on what i SHOULD be doing while avoiding doing what i should be doing XD
When i first started 9 months ago and saw "Guardian" and went "yep, mine. Everyone needs tanks for every content" then i realized how professions worked and was pleasantly surprised. Now i have 7 alts and they're all super fun but guardian is 100% my main.
Hello fellow guardian! I have mained guardian ever since release day and I have gotten all elite specs. I still have fun with all my other fully geared alts but guardian is also my true main 🙂 Absolutely love it and I’ve loved it for years
The commitment part is really hard for me, especially now when there is a big balance patch coming and I don't want to spend leveling and learbing a class and then realizing it's actually horrible now.
All the classes are viable for open world and leveling. The tuning stuff will more affect endgame activities, so you can always level something new and use tools you unlocked the first time like mounts and maybe masteries. Go enjoy the game without that anxiety for a bit and you will likely know more about your interests as you do.
But if you enjoy playing your class, what does it matter?
Play for fun, not for min/max
@@DevGamerBeard Thats not a thing you sound like a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum in a grocery store just go be miserable on another game lmao you clearly just dont like GW
wtf are we playing the same game? Who cares if one class does a little bit more damage than another if you're not enjoying it.
@@Thomasnmi exactly, I get sick of min/max elitists that gripe about every game patch. I have a friend who obsesses over this even before starting any toon in any game.
Class to pick: What animations you like best! :)
I would not buy the Instant Level 80 item using gems (and real money) and try to level a character until I realized I did not like it then deleted it. I didn't know I could go to the PVP area and test it there.
If I'm new to Guild Wars and currently have the base game, what would be the best expansion to buy?
Personally I think oath of Fire offers the best because of mounts but secrets of the obscure looks promising!
a few points :
- some of the dialogue in core Tyria ( or in all the DLC's ) is very funny . Don't run away after the quest has ended if NPC's are talking but take in the jokes .When bored in a zone or with the storyline , simply go elsewhere with similar level ( the entire ORR stuff can get on your nerves so taking a pause from it isn't a bad idea )
- start with a d**n ranger with bow/bear when completely new to the game
- do NOT use any level 80 boost until you KNOW the core class ( the only reason to do that is to quickly get the mounts and - from what I understand - ANet has remedied that )
I wouldn't go for legendaries as a priority at all . I see folks getting annoyed all the time because they think they HAVE to have it ( thinking gw2 is a gear based game ) , even ascended isn't required ... you can do all the content with exotic gear
Excellent point about the dialogue there is so much hidden conversations and features that are all through core tyira that I feel people skip!
How to join guild though? Is it not available to f2p players? Cause whenever I go to the tab, it is empty
I like the comparison with WoW. When you have subscription you feel like you have to play. With GW2 I enjoy the game and just chill. No rush.
It's honestly stressful! I hate having to feel like I have to play
Just kinda off topic, just wanna ask if im new player playing ranger, should i play short bow or longbow?
It depends as they both have their benefits. Longbow is great physical damage and bursty while the shortbow is more of a skirmishes weapon, that looks to whittle targets down with conditions. Personally I like the short bow but that's me
@@CaffeinatedDad for me as long as its DoT damage I'm down haha lol...
@@irsyadasyrafmohamad9784 Shortbow it is!
So, being new to the game (As in just started yesterday) I used my boost on a random class im not interested in to have the mount. If i delete said character, i wont lose the ability to use said mount will i? Like on my other toons?
if you did the story in pof to unlock the mount for real (rather than the trial mount unlock you get at level 10) then yes it is perma unlocked for all alts on the account.
@@Jalae Thanks :3
The fact that you have 3 kids makes you very friendly for me.
Can you share gears across your characters or is it character bound?
Gear is character bound oncce equipped. Except legendary gear, I think that can share across characters.
@@RavenRecoil Thanks
ascended gear is account bound as well. meaning you can switch between chars (between same armor class)
@@Jalae cool did not know that.
Joining a guild was quick. I just typed in global, noob with no guild and bam! Like a stray pup adopted by a huge pack of werewolves
i love this video.
Hey glad you enjoyed it! The game is a real wormhole lol
I'll still do it again. I liked the learning process including the mistakes I made.
Just came back after long hiatus and having a blast! Just finished Aurora. Conflux next!
Praise Joko!!! and Praise Papa Mukluk!!
Loool muk!
I don’t really get people saying that elementalist isn’t a mage.
Is it the classic mage? I guess not, but it’s still magic.
Perhaps, I suppose it falls into each person's definition of a mage, like a spellcaster at a distance is what I believe most imaginr
I guess one of the problems I've had with the game so far is that yeah, once you finish the story there's technically a lot to do, but most of it is grinding. And to be honest, I'm not really a huge fan of spending the hour or so I have doing something that will only barely tick the "progression meter" forward. The main reason I started loving GW2 was for the story and holiday events and not for the grinds or raids or anything, so when I run out of story I just kind of... drift away from the game for several months or even years at a time
What masteries would you get first/in order?
For ease of use? The auto loot ones under central tyrias masteries. Personally I went for the legendary starter and then fractals
after a hiatus, I think I will get back. GW2 is always a play intensively for 3 to 4 months, stop for a year. Rinse and repeat.
Last rush was PvP legendary. I ran 1 season and a half, enough I think for one of the easier legendary, then I stopped somewhere midway to one of the legendary trinkets (I think it was Aurora, not Vision). I remember I had to feed 50 apples to a guy somewhere in a volcanic island for something I don't even remember what it was. This particular time gated activity sucked.
There is a couple things about Guild wars 2 that are slower and grindy for grind sake but all in all its fun to dip in and out of
