LYZRC L900 Good Beginners Brushless GPS Drone Flight Test Review

  • This folding drone does not require registration in most countries. Its accurate GPS system should help make it a good safe drone for beginner pilots. Find it here bit.ly/L900-Drone
    Pros
    - Folding drone with carrying case options for portability. Available in black, gray, and orange models.
    - Weighs less than 250 grams, and does not require registration in most countries.
    - Accurate and dependable GPS system for safe flying by new pilots. Drone will automatically return to home and land on command, loss of signal, and low voltage.
    - Optical flow system can provide stable hover for indoor flying.
    - Brushless motors for improved durability as compared to brushed motors.
    - 7.4V 2200mah battery can provide up to 28 minutes of flight per charge (I got approximately 13 minutes on a cold day).
    - FPV video capability. Real time video from the drone can be viewed and recorded (1080p @25fps) on your phone via WiFi and the "HFun Pro" or "HFun Fly" apps (I used HFun Fly as HFun Pro would not record video with my phone).
    - Advanced flight control modes available through the app include follow me, orbit position, and waypoints. All worked as advertised when using the HFun Fly app.
    - Controller's LCD screen provides telemetry information including signal strength, GPS status, drone and controller battery power, drone height and distance.
    Cons
    - The app requires use of a phone with 802.11ac WiFi. Before purchasing, use Google to verify that your phone does indeed have 802.11ac WiFi (not everybody has such on their phone).
    - There's always room for video J-E-L-L-O, and plenty of it. Keep in mind that this is a beginner's drone, and its camera is not going to be good at this price range.
    - No SD card recording capability. Video and photos are recorded directly to your phone over WiFi, with inherent WiFi limitations. In this case, video recordings would stop and restart when the WiFi signal was weak.
    - Advertised with 4K capability. In reality, videos are recorded to your phone in 1080p resolution only. Video frame grab photos are interpolated (electronically enlarged) from 1080p by the app to be recorded on your phone at 4K resolution (or 6K if using the HFun Fly app). But these photos have no improved image quality over the original 1080p still photos, and are advertised as 4K (or 6K) only as a marketing ploy.

Did you have stabilization on in the app? Better turn it off. I've seen this drone without the jello.

And I've seen that video too. Take a closer look, as that video had been edited for stabilization. Notice the blurred look in the main portion, and the jerky movements near the outer edge of the frame in the other video.

@@Quadcopter101 I think this L900 is much the same on the inside as my L108(SG108). But the L108 is very well made. I feels premium. The camera is not that good either. Quite blurry. But no jello. And that perhaps is the difference. You can have the best camera you want, but if the drone is a bit flexible the video will suffer.
Still, I like this L900 actually. It works! As does my L018. At first I thought it was a waste money. Poor video, short range. But I started to like it. A nice small drone to fly around a bit. It's not always about shooting video.

@@Quadcopter101 I guess you're right. Hopefully there will be pro version with a gimbal or EIS. I think the L900 and L108/SG108 derserve it.

What's the best cheapish gyro receiver ESC transponder combo for a 2S - 3S drone ??? I've got 4 sunny sky drone motors like the size that comes on the AeroScout S 1.1m pusher prop plane. I've never built a drone but I've had several cheapos so I do have a bit of experience flying. I have a little E017. I want to build a decently fast drone though. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Each on the day was programmed to return to take off zone each had about five minutes flying then left sat at about 100feet in wind of about ten mile per hour. Both only to suddenly take off down wind. On hitting return to home they just kept going never to be seen again. Now afraid to buy a third one ????

Hey guys I’m Max and I’m here in the land down under
Melbourne Australia I watch the QC101 drone test / review videos first every time I’m looking at a new drone or
To compare different drones to each other and find the quality of the reviews far better than most group chats
I find you cover the A to Z of the drone great job 👍🏼
I personally purchased 2x LYZRC L900 drones orange and black I got them for a steal each with 2x batteries
And get an average minimum of 50 minutes total with both batteries or using all 4 batteries 1 hour 40 min
Anyways to cut a long story short very reliable smooth flying and extremely accurate the gps has never failed with either drone
Features all work as they should just a solid little drone range is surprising the drone returns home when it hit around 1450 meters
I think that’s around 4750 feet the L900 is without a doubt my favorite entry level brushless gps drone
After paying $95 AUD on sale for both I would highly recommend this drone for beginners or even just for fun
Hope that helps anyone looking for a great starter drone .

In the description on banggood it says transmitter will run for 3.5 hrs on a full charge. Then the range states 2000 meters. So if its gps AND can do of all that, comes with 2 batteries plus fly for 28 min, HELL YEAH this drone is worth it for $100! Only issue I see is the shaking of the video but without a gimbal that's to be expected especially in winds. Not sure what others expect for $100 but hey I might pick one of these up and I'm by no means a beginner.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel Před 3 lety

I've seen the L900 for a lot cheaper with foam box and 1 battery.
I think the SG108 is better. Video poor quality too but jello. It's very well made plastic. At first I thought it was wasted money. But I started to like it. Put it in your pocket to fly it around a bit. I wish there was one with EIS.
Then there is the LU1. More expensive. But video look OK. Longer range.
Next year people in Europe will need a license fro drones over 250 gram. So I expect Mini copies with gimbal soon.

Hi, I'm sorry for the stupid question, but how do you land the drone? I tried using the top left button but it doesn't look so well without good gps signal. All the other attempts of landing (like decreasing the throttle) didn't work out so well and most of the times the drone ended up in complicated situations. It's our first drone and the manual is not very good for beginners. Thanks.

    • @Quadcopter101

The top left button is GPS return to home landing, and should only be used with good GPS reception. This does not have automatic takeoff or landing button. You will need to land it manually by lowering the throttle, and holding the throttle down until the motor stops. As such, select an open and flat takeoff landing location without obstacles.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  Před 7 měsíci +1

Performance can vary greatly between phone models. If possible, see if you can borrow a different model phone to see if the close in freezing still occurs. Also notice the thin white WiFi antenna protruding near the optical flow sensor. Try bending that downward 45 degrees to see if that may help also.
By the way, if a different model phone works, you may be running too many apps in your background. Recommend doing a virus scan, and manually closing/uninstalling any unneeded apps that may be running without your knowledge.

Yes, you need to calibrate the compass as shown in the video. Also, make sure that you are outdoors in an open area. Being indoors, or near tall buildings or trees can block satellites signals to the GPS antenna.

Hey! Can't tell why my drone, when controlling one remote control or one smartphone, after 5-10 minutes of flight does not obey and flies chaotically in different directions and after a few seconds sits down, you can say it just crashes into the ground about 50-100 meters from me? Thank you?

@@Quadcopter101 That's right, everything is just like yours. Today I flew, but controlled and calibrated only with the remote control. Again he fell from the full swing of about 30-40 meters from me and did not obey at all. Maybe this is a hitch? What did one remote control? I didn't think about it. It always turned out that it would rise above 50 meters or move away, which is not visible and all the return does not work. I tried the same story with one smartphone. I just thought you could control either a remote control or a smartphone. Didn't you manage separately?

I realize this is an old video, but these L900s are still available and I just bought one. One huge difference is they've done some sort of firmware update and now require a totally different flight app -- RX DRONE. Seems to be working okay for me but be aware all app features of this video are no longer applicable. I've been looking but haven't yet found a good review video of the current version L900 with RX DRONE. So I don't know what fancy gimmicks the app might provide, but don't typically use the various extra bells and whistles.

Love the orange color. I always want a orange one but their like 1,500 or more. They do charge more for orange! Thinking about picking up the 3 battery package so I have more drones to trip over. : } Do not expect to buy more battery's for this, that will be a DYI for you in two years or less. I am impressed with its performance compared to my lower end GPS hubsan drones. I suggest searching for a old SOLO 3DR drone that's new or refurbished but that's $200 more and you will need to buy a camera. Hubsan has the sd card slot on most of them. The video is poor to fair, that maybe a disappointment. I do want a orange drone, Hum.... Yes or No? PS:

Hey sir. Thanks for this video. I am really interested in purchasing this drone. However, you mentioned that one need to have a cellphone with 802.11ac capabilities. I have a Samsung J5 Prime that came out around September 2016. But the specs says that it has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n( Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot). So I really am not sure if my phone will be able to work with this drone? I don't want to buy the drone then have to upgrade my phone as well. Also can one fly the drone with only the remote only without a cellphone?
Also another question. Does one have to every time calibrate the drone upon a fresh start-up? Or between changing batteries?
I hope you will answer me. Thanks in advance.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  Před 3 lety +1

Unfortunately your phone will not work with most WiFi drones these days. And you should redo the compass calibration each time that you fly in a new area, or notice instability of the drone in hover. I like to do it every time I change the battery to be safe.

Turn on the drone and place it on a flat level surface. After 30 seconds, turn on your phone, and go into its WiFi settings. Look for the drone's WiFi signal in your phone's WiFi settings. Connect to this signal with your phone, the same way that you would connect to your home WiFi (no password required). Then open the drone's app. The video should now be available in the app.

Use Google Maps. Find your takeoff location on Google Maps satellite view. Then draw a 200 meter line in the general direction that you last saw it. Note that position on the map, and go out and physically search that area. I've found many a lost drone using this method.

Hello sir , this review is where first heart of the L900 pro. I bought 2 of them . The first one arrived with the app manual that you have in the video. And I also use the h fun fly app although it doesn't connect on my phone so I use my roommates phone. Even though I do have the right wifi configuration. I will be getting a new phone this week either way. The second one arrived today and some things are different with this one. The controller is thicker and the fold out handles only open to 90 degrees of the controller. Also the app manual says to download drone rx . Do you know any thing about the different app. Actually I really like the way the drone RX app works with the drone better than h fun fly. It work also but not as good in my opinion. The controller is no big deal it works great and so do both drones. I have pushed the distance out to 1,100 meters and it returned flawlessly and super fast. The first time I couldn't see it come back and I thought ."oh no another fly away" lol but I thought I could hear it. I happened to look straight up and it was just beginning to descend. I got gray so it was harder to see. With the color and speed combination. Anyway if you have any idea why they recommend 2 different apps please let me know. Also I only got one battery. I ordered 2 spare batteries on eBay and got the 2 batteries for $15.99 plus tax with free shipping. I wanted to pass that along to others who only got one battery. One is not enough for sure. And I have never gotten 28 minutes but I usually fly at full speed. Which gives me about 16 minutes. Not bad at full speed and lots of manuevering. Thank you

Did you calibrate the drone's compass as shown in the video? Also, make sure that the GPS is not turned off (also as discussed in the video). Finally, I recommend that you do not take off until you are receiving at least 9 satellites for GPS positioning to work. I usually wait until 11 satellites are being received for best position stabilization (in the video I was receiving 16)..
