      @@SweetManCannabizz Just because they are "out of date" doesnt mean they arent still one of the best ways to grow. I would have to run an electric heater in order to run LED so all the extra efficiency is for nothing. You can pick up used CMH fixtures for pennies on the dollar these days and for people just starting out that is an excellent option. Thats why we are still out here learning what bulb is best. I have the exact same question, how does the Hortilux compare?

    • @adaptercrash
      @adaptercrash Před rokem

      They all seem decent the hortiux Is a horticulture Bulb tho not really a grow cmh, so my plant will hang out under it and stay healthy for longer periods where other bulbs will make the plant sick. I can't flower till spring so im using it to keep it warm and as a light source. I wouldn't recommend it as a grow bulb. If your pumping shit out you don't really need it, if you wanna plant to hang out it's great. They all similar but Philips didn't burn as long as advertised. The hortilux Is also larger designed for the bigger units no one wants to use and takes advantage of the units reflector. It would be really good for a bonsai tree if we could get seeds that would actually germinate.

    looking back at your DE hps test, it was only carried out in a 3x3 area where as the Lec was carried out in a 5x5 area, even though the 1000w DE has a foot print of 5x5. If the test was done in a reflective area would that mean you can compare the sum of all footprint areas of both theese lamps even though the footprint size is different?

With all the new digital CMH ballasts available, Phantom II, Galaxy, Prism, Nanolux ect., it would be cool to see a side by side of the ballast output for each unit on the same CMH lamp. I got two of these 4100k Phillips bulbs (huge) 2 ballasts and 2 15ft e39/mogul cord to the ballast for 60. Where I’m from when your done with growing the equipment becomes similar to old unused excersize equipment. People just want it gone. I can get a few more if anyone needs them
    Also. What’s a good reflector for them? Just a reflector.
    How do these compare to the full spectrum led lights? I have 1 240watt full spectrum led I’m going to use as supplemental lighting. I can grow cannabis legally but I love cacti 🌵 so that’s whats under my lights.

    • @GrowersHouse
      @GrowersHouse Před 7 lety +1

      Realistically, having both the 3100 and 4200 bulbs in one fixture would be great for both vegetative and flowering phases of growth. You'll have a very nice and well rounded spectrum with that setup. Seeing that the 3100 bulb has slightly more output than the 4200, you could also think about throwing another 3100 when you go into flower or maybe just the last 4 weeks of flower. Other than that, you have an awesome setup!

    • @timturk1899
      @timturk1899 Před 6 lety

      TAZ Tactical You can run them on a magnetic HPS ballast. That's how I first tried the tech myself and was impressed. Recently got a 630w CMH-DE low frequency square wave ballast with a remote and dimmer/booster and a digital read out from Ceramic Solutions out of N. California. Growers Choice are very popular but are using high frequency ballasts now. Which work, but lamps diminish 3-4 times faster. I bought a Hydro Crunch CMH-DE ballast and lamp and had to return because of lamp flickering. The Ceramic Solutions ballast and lamp (I use in an AC/DE hood from Sun Supply) has been excellent so far. Great guys! I started with a $20 used HPS magnetic ballast and bought the 400watt Phillips CMH (Retro white? Master color?) and was very impressed. Those older Phillips bulbs are still in demand, so if you didn't use them, they'll sell! Good luck!

    • @GrowersHouse
      @GrowersHouse Před 7 lety +3

      If you have a 4' x 8' space, I'd recommend evenly spreading them out over that 4' x 8', and then kicking the two outer fixtures an extra 6 inches toward the perimeter of your 4' x 8' area. You'll want to do this to even out the intensity of your canopy. The cross lighting from fixtures being next to each other has an additive effect that isn't present on the opposite side of the outer fixtures, if you get what we're saying.

      Trevor Speck I would do CMH. I got a fixture for $240 for a 315 watt. It's in a 3x3 with carbon filter. I also have a blackdog phyto-2 200 in another 3x3. It was $664. It's doing really good and it's only 210 watts but you could get two 3x3's and two CMH light set ups for around $600. I spent about $1500 on my two tents mostly due to the blackdog. But you have to remember. 210 watts for a 3x3, 5 year warranty and no bulb changing. In 5 years I'm sure I will have to change the bulb on the cmh at least a couple times and they are $100 bulbs. So right there add another $200 to $300 on top of the original light purchase for around a 5 year period but none for blackdog.

      For bloom, you should use 1 per 4x4 closed tent, as beyond that, you will have less light in the ends of the tent. The bulb is still good compared to newage 2021 LED, as you have a ton of UV which increases resin.
