Combine the drones with the camera and you could have scout/spying drones/security cameras
A "telescopic piston" able to push a single block up to 12 blocks away. If another block is in its path it stops pushing the block.
Slime paste able to be placed on blocks like glue. Allows blocks to be stuck to each other and pushed with pistons. Or it can be used with redstone/repeaters/comparators to place them on the sides or bottoms of blocks.
A hopper with a built in item filter
A hopper that has 5 different outlets (optional to add a built in filter)
A redstone laser an unmovable block breaker similar in appearance to the back end of an observer with a beacon beam coming out. It can be placed facing any direction and break blocks at the speed of an unenchanted diamond pickaxe for up to 32 blocks. It does not destroy blocks it mines them.
What if you could use a smaller dragon as a flying mount?
a riding flying mount. We have horses, lamas, and pigs (with a carrot). Why not a flying mount. Not saying the dragon either.
Sure, I'll leave you the idea for a mod that I was too lazy to make mysel--I mean, that you should totally show off :D What If Minecraft... had magic runes? To extend the magic of the potion and enchantment systems, you could get an item that lets you draw runes on block faces (which are basically entities that work similarly to paintings and item frames, but with transparent textures), and they'd imbue the block with certain properties. (6 faces means up to 6 runes per block). Breaking the block destroys the runes on it, but pushing it with pistons simply moves the runes with it. Different runes would require different "inscription" chalk/tools/whatever_theme_item, to balance better abilities with harder recipes.
Some random ideas for such runes:
- Rune of Resistance: Gives the block increased blast resistance, useful for TNT or Wither based farms, or just for building in the Nether where Ghasts are.
- Rune of Unlifting: Prevent Endermen from picking the block up (though I guess with 1.13's enderman_holdable tag, that's less useful, but an in-game way could appeal to some people). Name definitely subject to change.
- Rune of Inertia: Prevent the block from being moved by pistons/slime blocks, to make prettier redstone devices without needing tile entities or obsidian to block slime movement
- Rune of Weight: Causes the block to act like sand and other gravity blocks, falling if its support breaks. The rune will stay attached to the falling block entity and the block it becomes when it lands, and will be destroyed if the falling block it's attached to drops in item form.
- Rune of Heat: Makes the block act like magma, burning mobs that walk on it. Just for better-looking damaging blocks.
- Rune of Springs: Makes the block bouncy like slime blocks, but not sticky when moved.
- Rune of Enforcement: As long as the block remains unbroken, the chunk it's in remains loaded at all times. (Seriously, chunk loading should be in vanilla without complex hopper stitching. Anyone who abuses it enough to lag the game should carry all the responsibility of that, not Mojang. I want chunk loaders for my farms :( )
- Rune of Air: When the block is walked on by a mob or player who is underwater, their air replenishes instantly. No more expensive water breathing potions or ugly air pockets needed in your underwater base, just step on the ground and you're good to go! (Oh, yeah, and water shouldn't break runes, of course.)
- Rune of End Travel: If you step on the block in the Overworld, you'll be teleported to the same coordinates in the End. If you step on it in the End, you'll be teleported to the same coordinates in the Overworld. If you step on it in the Nether, you'll be teleported to (coords x 8) in the End. It's a better way to travel between the End and other dimensions than always going through a pre-generated Stronghold and flying out from the center island, especially if you want an End base. It should cost some End City material (or chorus plant material) to ensure you beat the dragon before having access to this power.
And of course there could be many more, as many as you can think of that would be useful and not too crazy to code :D
I feel like Tango might have inspired the Allay! Some of this sounds pretty similar to what the Allay is supposedly going to do.
I love how the drone design is powered by the shulker bullets! That is such a cool build on an existing Minecraft feature.

What about linking 2 or 4 together to air lift mobs? E.g. Air lifting villagers into an iron farm or a creeper into someone's afk spot. :D

I want all of these elements added to the allay, tbh. The networking of guidepoints, the whole "no two drones will go after the same item" thing, and most of all: the fact that they stay within a certain number of blocks of you. These all feel like necessary improvements to a mob that I will admit I already love a lot.

Sergi Martínez Pàmias or in the Pneumatic Craft Mod... or in the Custom Drones Mod, etc. - there are already a bunch of Mods that add Drones to Minecraft.
hermitcraft is a vanilla server; adding something like this would be a big step away from it

*This is a little thing, but adding an Eye of Ender to the recipe for Drones would be really cool, because not only would it give the Eyes of Ender more use beyond access to the End, but it'd give the Drones an even cooler and more organic look.*

This is a very advanced and well thought out mod, Tango. I sense some inspiration from Fortresscraft. Keep it up!
Attack mode: It floats around you similarly to the fetch mode and when you get attacked it swoops down and hits to similar damage of that of an iron sword, then retreats back and swoops back in a few seconds later, you would have to add hitpoints to the drone and then when it gets to 1 heart, it floats out of range of the enemy. (Whether or not it sacrifices to save the owner is your choice and whether they drop any loot such as 4 shulker shells)
I love how you took something modern and somehow made it fit pretty well with vanilla

They don't work with items since they just blow them up. Projectiles on the other hand don't get blown up and instead get launched.
Modders similar to Tango and technical redstoners like NarcolepticFrog and builders to form a brand new group would be more savory for me.

Pneumaticraft drones have all these features plus their own in game programming API, I used them to build spheres out of blocks with periodically changing textures, meaning placing the blocks in a specific order would make epic patterns which change over time.

It would also require ammo making the drone having a weakness and the rotors and body would have 20 HP per rotor and 80 on the body
You could add a “scanning canister”, this would allow the drone to fetch up to 3 specific items, to have the drone fetch these items, you would have to put the item you want fetched in the canister, the drone will recognise the item and pick it up, this would not use up an item.

This is a really great idea. One thing I would change is the speed of the drone. Since they are made with Shulker bullets, they should move at the speed of a Shulker bullet, or slower since there is more weight put on the bullets, but that's my preference.
Imagine these drones now with auto crafting, run multiple farms and long distance transport items to autocraft modules that allows you to farm virtually any craft able item

I would love to see an "attack drone" that 2ould take 1 drone, 1 bow (enchanted would work?), 4 Redstone, 2 gold ingot, and 1 diamond. The attack drone would need to be powered by arrows that you would need to refill. The damage would be slightly less of a fully charged arrow and would have a 1.5 - 2 second cooldown. The drone could have 3 features, "protect" where it would kill any entity that would come in a certain radius of the where the drone was placed. "Following sami-hostile" where the drone would follow you and attack anything that attacks you. And "following hostile" where it would follow you and attack anything in a radius of your character. An option to attack player or not would be avalibe.
How about you get drones from OpenComputers.
robot.swing() will use it's weapon, but you can also use robot.use() to shoot infront of it.

Watching this three years later and this was basically solved with the Allay.

Drone attack mode. Flies around you with a Bow or Crossbow and slowly shoots arrows at enemies around you, it wouldn't be OP because the drones would charge slower than a player but its good to have automatic fire
I think drones gotta have a thing that if you hit an mob with an special tool (like a arrow with an rope attached) the drone will pick it up and it takes it to a specific point (like the weird button) that causes it to drop it or in fetch mode it will drop it on you or it will bring it home and the new blocks need a recipe to.

Villagers for example, are more complex now, with pillagers now in the game, and a level up system for them, and water getting drowns, sunken ships, treasure maps, coral, the trident, and the thing that forces you to sleep.

If this got added to MC I would use your drones as wireless redstone by making them deliver renamed items to some device I wanted to activate.

-adding a Controller based item to allow you to control the drone themselves.
-Adding an Eye of Ender and a Glass Block into the drone will give you the ability to see what the drone see, which will take the same size of a map on your off hand, but it'll be placed on your top left screen.
- Creating a Helmet with Shulker Shells and a Slime Ball will allow you to be picked up by the drone you're controlling and the drone's you aren't controlling won't. But you'll need to make boots as well to make sure you don't die once you made your drone to stop you.
- adding inventories to the drone or a workstation to upgrade your drones will be useful. Like, that's what you'll use to add the camera on the drone, or the controller connection on it.
- adding 2 Redstone dusts, 2 iron ingots, and 2 shulker shells into the drone will give the drone the ability to be a range weapon, rockets and arrows needs to be placed on the drones themselves but only 16 arrows or rockets can be placed in it.
- upgrading the drone with an Iron block will give the drone more health and armor, but it'll make it a bit slower.
- upgrading it with a beacon, 168 iron blocks, aka 2 Stacks & 40 Blocks, an Iron ingot, and 8 more drones, it'll become a moving beacon that gives you permanent buffs. And it doesn't need it to be specifically iron blocks like how the beacons work, but the stronger the block is, the more health and armor it'll have. It'll also be bigger and slower. (For fun and a way for it to be very expensive)
There also should be a option for them to only pick up one item, ex: ores while strip mining

Combine 4 drones in the corners with a diamond in the middle to make a heavy drone that has the option to carry chests/shulker boxes and if given a bow can attack for you. But the downside is it will not be able to pick up singular items like shown in your video
its kinda interesting how minecraft did actually end up with something like this in the form of the Allay
Things I would add:
1. Hunt mode: the drone will flolw you and shoot shulcker bullets at any mob that drops food. you would have to costanly supplie it with shullker bulltes, becauseit can only have 64 at a time
2. Defend/Attack mode: same as hunt mode, but instead of attacking any mob that drops food, it would attack hostile mobs(pigmen and wolves do not count intill player hits them)

So. Cool. I love how you set the crafting cost high and did it in a way that makes sense in Minecraft. Flight points are a clever way to conserve server resources.

Make it so you can create boundaries that the drone will patrol and it will send whatever it sees to a monitor. Also make it so you can attach turrets.
Coming back to this series in 2023 just to listen to while doing dishes... hearing Tango's explanation being nearly identical to Allays
Really awesome item collection and transport drone, but I'd also love to see an attack or defense drone that uses arrows as ammunition.

why? balanced for what? it's not a competitive game.
I agree with ClockworkAvatar, Minecraft isn't competitive in most cases, (and when it is you could just ban them, although I can't think of a competitive situation where you would be capable of getting them in the first place), so as long as it's endgame, OP is good as long as it's still fun.

I think Mojang shoud make it so minecards with furnaces load chunks as the go, so they can travel long distances without the stopping when the chunks unload.
Those silly things would have a purpose again...
But drones would be way faster.
Good idea, but if you would have many furnaces in different chunks, you would have serious framerate issues. Because of all the chunks being loaded at the same time

Maybe the drones in fetch mode, after picking up an item, will check if the player or dock is still in range, and if so, will be able to pick up another stack, maxing at 3 inventory slots. plyers can also put drones in feed mode, and they will tame animals like wolfs. drones could also scare away animals like cats due to the noise. the drones could also have a filter item, where the dock (and only the dock), can be assigned an item to exclusively hunt out in fetch mode. also when on long-distance flights, they could pick up items within a range of a flight point. a new mode called hover would lock there location to only one area, and deter mobs from coming near. this is balanced by the fact that they have a limited range, and only cats, creepers, and other mobs of the like are scared away. an attack mode could be where you give the drone power, and it shoots nearby untamed hostile mobs, (or aggroed neutral mobs). the possibilities are endless, so you should also add a charging gage and the need for more fuel in shulker bullets, dragon's breath or blaze powder. a dock could also have a slot to input said fuel to charge a docked drone. following or hovering drones could run out of fuel sometimes, and fall to the ground, deactivating your defence systems. turret mode is a mix of attack and hover mode. what do you think? sorry for the wall of text.

None of the "What If" mods are play-ready. They're unpolished and unoptimized, designed only for these demonstrations and not for actual gameplay.
A drone that shoots fire arrows. Or a drone that hooks a camera up to it snapping pictures of friends with out them knowing you are there. :-)
That's cool, that would be funny to use this to create automatic trading routes between different player bases in multiplayer, different villages for example in the TekTopia mod.
I can imagine a pro builder and redstoner makeing a network of waypoints and drones that look like it belongs in a si-fi movie
