    With the price of CMH bulbs being so high it makes financial sense to use MH for vegetative growth and HPS for fruiting.

    Just FYI, You can get Metal Halide bulbs in 175 watts for medium base(E26/27) or mogul base(E39/40). They're not the best lighting you're going to get but they do the job. I'm using two different lights with that size bulb, one with a mogul bulb and one with a medium bulb since that is just what I currently have.

    Recently ive been using cmh 315w units by lummi and maxibright. The lummi 315w are great but i hear the lummi twin 630w single ended units have trouble. I also have a maxibright 315w horizon unit but that runs very warm unlike the lummi were the only heat is from the bulb. So recently maxibright released a 600w cmh direct hps replacement bulb that works with older magnetic ballasts, these bulbs seemed to be great until i had a power cut for only seconds but when the ballast tried to restrike the bulb it blew it, i hear the cmh bulbs dont like being turned on until they cool down , now these bulbs are £100 a throw and if you have many then this can be an expensive problem, i have come to the conclusion that maxibright dont seem as good quality as i first thought although i love the cmh spectrum. The lumatek zues 600watt led has to be the next step forward for me, just thought id share my experience so maybe someone doesnt have the same problems as me and buy a winning light first time round .

    I am gonna be biased as an owner but I love my air cooled 630cmh a 120mm usb fan(almost no power at 55cfm) pulling through is all it takes, it runs pretty cool, about 8-9 deg hotter than house temp in my 4x4. Also getting both bulbs spectrums is worth the money. the bulbs last forever compared to the others.

    what you forget to mention on hps is spectrum results matters on the bulb, I used the eyehortilux super hps bulb which actually has more blue in spectrum then most hps bulbs and has more unol per watt then a 315 cmh,also the genesis bulbs put out more blue then other hps bulbs too and also has more umol per watt then cmh lights,but good video

      I've used Eyehortilux lamps exclusively now for around 5 years. Though costly, they're well worth the price because of producing superior yields. As with most anything, you get what you pay for most of the time. Since yield is directly proportionate to lighting, they're a must have for me.

    Hi Shane..am using 2 250w hps sunMaster for 4x4x7.5 tent. The bulbs are 4 year old. Am getting slow growth on veg. When moving to another room with a window for 2-3 hours the plant seems to react to the intense sun light. I know ppl say to replace after~1 year.
    Do you suppose the bulbs are the culprit?
    Is it to be expected that a 4yo hps will have almost nothing to give 6 weeks plant in veg? Thought light loss was about 10% a year.

    I’ve always preferred to use a medium sized reflector with a 600-1000w HPS opposed to the larger hoods that are great for maximizing the footprint of the light, but they sacrifice much of the light intensity and penetration down into the lower part of the plants. I have used just about all of the popular hoods from the very large Dominator XL, Raptors, parabolic hoods and medium sized hoods have been much more effective for me by focusing the light over a slightly smaller footprint but at a considerably more even area with more intensity which seems to yield more than the theory that the bigger the better the hood is as they definitely lose their intensity around the edges very drastically. Thanks again for the great videos, Shane! 💯👍✌️

I'm making a setup with the migro in the middle to compliment my 4 DIY cxb3590 50W COB's (basicly its the same as the optic 1's) in a 3 by 3 tent. Hi, you do really great videos. I have a question. I know you can't do the experiments again, but I was wondering what your general idea as to where A. "daylight" metal halides, (like Eye Hortilux Blue and Sunmaster Nova) and B. "high output"(2000k) hps would compare? I assume you used standard mh and 2100k hps in video? I believe Hortilux Blue has much more efficient par spectrum than standard mh? Thanks.

    • @MIGROLIGHT
      @MIGROLIGHT  Před 6 lety +1

      Most MH spectrum are very close as with HPS. Don't be fooled by 'dual spectrum' MH or HPS bulbs. The best of all worlds is about 3500k CMH. I am at a loss as to why anyone would chose ups or my anymore as a HID option. CMH Rules 💪💪

    • @piratemccall
      @piratemccall Před 6 lety

      I agree the dual arc bulbs suck. cmh is very cool, but the 315w only kind of sucks, makes it pretty big cost upfront, at least here in US... But I'd really like to know about the daylight MH and HO 2000k hps, because I have been looking at dozens of spectral distribution charts recently, and your vids are awesome, I love your data and tests, very helpful. But I would love for you to look into/quantify how these specific HIDs compare +/-, because they seem to have unique qualities vs "standard" HID.
      With the specific Daylight mh and HO hps:
      1. Daylight "full spectrum" MH (Hortilux Blue, Sunmaster Full Nova): I agree that most all "standard" $25-$50 MH seem to have very similar spectral distributions, I term them as "spiky" like this:
      www.stellarnet.us/spectrometer-application-note-how-do-different-light-sources-affect-crops/metal-halide-lamp-spectral-distribution/
      With relatively low µMOL and PAR wattage.
      But, the "full spectrum" MH, that run more like $80-$100, like Hortilux Blue, Sunmaster Full Nova, they have a spectrum very, very similar to cmh, with, from what I see, µMOL and PAR wattage identical to standard HPS like the one you tested, but with a very full spectrum. Like this:
      www.dudegrows.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mh-spectral-distribution-chart.jpg
      2. HO 2000k HPS(Sunmaster Super HO)
      again, pricier than "standard" 2100k HPS bulbs, but look to produce more real red than orange of standard HPS, and 10%+ more powerful.
      If you could test those, that'd be awesome, I think each represents the best use of MH and HPS technology at the moment, and each offers distinct advantages over "standard" HID. It would be awesome to see how they rate in your testing.. Anyway, thanks for the great vids.

      Metal halide is useful in veg because it has 20% blue and this helps keep the growth compact. Unfortunately the bulbs are much less efficient but you need lower light intensity for veg so it suits l ots of people. The best overall sollution is use CMH bulbs at 3000k or 4000k through the whole grow. More efficient and better spectrum.

    Why is CMH not getting the credit it deserves, specially as being a full spectrum light? I'm really thinking about getting a CMH over a Hlg quantum board.

      @@cjhification Well,i Run the Lumii Solar 630 DE since a View days and i have nothing to complain. The plants seem to Love the Light,they are growing really fast. The lamp produces less heat then a 600w HPS. Only Thing that can be better ist that the Lumii is not dimmable,but thats No big Thing for me cause i only Go full Power. I think You wont get a better lamp at this price range.

    Using a 1k HPS in a large hood is actually much less efficient. You want a more focused hood and around 60 watts per square foot. Also if that were true then please explain how the Gavitas with their extremely focused hoods are the most efficient HPS lights vs a DE in a XXXL Raptor. Big hoods are only good for stretching your footprint but you end up with around 30 watts per square foot and lose a lot of penetration.

      the gavita lamps are truly meant for the green house growing in Amsterdam they use 1000s of them in massive green houses to supplement natural thats why they have a more focused beam down so they can hang them much higher. I am not saying you can not use them in a grow tent , but unless you keep the plants short you will burn them. 60w per sq yeah sounds about right thats what I use , but I use a 1x1m vertical sunking reflector I can get the 1000w down to 18" of the plants with no burning, try doing that with a Givita and it will burn them even at 3 foot away the grow ten is only 6 foot tall with pots you have about 3 foot of growing room no one tells you that in the grow shop, Gavitas are hung high as fuck I would not use them in a tent light bleach the fuck out of them www.gothicarchgreenhouses.com/grow-lights.html
      p.s
      for every foot away the light is from the plants the amount of light is 1/4th so @ 1foot you will get 140.000lux/ @2foot 1/4th you will get 35,000. @3foot you will get 1/9th or 15,555lux you want the light as close as you can to the plant without burning or light bleaching you can get a 600w with in a foot using a sunking @1foot its 90,000lux, a 1000w needs to be 3 feet away thats only 15,555lux

    Hps is old tech , in 2019 there crap. Cmh lights are simply 3 times better as the cri rating is 3 times higher. Hps lights are not an option after using multiple single ended 315w cmh units. Every aspect of the grow is much better and plants much healthier. Hps are street lights thats what they do best get with the times people .
