#MovieReview - Zábava
The slipcover looks so good I honestly thought you were holding a steelbook until you unboxed the package. Great review! I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow.
I hope Pulp Fiction is done "proper" in 4k as well. That movie is in my top 5 of all time, I can't wait for December 6th.
What's with the proper?
@@travisspazz1624 Every now and then the 4k version is a downgrade from the blu-ray, take a look at Heat.
@@Bigtymer781 wha? Don't agree with that. I think Heat looks great!
Can assure you Pulp Fiction looks just as good as this!
I live in Europe and can assure you it looks fantastic!
Wow, it does look a hell of a lot better even from these screenshots. It's still possibly my favourite Tarantino film so I'll certainly be upgrading this.
honestly don't know how any tarantino movie isn't released as a top 4k release, literally sounds like a format tarantino would think could best represent his work in home media. we need to get more directors interested in making these releases so we have people from the inside pushing it
Hes said hes not in to it, he was still using vhs to edit and do stuff just a few years ago, hes mentioned it a few times in interviews
Tarantino has a podcast about watching films on VHS. Apparently he’s hugely nostalgic about that format.
He doesn't like the idea of home video looking 'as good/better' than how it looks in a cinema. He likes and encourages the imperfections. He mentioned on his podcast (video archives) that he wanted to start a bluray label that ONLY released films as 'unrestored', with no colour grading or removal of scratches/dust etc. I think he's in the minority of people that would prefer that over a clean image.
@@URBONED A straight up high-res scan of film negatives without any sort of DNR could probably look pretty good, so I can appreciate that approach. If Tarantino's goal really is to make home video "look bad," then I obviously think that's a silly approach. But some of the discs released today are so heavily processed to the point where they no longer have a natural-looking image. The 4K editions of The Lord of the Rings are great examples of how digital processing has gone way too far and is outright destroying the original image.
I think the best approach lies somewhere in between and these new releases of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs seem to strike that balance pretty good. They are very sharp and retain their filmic look.
@@URBONED That seems a little unfair on his part. If this is how he feels, I suppose I could understand it for when a movie is new still in theaters, but 20-year-old movies that the only way to watch is at home? I mean, Reservoir Dogs came out before I was even born, why should I be punished for not being old?
Reservoir Dogs was the first Blu-ray I bought when I made the leap from DVD...I remember being blown away at the time.
This release looks incredible judging by the screenshots. Will upgrade!
To the best of my knowledge, DTS HD HR is essentially the same lossy compression algorithm used in standard DTS audio, but with support for higher bitrates, and more importantly, up to 7.1 instead of 5.1. The old Reservoir Dogs HR track is 6.1, for example.
Now I know I'll be excited for this! Massive upgrade over the two previous releases that I owned on DVD and Blu-ray. It finally comes alive for 4K!
Your channel is like a buying guide for us collectors that don't want to upgrade our entire blu ray collection. Thanks. It's really a great service.
oh, thank god, cause I had to pre-order that steelbook cause the design is just too good, sooo relieved this is an improved presentation, I can't wait to check it out now.
Thank you for your videos, they are a great guide for what to buy and what not. Really helpful you’re doing more side by side screenshots compared to your older videos.
Love the channel. Stumbled upon it recently. Would love to see more stills/b-roll if possible during reviews.
Reservoir Dogs is on my list of shame (classics I haven’t seen). Sounds like it’s time to pick it up! Also, 99k!!! Let’s goooo! 🎉
Nice guy Eddie is very disappointed in you...
Got the steelbook coming in the mail tomorrow. So hyped!
Grabbed the steelbook the minute it went up for preorder it’s one of my all time favorite films. Also my personal favorite QT film that he’s ever done and that’s saying something when you’ve got pulp fiction in his repertoire.
Great review
Reservoir Dogs was the first QT film I saw in the movie theater. Fall of 1992. I saw it again, in the theater, February or March of 1993 when I was at college in Pittsburgh. By that time, I was a huge QT fan having run out and purchased his screenplays for True Romance (a year before the film came out) and Dogs. I loved Dogs so much I played the soundtrack over and over again on my college radio show. I was a QT fan from the very, very beginning. I introduced all my friends to QT and have quite doggedly followed his career for the last 30 years. This 4K sounds like "a must have" for any Tarantino fan!
Can't wait BAND OF BROTHERS IN 8K
With Pulp Fiction now on 4K - my dream list is shorter by one. Still need Friday and Excalibur.
So happy for this one! I think I'll wait for the price to drop but this is actually my favourite movie, so it's kind of christmas for me to see this get such an upgrade in home release. Good review as always Jeff, keep it up!
I received this a few days ago. Upon loading it up I nearly fell on the floor. It’s not only a massive improvement but one of the best 4k catalogue titles I have seen and believe me, I have them all. Pause the picture and have a close look at the faces. It’s insane. It has a very filmic look yet grain seems minimal which ups the clarity even when you are close to your screen (mines a 65 inch Oled). I recently had family and friends over for a movie night watching the Reservoir Dogs Blu Ray, I am tempted to hold it again! 😅
Nope, the grain removal removed a lot of detail that's why they made it darker like modern stuff
@@vb8428 You are probably right but to my ageing eyes the picture is much better than my blu ray. I find grain on the older films makes them fantastically cinematic, Spartacus, Lawrence of Arabia, Ten Commandments, and a recent addition « Get Carter »
Great beard dude! I mean, great review :)
Got the Best Buy Steelbook of this in earlier today, so I'm super happy to hear this is a better 4k transfer than Inglorious Basterds. Thanks for the review, excited to check this one out!
Don't mind me just waiting for that Dusk till Dawn 4k release... I love reservoir dogs, it's nice to see Terentino's films getting some much deserved love. I hope to see more soon. I mean, even both Kill Bill movies in 4k would be amazing...
I'm glad I waited. I picked it up for $13. I had recently watched the blu ray and thought to myself how this is clearly from the same master file as the original DVD release. Then when black Friday sales came around I started watching CZcams videos and stumbled on this review confirming my suspicions about the earlier blu ray edition. Very nice review. I'm excited to rewatch the film so close to having just seen the old version.
If anyone is wondering about Special Features, all of the good ones were left on the 2 disc DVD.
Thanks! Picking up the SteelBook tomorrow at Best Buy.
Even on a 27" monitor the difference is insane. Definitely gonna be getting this one
Already ordered, thanks Jeff
This is great. Thank you. I also like the slip cover.
Thanks. I have preordered the Limited Edition Steelbook version.
Whoa! I can't wait to see this on my TV. Very cool.
Got this. Blown away with how good it looks
I recently got this at Target on Black Friday and when I first popped it in I was amazed from the very first diner scene. Simply stunning transfer that keeps the film's integrity grain fully in tact meanwhile cleaning up its sharpness to the max. But to be honest I wasn't thrilled with the audio, and not sure if it's my Samsung sound bar and subwoofer but felt like I couldn't set the volume high enough for comfortable listening. The more gun shooting scenes didn't have much "oomph" in terms of bass, but I've heard that sound can be VERY picky depending on what you're playing on. I tried to adjust my 4k player sound settings but it didn't help much. Not sure what I needed to do to just make this sound LOUD enough. Pretty frustrating and have been looking for help online but couldn't find much.
So great to know cuz it was another one I wasn't sure about! Sounds great I will definitely be getting it
99K, so close!
Watching this 4k was my first watch of this film on higher end audio equipment. I never heard Mr. Pink talking to the cops outside after running off with the diamonds at the end. Was this me just focusing too much on the on screen dialog, or the audio quality of older discs and the equipment i had at the time- maybe both?
Another perfect review jeff🎉
Here in the U.K,I’ve ordered the steelbook for this title and pulp fiction. I’ve had them on DVD and Blu ray.
Finally picked this up and about to watch. Have the BD release already.
My copy is in the mail. Finally! Reservoir Dogs looks like FILM.
I was sold on that first screen comparison
The HDDVD looked better than the Blu-ray. But this sounds like it will be much better. I look forward to picking this up.
Damn I feel special! My Best Buy steelbook book was delivered today on the 14th 😁
Thanks for review
Wish they would release it in Canada. Can import for $57.99 though. I really miss the heyday, when every major store had a whole section of Blu-rays and every title available in the USA was also available in Canada.
Great to see they finally upgraded the previous release! Also making it a total no-brainer to upgrade. I hope Lionsgate and others keep doing this!
Don't get rid of your 10th Anniversary DVD edition. It has waaaaay more special features; it even has a running commentary on the 2nd disc.
I planned on keeping mine just because I have the Best Buy limited edition Mr. Pink slipcover, but that's good to know.
Did anybody get the steelbook?? I pre-ordered the steelbook and it's currently my favorite steelbook. It looks even better in person. Bravo to whoever created the artwork. 🤙
this looks great!!
WHAT are your best 4K Black & white movies collections ?
Just got a copy, really impressed
I love Tom Segura reviewing 4Ks.
Nice, can't wait for this.
Is the included blu ray the original or a downscale from the 4K?
awesome 4k of a masterpiece!
Thanks for the update. Question is the Blu Ray Version in this package an upgrade too or just the 4k? You didn’t mention tne Blu ray other than the special features being imported over. Also, Lions Gate is disappointing in their selection of the 4K Blu Ray case of the eco recycle holes in the case. They are basically the only video company that still uses the cheap junky cases. Paramount uses the good solid ones on their 4k releases, but the recycled junk on Blu Ray releases like “Top Gun:Maverick”.
Just wow this is why I get excited for 4K
I'm tempted to import this, as here in the UK it looks like we're only getting a steelbook version which costs £35 (about $41). Strangely we are getting a standard version of Pulp Fiction on 4k though.
Do you know if the Blu-Ray included is from the new transfer? I am a 4K guy but for those who are still doing Blu-Ray, this could be a great way to upgrade their copy while continuing to support physical media and the 4K format before they jump on board. My brother and I had that Blu-Ray for YEARS and it was so bad that it looked even worse when I played it on my new, larger TV. Cannot wait for this to come in!
Yes the Blu-ray is remastered as well
@@movieswithdaniel342 Appreciate it!
I ordered this from Amazon a couple of days ago and was supposed to be delivered today. Now they've pushed the delivery until late December?!? Anybody else experiencing this? I want this movie!
I grew up watching this stuff on beaten up VHS tapes so the dvds and onward are all upgrades to me.
Ironically that's how Tarantino would prefer you watch it!
Picked up the steelbook at BestBuy today.
What for digital codes are in some blu rays edition?
Can't wait to get my 4k copy. I didn't like the steelbook so I got the slipcover. Coming in today from target. Target is 14.99 base price so I preorderd it from them.
Is there a non-steel book version? I can't seem to get Amazon to list it straight.
I can’t find anywhere to buy this in Canada, I know it releases tomorrow but there’s not even anywhere to pre order in Canada, I cannot wait to get it tho!
I’m so excited for jt
The Blu-ray was decent for 2007, but definitely a dated transfer. There were worse Lionsgate releases during that time. Young Guns struck me as one of the worst of the lot for transfers. Thankfully, this looks like a Tarantino film (not counting True Romance) done right for 4K. It's about time!
glad I ordered the uk version and one of my favourite classic movies by Quentin Tarantino
Does the blu ray version of this have a new scan on it as well? Or just the 4K disc?
I don't think you cover this in the video: is the standard (1080K) Blu Ray included in the pack identical to the old Blu Ray? Or is it a new transfer from 4K (like the Space Odyssey 4K or the Shining 4K).
Got mine ordered for a good price. But beware amazon says no delivery until december
So glad it’s a good transfer and gives me high hopes for the release of Pulp Fiction.
Wait till you see Pulp Fiction. Looks fantastic! My release of the year!
Do you have 4k box set tazan from 1930 to 1960's ?
That's a great scan!
Finally? What other old movies have been released on 4k?
It's so awesome that you guys in US gets a digital code with your physical purchase. If you physical collectors really want to fight to keep physical alive, you should fight for digital codes with a physical purchase for the rest of the world. Today, it's only US, Canada and Australia. So the rest of the world has to choose, digital or physical. And for many digital wins, as only a few would purchase both.
I just got the new 4K version that has the Cop’s ear as a slipcase! Unfortunately it basically has none of the special features for some reason, which is a real shame! Not sure what happened
Is the Mondo steelbook Blu Ray as bad as the Blu Ray mentioned in the video?
Hey Jeff! I’m a new 4k collector and I’m looking to get the most out of the discs. I have everything needed to obtain the best visuals, but I’m lacking on the audio. I understand Dolby atmos and everything but my dad does not want to upgrade to it as it’s very expensive. I was wondering if maybe you could tell me about audio on these discs and why Dolby atmos is worth it, I’m just to trying to convince him. Thank you so much!
What's your current setup? You could always start with basic 2.1 setup with a receiver and add to it over time until you have full surround/atmos
Oh ya !!!
Looks and sounds great, best the movie has ever looked. Highly recommend
Any word on the Tombstone 4K release?
I wish you would review SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER ASAP!
Hey Jeff, you know of any UHD player that can play HDR10+ as well as Dolby Vision an Dolby ATMOS? i got my TV and receiver picked out, but I'm still looking for a player that can tackle all that without any lags.
I’ve brought 2 copies and both have an audio issue at 1:01:40 where you can’t hear anything when Orange repeats his name with Dolby TrueHD 5.1
Looks to be a problem with my Sony player. On my old Panasonic blu ray player it works fine
Good to hear this was a great transfer. Was kinda worried how it was gonna turn up. Now we just need DJANGO and Kill bill vol 1 & 2
Really glad to see this being nicely warmed up, instead of that vile sickly teal green that is added to everything now
Is the accompanying Blu ray a new transfer as well or is it just the 15 year old disc with new artwork? Sometimes companies will spruce up the accompanying Blu ray with a new transfer: Unbreakable, The original Star Trek movies, The Back to the Future Trilogy, ect. I was just curious.
The included Blu-ray does in fact have the new remaster.
thanks! I lieterally bought it because of this Video. I had owned the bluray for about 10 years, and I had forgotten about how bad the quality was
Inglorious Bastards still a no go? I'm about to upgrade my Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs movies but wondered if my Inglorious Bastards Blu Ray was still a better option. After all these I can't wait for the Kill Bill upgrades and with Jackie Brown and Django Unchained ❤️❤️❤️
Reservoir Dogs in 4K - The resolution is so good you can practically see the movies he borrowed (see: stole) the plot from. Ringo Lam's "City on Fire" and Joseph Sargent's "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" are the two obvious movies.
Reservoir Dogs is the second best Tarantino movie close to Pulp Fiction! Glad they finally remastered the movie better in HD. Especially when the early Blu Rays weren’t that good, they felt like hi def VHS transfer that was a failed HD format from the early 2000s!
Only 1000 to go!
Does anybody know if the blu-ray that comes with the set is from this new 4K master or just a repress of the 15th anniversary edition?
Since nobody has responded, according to The Digital Bits, the blu-ray that comes with this set is transferred from the new 4K master.
13 dollars now. Yes please!
How does this compare to the Best Buy exclusive? It seems to be harder to find now and is more expensive.
Saving private Ryan in 8K can't wait !
Im stuck with the standard blu ray as i dont have a 4k player. But most of the time i cant tell the difference between 1080p and 4k anyway.
You will.
Ouch. 😅
So now you get to see someone get his ear cut off in 4K? Wow. Sounds exciting.
