Although that history would be filled with battle, conflict, plague and poverty. A magical disaster would devastate the people and forever change the landscape of Cantha, but may have also set them up for a prosperous future.
There is lots of lore that can easily be overlooked in Guild Wars 2, if you don't pay attention to it you may miss it.
