#MovieReview - Zábava
As always, please form your own opinions! But I just didn’t like this one. That doesn’t mean you won’t!
hmm, Tarantino is famous for hating on home viewing and being all in on theatres so its no surprise. A remaster needs a champion. Also, not one of my favorite films of his, might be his worst. idk. thank you for the review, I'll stick with my blu ray for now.
I've come to trust your opinion based on my own comparisons where I arrived at the same, or very similar conclusions. There is no way I'm going to swap out every single standard Blu-ray for the UHD version (I have too many films to do that). With that said it's important to weed out the duds from the jump. This is a dud....
I always form my own opinions regardless of what others think. That being said, my opinion is that this 4K sucks ass. It’s probably the certified coaster disc of the year.
What screen do you have? I have moved from long term 1080 to 4K and the darkness is shocking across a number of films.
Thank you for being honest!
This is massively dissapponting for Tarantino fans who have waited patiently.
edit: Bought it,not to shabby at all.
This is proving to be a divisive 4K. Some people seem to love it, some seem to have problems with it. Interesting…
@@richesmovietrailers953 yeah was just checking a few other reviews and they liked it.
I loved it 🤷
Everyone but him thinks it looks great so don’t be disappointed.
@@ethanedwards7557 yep bought it since and it was fine. Not top tier but good.
Thanks for saving me some bucks. Quentin and his cinematographer need to scan the original 35mm negative
But where is Tarantino in this? Obviously, it's just a money grab if they have invited him into the process.
This film has a 2K DI pipeline! There is no "original 35mm" there is an OCN of the filmed footage without any work done to it. But the visual effects in this movie made it have to be output digitally at the end of post production at 2K. There was prints made theatrically from the 2K digital files. Film outs scanned in 4K are never better quality than upscales. Look at 3:10 To Yuma on 4K UHD for prime evidence
@@alyssacrypto The same situation existed for the Lord of the Rings trilogy though. If you go back to Jeff's review of that 4K, he specifies that they rescanned the OCN and THEN put the 2k processing on top of the rescan, so that while the CGI remains 2K upgrades, the actually filmed parts get put in at 4K. It IS an improvement. What Jeff is hoping for is to rescan the negative then put the 2K post processing on top of that (and the OCI portion would be true 4K in that instance). But Peter Jackson supervised that, and if the same were done to this film, you'd want Tarantino watching over that.
@@jeffmason8401 He was wrong. They said they did that, but they didn't. Many videographers concluded its the same 2K DI from 2002 (put originally on DVD) for LOTR 4K discs. Upscaled just like hundreds of reference discs are on the UHD format.
Only Sony have done comprehensive rebuilds and the effects are still upscaled not re-rendered. You can't make it native magically. Nothing is wrong with upscaling though.
@@alyssacrypto are you saying 3:10 looks better than inglorious? I could of sworn on the specifications that Yuma was shot on film though.
Don't understand why Tarantino won't do new 4K restorations of his films.
For a guy so keen on shooting on film he sure doesn't seem too keen on releasing his films on the format best suited for the original theatrical presentation.
Because he cares more about the theatrical experience
@@ammcpvpproductionstudios8860 then you'd think he'd want people to have as close to a cinematic theater experience as possible when his films are no longer in theaters. Hello? The hell are you saying lol
@@NYC_Goody I’m saying what this guy has said during most of his career
@@ammcpvpproductionstudios8860 maybe you're misinterpreting? Because that sounds ridiculously dumb that you wouldn't want your audience to have a cinematic experience
@@NYC_Goody he want the cinematic experience in theaters not at home 😂 I’ll link a video give me a sec
Damn, they just had to mess this one up too. One of his best.
I would love to see Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs get the 4K treatment but off a proper 35mm scan.
Hateful 8 would look fantastic with a 4K DI and proper HDR too
Reservoir dogs wouldn’t look absolutely amazing due to the low budget being spent on cheap film stock, but I’m sure it will look great.
Anyone remember that old Reservoir Dogs DVD in the black case? With the robbers on the front, the shithole transfer, and the poorly laid-out features? The Inglorious Basterds 4K is a complete repeat of that Reservoir Dogs DVD.
@@L1ft0ff The Hateful Eight would he awesome on 4K, not only would it be another 70mm movie on the format, but it would also be the first Ultra-Panavision 70 movie in the format.
Your dream has come true
Jesus that's disappointing. I've wanted this for a year now and they made it so badly. Good review tho man! Good and honest.
Wasn’t this supposed to come out over a year ago? They literally had no excuses
@@nationalcoasternews5798 Movie was shit anyway.
@@MrZarono movies a masterpiece don't be silly
Completely disagree with this review, thought it looked amazing. Well worth the upgrade to 4K.
Someone get this man a new 4k TV. I think it looks amazing on my Ks8000 and Ps5.
My TV and player are better than that. Lol
@@JeffRauseo Maybe you need new eyes?
Sounds like your equipment for SDR and HDR isn't calibrated properly.
I bought the movie and I have to disagree with you. It looks way improved than the blu-ray. To say the Blu-ray looks better than the 4K is a huge lie.
Yeah, I feel like I watched a completely different transfer then he's describing? In no world would I ever watch the BluRay now that I have the 4k and it's a legitimately beautiful transfer overall imo.. Maybe not quite reference quality but there is zero gimmick or "dvd" look to it.....
Except the terrible green subs which blend in some scenes ruining the disc imo!
Jeff doesn't know as much as he thinks he does.
@@g-m-b6672The subtitles are annoying in general.
Idk what you viewed it on but the 4K is a massive improvement over the blu ray, a shame everyone in the comments cancelled the pre order instead of judging it on their own setup
I agree. I totally love this release. I'm watching on a hdr10+ capable tv, so maybe that makes a big difference, but I'ts really good!
I'm not sure they actually could have done a new 4k transfer since, presumably, the film would have been edited digitally as well as colour graded digitally. If it were cut on film, they could just scan the original negative, clean everything up, and they'd be good, but if it were edited digitally, they'd have to hunt down the original negative, if it even exists anymore, re-edit the film, and match it cut for cut, which for obvious reasons, would be a huge pain in the ass.
I still agree, though. They could have done better.
You think Tarantino would’ve edited digitally?
No it was cut on film and there is a negative.
Gosh damn, I have been waiting on some Tarrentino on 4k and I love 4k as a format. But when manufacturers do this kind of half ass job on 4k I would prefer if they didn’t even release these versions. Thanks for the review and keep up the good work. Let’s not support these poor transfers and force these guys to put the work in on these transfers.
This makes me want to make a review channel. As you can see from the comments you have an influence and people sometimes won’t purchase movies based on what you say. The hdr highlights are bright on purpose, the facial details and textures look much more natural on the 4K disc. This is far better than the standard blu ray. Watching both on a decent setup in low light it should be fairly obvious during close ups and especially outdoor shots. Even the opening scene on the farm should be enough to sell it. I know it’s your opinion but it really minimizes the work of people who clearly put a lot of hours into transferring this film while maintaining the director’s and the cinematographer’s visual intent.
Go for it! Make a review channel. I’d love to hear more opinions and have more people make videos to promote physical media
Lol good luck on your new channel where you qualify the hours of labor involved
My copy just came in today and it looks great. It's such an improvement over the Blu-ray. The HDR really adds a nice boost to the film. And no, I don't have an OLED TV or a super high-end setup.
I’m glad you liked it. Everyone has their own preferences - enjoy it then!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, albeit a wrong one.
Brutal!!!
Thanks for the info, I was going to buy it on principle, but this changed my mind.
Appreciate your hard work, Jeff.
Damn, was really looking forward to getting this on 4k, guess I am pass and wait for a sale when its $10.
$10 at best buy
With a movie that was edited in 2K at that time period, it's usually not as simple as just scanning 35mm film to make one 4K master (so this could be an issue of cost for the studio). At that point, most Hollywood movies were having their whole movie edited on the computer (whether it was simple color grading of the film scan, splicing cuts together, or also compositing visual effects). While Tarantino is known for wanting to do practical effects in front of camera, I see that Maya is listed for 3D animation software used. Motion picture DIs are not 1080p. Instead they are DCI (full 2048 lines at different aspects) and usually at least 10bit HDR color space. This is why there's still a potential for the 4K format to still see improvements with movies listed with a 2K DI (with a good upscaling and taking advantage of the studio's original color space). For watching 4K movies, I've spent some time getting proper calibration with my OLED....and depending on my environment, or movie, may bump the brightness down or up a couple units to find the best threshold for black.
In this case though, IMDB says there is a 35mm negative. So it exists if they wanted to start from scratch. But as you said, very expensive. However, upscaling it wouldn’t be that expensive - so they shouldn’t charge a full price if they cut the corners.
@@JeffRauseo That just means 35mm film cameras were used for filming scenes. It says the studio source was 2K DI. By that era, it was standard that movies were scanned and then edited on the computer. What complicates things further is that after that 2K DI, studios would also then print those to film for theater distribution. Really, the only way you can be certain everything was "done on film" was movies before the 2000s: where things were edited and composited optically on film.
@@dsr0116 I’m just holding out hope that it exists somewhere and is preserved. It deserves better
@@JeffRauseo Well Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were done on film throughout the whole process. I see Django is listed as 4K DI (that probably was all composites from film scans). It was possible in 2009 to do 4K DIs if there weren't a lot of layers to composite (Ridley Scott did a 4K DI for Blade Runner Final Cut). It looks like from a tech spec, this is the Tarantino title that would need the most expense for full 4K source (edit, also see Kill Bill and Death Proof are listed as 2K DI source as well: though Death Proof was purposely made to look like degraded film).
@@JeffRauseo Yeah i think you underestimate how much work it would take to create whole new DIs, especially with effects laden films. It's not just about scanning the negatives like with older films. The effects would have to be re-rendered (very expensive) or just upscaled and in that case they would stand out massively or worse, show obvious aliasing. 2k DIs are still 1.5x the detail of standard blu-rays so they do still benefit from the 4k format, they just vary in quality as all blu-rays do.
Brutal review; thanks for the heads up!
Picked this up today for £10, and I’m happy I didn’t pay any more. Very subtle upgrade for me, and definitely leaning towards your view on this release.
Did your copy have green subs or the original yellow from the blu? The new green ones are horrible, unreadable in some scenes.
Great videos. I find myself often to this channel before deciding to upgrade. One suggestion I have to really help the audience:
A Quick mention of the equipment you're using, TV, projector, audio equipment, etc..
I think 1-2 minutes at the start of each review would be super helpful. These films, especially 4k, can vary greatly depending on your equipment and even room setting/lighting conditions.
Appreciate the content!
Thanks for the heads up!
Just watched it, for me personally, this 4K version is much better on my OLED tv then the previous Bluray, shadow details, black levels, sharpness of the picture is more less the same , but overall, much better then BD
I did get one of those cards for this movie in an Arrow release a while back. Hopefully they’ll do it justice in the near future. It damn sure deserves it!!
Great video 👏👏👏 keep up the good work 💪💪
I have seen it and the HDR in this one is strong and splendid. I can compare the video quality to Dunkirk 4K. I was preparing myself to be disappointed because of the bad reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. What are these reviewers seeing? Their TV or their eyes must be broken.
Dude his review was great! Thanks for looking out for our wallets man!!
I was hesitant to buy this disc upon this review. I received it today. It looks great.
Yeah I bought it today and watched it, I thought it looked fantastic. Obviously the HDR looked slightly blown out but to me it looked like it was the intention. But the grain and detail looked absolutely incredible.
I’m not cancelling my preorder. I’ve read other reviews stating a totally different review. I’ll wait until my eyes see it on my tv.
Let us know how does it look please!
@@luisgalarza4397 will do!
Thanks for your honest reviews!
Thanks for the honesty. Proof that just because it says 4K doesn't mean you should replace a perfectly fine disc you already own.
Thanks for another great review even though it's a disappointing outcome. This is the second "bad" review having just watched Elliot's review of the 4k of The Thing where there appears to be a freezing issue of the disc at 95 minutes of the UK release. I'll be checking my copy sometime this month.
Ouch! That sucks for The Thing. Eliot is great though! I can’t ever get to all the UK releases and things over the pond so I rely on him for my info on those titles!
Thanks for the review - I was about to buy it. Already have the BD
Jeff, I think something went wrong here. I love watching your reviews, and I tend to generally agree with what you say. On my TV (TCL 6-series) with a Panasonic UB-9000 it seems quite bright. Color saturation is quite good and shadow detail is great. I have my TV set on darkest settings and I didn't notice any overly dark issues here. No, my TV is not professionally calibrated, as I plan on upgrading to OLED next year. I hope you decide to give it a second chance, and maybe check your settings. I don't remember what your player is, but on the Panasonic players you can adjust the HDR settings. I'm not sure. But for those really wondering if it's a bad scan or not, I don't believe it is. More testing on my end is required to A/B the blu. I just got it and skipped through a few scenes. Much love my man.
I have a Reavon player. But it was just my opinion, I wasn’t a fan!
Bobby, I agree. I have a UB-820 (step down from yours). I would HIGHLY recommend a Sony Bravia for your next tv. I went to have it calibrated and the tech tried and said that out of the box the pic was so good that any calibration was negligible. The technician told Best Buy to give me my $250 back!
@@chrisholmes4037 I'm definitely keeping an eye on the new qd-oled they just announced. I'm hoping to upgrade in the next 2 years or so depending on the pricing.
Thanks for the heads up, mate. This is my favourite Tarantino film, so I was planning to buy this when it released. Now I guess I'll be waiting to see if they do a new disc for it down the line with a 4K Intermidiate.
Doubt it. There’s so many movies that need a 4k transfer especially like kill bill. Hopefully he releases the whole bloody affair in 4k as a special edition but I highly doubt it. I feel like once a movie gets released in 4k,good or bad that’s all your going to get unfortunately. Ik there’s some 4k Blu-ray movies with bad transfers that people talk about a lot but still hasn’t been fixed
@@dominicarroyo6269 It's the people who buy 55" TCL "4K" tvs that are a problem too. With a bad TV they won't ever be able to tell the difference. Sadly
The film was originally finished in a 2K digital intermediate before release to theatres. Therefore there is no higher resolution version to scan. The 35mm negatives would be before the film’s editing, visual effects, colour-grading, etc had been done. It’s not like an older film where you can scan a 35mm version of the finished film.
@@unibrowser1 yea that’s true. I don’t really have a problem to much with a 2K upscale like most people do. I’d rather have that then a 4k movie with low quality scenes that somehow got skipped over during the making of the transfer
They did release a second 4K of Justice League, albeit two different cuts of the movie, and there are rumors that a new 4K of Terminator 2 is in the works. Considering the last terrible Tarantino release was criticized by Tarantino and then completely redone by him (Reservoir Dogs), I can see this getting a new release soon. No way in hell he approved of this.
I bought the blu ray a while back to watch the film. Freakin loved the movie, Tarantino did not dissapoint. I like the brutal honesty in this review and some resurance in buying the blu ray
The bluray looks like the exact one from the Tarantino XX bluray box set.
Psyched to hear you review Guns of Navarone and Hunt for Red October in 4K
Don’t wanna be a dick but you said something similar about the Goonies in 4K and tbh I thought it looked ridiculously good
The blu ray is about the same price as the 4k I might as well get the 4K since I've never owned the movie before
And the Blu-ray inside the 4K is the same older (but far superior) disc. My guess is that the DC is the new version, which isn’t saying much.
Thanks for another excellent, detailed and honest review. I am sorely disappointed that they did not rescan the movie in true 4K from the original negative. I have also seen some other early reviews who have hit on a lot of the same complaints. I have canceled my pre-order. I am very disappointed with Universal in this case.
The movie has a 2K DI which means all effects are in 2K for this to be a true 4K they would have to rescan the negative and redo all the effect in 4K. So it’s not just as easy as rescanning the negative.
@@gusamoretti8520 Actually they could rescan all of the footage not containing CGI in 4K and then upsample the CGI stuff from 2K to 4K. It would take a bit of time but it could be done.
That sounds like the CGI would stand out like a sore thumb.
Thanks for being honest.
How did the HDR10+ presentation look?
Dam… guess that money will go to Halloween 3 4K lol
Tarantino was reluctant to even support Blu-Rays, so it's not surprising that he is not approving or getting involved in his movies' 4K releases. It's probably the reason why there wasn't a proper 4K scan done, because he likely has the rights to the negatives and won't allow it. He would rather let the studio put out a piss poor 4K version, or the bane of his existence - on streaming and let the superior version remain on the older physical format. I was hoping that this would be worth the wait. I will still pick it up, because it still has the Blu-Ray and the new artwork is pretty dope.
If he’s against streaming you would think he would support the most current and up to date form of physical media.
@@BB-ed4om Some people are just reluctant to stay up to date. I kind He probably still has a tube TV with a VCR or maybe even a DVD player. He is old school and it shows with all the references he makes in his movies.
They need to go back and re-release Hancock in 4k with its extended edition. The Pineapple Express, too. So disappointing that so many early titles were theatrical-only.
Just got my copy and all I can say is Ja, Ja, Ja! So glad that I didn’t cancel my preorder! Black levels are good with no signs of crushing; you can still see detail in darker areas. HDR looks good although at times slightly bright but still looks very good. Color grading looks better than my Blu-ray copy.
Film grain is also handled nicely on the 4K; minimal grain but it still feels like you’re watching film. No apparent DNR has been used. Definitely happy that I bought it! Can’t wait to watch it again on my friends 4K proctor and see how it looks on it. Equipment : Panny UB420 and Hisense 58” 58R6E3 TV.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Pre ordered I’ll make my own mind up 👍
You are correct about the bitrate. Bitrate certainly isn't the whole story, but it's obvious that it was a 2K upscale when you have a bitrate around 30-40mbps. Certain 1080p titles hit 30ish. Truly sad for such a great film.
It's reviews like this that i find helpful.
Thank You.
So many bad discs and you can't tell until after you buy it.
Thanks again, i will be hanging on to my blue ray of this movie.
Thank you for your honesty
Do u know when we might get to see Tarantino's other film like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill on 4k?
Considering PF through the Kill Bill movies are entirely with Miramax, that puts them in Paramount’s hands, and it should be soon. Reservoir Dogs is either with Paramount through Miramax or it’s with Lionsgate.
The only saving grace of the old Blu-rays is that they still hold up well.
Nice work!
Not being odd, what Tv do you review these on?? dvd quality resolution!!! No chance
This was my first 4k. Was clueless on bad transfers. Now i do research befor buying. Thanks!
Great vid and recommendation. Hopefully the Carlitos Way 4K release is better!
Btw that packaging isn't new, it's the same one for UK release. Tells you just how little effort Universal put into this. Great review thanks for letting us know.
^this.
So they upscaled the bluray transfer instead of scanning the 35 mm film?
Hateful 8 on 4K is what I’m waiting for 😜
Jeff, I usually agree with your assessments but I have to say, I experienced none of the issues you described. This disc looked just fine. I have a Pioneer UDP-LX500 and Sony XBR75X900E. Maybe you have a bad disc or settings changed?
Fair enough - and I appreciate you not just commenting a hate-filled rant about it lol. You seem like a civil person - hard to find these days!
I don’t know what it was, but I’ve since viewed it again and I just don’t like the 4K. It looked washed out, duller, just less impressive to me.
Love the honesty. Thank you once again!
Great honest review, Jeff! I had this on preorder as it’s one of my favourite Tarantino films but cancelled it after seeing this review. Arrow have teased a release of Inglorious Basterds for the past few years with an artcard included with certain Arrow Video titles so it’s highly likely they’ll be doing a new restoration, possibly with Tarantino’s involvement too! He’s mentioned before how he’s a fan of Arrow’s streaming service so all of the signs point to a potential great release in the near future, fingers crossed!
Hey Leon! Hope ya well
Well, then that’s maybe the reason Universal put out this one quickly. Hoping their 4K would still sell some before Arrow releases a restored version.
This is my favorite Tarantino movie. I'm crushed that this release is so half-assed. Preorder cancelled. Thank you for your honesty.
I like HDR 10+ a lot myself I have some DC 4k with it.
Preciate the honesty! Yeah that's a bummer
At 1:10, what website do you find these specs?
Yea great review. But unlike most people I like to have my own opinion. I’m a huge fan of this movie and I’m gonna pick it up regardless.
Surprising since I feel Tarantino would be heavily involved with it's home presentation!!
I hope Arrow, Kino, Criterion, or Shout does a release of this one day.
Maybe they'll do a true 4K scan instead of this rushed garbage.
@@Zachary_Dale Yeah, I heard the new Transfer for Halloween is an improvement! It's Shout I believe.
He still has final approval for Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, and Kill Bill, and maybe Reservoir Dogs as well. Unsure about everything from Inglorious Basterds onwards. This 4K and the old Reservoir Dogs DVD are the only two fuckups in the Tarantino home video department. In the old DVD’s case it was redone with Tarantino completely in control only four years later. Tarantino will get involved in this mess guaranteed.
Very grateful you made us aware of this! I was really looking forward to this release, but with a heavy heart, I've cancelled my pre-order of the Zavvi exclusive. You've saved me some money though (thank you!). It really sucks that they couldn't be bothered to take the time to give it a solid 4K treatment. Thanks again for your insight as always!
Or make up your own mind, instead of relying on some dude with clear display issues.
thank you
The settings on your player or display must be messed up. I bet you're trying to force fake DV instead of using HDR10. My 4K copy on my LG CX looks way better than the Blu-ray. I'm not seeing anything that you're describing so it's gotta be a setting or display issue on your side. What equipment are you using?
I’m using a Reavon 4K player. It doesn’t force DV on anything. It’s the highest end player on the market right now. I just didn’t like this disc.
@@JeffRauseo there must be some other issue with your setup or you got a bad disc (mine is the BB Steelbook FWIW) then because it looks 10x better than my Blu-ray copy. The scene in the pub with Shosanna and Zoller in particular looked much brighter and more crisp in 4K. You could see plenty of additional detail in their faces compared to the Blu-ray
I sense a tv calibration issue as oleds are pretty much spot on out the box.
Also I wouldn’t say Raevon is the highest end player right now.. it runs on the same chipset and the Oppo 203, Cambridge Audio and Pioneer players. Panasonics use their own chipset and both but both chipsets are equally as good.
What about the change of colour for the subtitles? Changed from yellow to green which now blend in some scenes!
@@g-m-b6672 what tv do you have ?
It’s just unfortunate that it happens but this is why I am glad that people review these new remasters because I would have been very upset to get this on 4K and it look like shit but it does happen every once in a while but you can tell the difference when someone actually puts the work in and when they don’t
Man, what a let down! I'll be keeping my standard Blu-ray. Thanks for the review!
On caps a holic the UHD is brighter?
That's a great honest review Jeff. It seems Universal are testing the water. But what a waste of money. I don't actually own the film yet, I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan and I still haven't seen this film all the way through. I will be holding out for a proper 4K release, as I don't want to buy it on BD for someone to then do a full on restoration.
Does your player have multiple HDR settings? Another channel I watch, John from Movie Collector has a Panasonic player which has multiple HDR settings which he adjusts on some titles he feels are too dark or over blown. Of course we should have to make adjustments as there should be one industry standard.
I have read many great reviews of this… interesting.
Many?
Well I'm not going to spare hate here or unsub. I just think the 4k is better than the blu ray. Better colors and sharpness. And is not dark. I have 2 Sony tvs and looks great. I even connected my computer to the 4k TV and played the disc and looked the same. I think you're scaring a little the buyers, your opinion is extremist. Is definitely an improvement, even for a 2k master.
Man I'm sad. Was looking forward to upgrading
Thanks for the review man. Money saved. Interested to see what you think of the new Universal Monsters 4k set....actually holding off till you review it.
I can’t wait to see those in 4K!
Could we get a review for the Cornetto trilogy? There aren't many reviews about there 4K versions
Just what I expected to hear!
Didn’t arrow have plans to do a 4k release too?
I’ll stick to the Blu-Ray then. Thanks for the video.
Bummer to hear. Thank you for the review.
Thank you for your honest reviews. I was looking forward to this one. Maybe one day they will do it with the film stock instead.
They have an 8k scan of the hateful eight so hopefully they use that and make it a fully maxed out 4K release, I’m talking vision, atmos, HDR and everything. Still can’t believe they didn’t get a 4K scan of the original 35mm print. What idiots
Dno I feel like its the HDR (dolby vision atmos etc) that really make the difference between 1080p bluray and "4k"
Dolby atmos has what to do with hdr? Sounds like you’re just parroting something you read or heard somewhere. If you have a 43” 4K tv with cheap components and inadequate software, the difference can be minimal. But sometimes it’s very noticeable. Not necessarily in sharpness of detail but more so in realistic looking textures and close ups that look like the person is right there in front of you. I own several 4K movies that don’t have hdr at all but they are still big upgrades, especially from earlier blu ray releases.
@@BB-ed4om hdr makes a huge difference. I watch movies on an LG oled 65 inch and the difference between a non hdr 4k movie and a 4k hdr is huge.
The image quality is definitely better than what this guy claims. Close-ups betray Brad Pitt's age like never before.
And I had just watched Oppenheimer.
My setup: LG Oled C1 48 inches + Panasonic UB9000
I dont have the original blu ray so im still gonna buy it. Will prob wait for a price drop tho.
Bummer, man. Thanks for the review.
Wasn't Arrow Video supposed to remaster this? I heared about it in late 2020... what the fuck happened?
Maybe they lost the rights or Universal decided to release theirs instead.
Also, Arrow wasn't doing 4k back in 2020. They might have cancelled when Universal decided to make a UHD release.
I believe Arrow may have lost the rights. There were rumors they were going to remaster this. Maybe Universal took it back
@@Zachary_Dale Arrow's 1st film for 4K was in Aug 7th, 2020 "Pitch Black" I heard about their remaster of Inglorious Basterds after its release.
Hopefully they'll redo this one. I hope they don't mess up Django 😩
Looks great with panasonic tx55gz960e oled and panasonic dp-ub820 4k player. I think HDR10+ is the THING in this updated release. Hope u see this great movie some day whit HDR10+, oppinion could be change.
Dolby Vision rerelease
What a pity. Your honesty is appreciated. Hopefully now Tarantino will have more involvement and input into future 4K masters of his films.
I thought arrow were putting this out? They had a postcard of it in some of their releases last year
Interesting, like with your F9 review, you were pretty down on this while most other reviewers have better things to say about it so far. Going to wait for other reviews to roll in to see exactly how this is landing. I trust your opinion, I just have seen a slight disconnect recently with some reviews. I like to get an overall sense of if its better or not and I cant just go off of one review.
Personally, I see WAY too many positive reviews. And I don’t mean that as a dig at anyone. But Even bad discs get 3.5/5. That’s just not realistic and it doesn’t make sense on a scale of 1-5 to have a “bad” disc be a 3.5. It’s really like a scale of 3-5
@@JeffRauseo completely agree I feel like everything gets a good review these days
@@JeffRauseo You're not wrong. I dont really have a lot more to say on it except what I've been seeing. That said, I still watch your videos and enjoy them. Just some friendly banter about some observations.
Some early reviews of discs like Man of Steel were pretty bad, and I watched it recently and it was quite good to me. So its hard to trust the whole thing sometimes.
@@SICmaggot543 hey no offense taken here! I’ll say this every time, but certainly form your own opinions. Nothing is “fact” in a review like this.
@@iangray1980 or maybe he has higher standards then other reviewers?
Thank you for saving me the money bro
A big fan of this channel. You have saved me so much money in recent weeks on whether it is worth upgrading certain titles to 4K (The Thing being the main example)
I once read that arrow was supposed to put out this release. Any truth to that?
Damn, didn’t see this coming. Bummer.
